And guess what...those same waterfowl that had overly large livers thousands of years ago still do. naturally, in the early winter. and this dish...meh.

"...enjoying the savory delicacies of humanity ..." sounds strange to me, as if you (ab)use the 2 girls for your needs.
I think you know that I don't worship animals. I think, that animals have souls and feel pain and fear like we do. I don't want them to suffer for me.
It seems to me that YOU worship the TASTE of animals.

KILL YOURSELF BITCH!
it's delicious but it's so cruel the way it's prepared. I saw it being done and afterwards one of the ducks was doing this horrid cough-sneeze thing and blood was dripping out.
@impamiizgraa so you have seen every foie gras farm ever? Yeah the ones that service a lot of the highest end restaurants are not cruel at all, some of them aren't even force fed since Ducks/geese naturally fatten their liver up before/during the winter months. i would be willing to bet that the foie gras in this video was humanely raised as that is a well known high end restaurant. Humanely raised foie gras tastes better. period. cheap crap is what you saw like chicken/beef from the supermarket
@tantibogusboy - although i too watched the dan barber video i would argue that you are incorrect. most of the major foie gras producing comapnies still practice some form of gavage when attempting to produce foie gras. it is less than 10% of the foie gras production that is actually "humane" and less than 1% can claim to not use gavage feeding at all and also have completely free range birds. I was inspired by that video a great deal but we still as culinarians cannot overlook how we get it.
@marksoutof10 Don't let your ignorance make you look stupid, I understand that animal rights activist have put it in everyone's heads that the process of producing foie gras is cruel but when It's done properly it's NOT. Just like any animal farm, it CAN be cruel if you choose to do it that way but I can assure you that I have seen many happy ducks and geese on foie gras farms.
@ooJDMoo Ignorance? I'm fully informed, thankyou. There is no such thing as cruelty-free foie gras. That's the same as saying you can make an omelette without cracking eggs. I've been researching the subject of food and where it comes from for fifteen years, and not once have I ever heard of foie gras production that doesn't involve torture.
@natija08 perhaps you are ignorant and you have seen a very one-sided situation, I'm tired of you pussies always thinking you are right without looking at all of the facts, foie gras is delicious and there is nothing wrong with when it is done properly, the ducks and geese are not harmed at all, go stick your dick in a tree you little fag.
The facts are that more than 90% of foie gras is "produced" by force-feeding ducks and geese.
I think you don't want to see that, because your tongue reigns your brain.
Foie gras is produced with unbearable pain and fear. You eat it and it makes you so aggressive that you insult people who criticize the product you love.
@natija08 they force feed them buy putting a round-edged tube in the throat (they have incredibly thick lining in the throat, they swallow fish and shit whole for christ sake) the process is quick and painless, their windpipes begin at the hole in there tongue so they can still breath (not to mention it takes about five seconds). If the ducks and geese were unhappy, stressed, or unhealthy it would make some terrible foie gras. Any animal product can be a cruel process when done improperly.
@natija08 OMG SOOOOOOO IGNORANT LOL! Hey do you know how Foie Gras was discovered? And at the same time have you ever eaten supermarket chickens? if you have then stfu cause they are treated a lot worse than foie gras animals. Stop judging foie gras only by the lowest of low standard farms because LIKE EVERY OTHER TYPE OF AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY SOME FARMS ARE WORSE THAN OTHERS DUMBASS! BTW foie gras is a naturally occurring thing that ducks and geese do to themselves every year not a disease -_-
Did you ever see the force-feeding of ducks or geese?
It's terribly to see that. The animals are suffering a lot and it's forbidden in many countries of the world. Of course not in France, Spain and the USA - countries which are known to have a long tradition of cruelty to animals.
To insult someone with another opinion shows the world that your arguments aren't good enough.
Did you ever see how they force-feed ducks and geese?
I watched some videos about it and I can tell you it's hard to watch the cruelty they do to the animals. Everybody can see how the birds suffer during the process and the rest of the time they "live". They want to escape, but of course they can't.
In many countries it's forbidden to force-feed animals. If you were right it would be allowed everywhere.
By eating foie gras you support terrible cruelty to animals.
@natija08 YUP, they stick the duck or goose under a machine that pipes the food in. Takes 2-3 seconds. It is a certain technique that is regulated in France and is specifically done a certain way. In other countries, they just feed the animal a VERY rich diet. Tastes wonderful if prepared well.
@natija08 Justification of for you to decide for yourself and your use. You may not like hunting, so you should not do it. If you do not like duck liver, do not eat it. But DO NOT impart your belief or ethics on others. Peace and I hope you liver a long healthy life.
I watched the video you asked me to and I noticed, that the video doesn't show that the ducks are resisting the force-feeding; it claims that the ducks are happy, but that's wrong. The video is full of lies about force-feeding ducks and geese.
I watched a lot of videos about force-feeding ducks and geese. You could clearly see, how cruel it was to the animals.
@natija08 I guess that you consider obesity a disease then to so wtf, it's not a disease. learn wtf a disease is before you start spouting ignorant crap because it's clear you are just jumping on a tunnel visioned band wagon group without doing any research on foie gras. how about you stop complaining about ALL of foie gras and start advocating humane farming FOR EVERYTHING including foie gras which is done and i would be willing to bet that the foie gras in this video was humanely raised
If you want to go onto a long journey you have to do the first step. This step can be to forbid the force-feeding of animals because force-feeding is one of the most cruel ways to treat an animal (perhaps except of animal testing which is often worse for the animals).
Agreed - this looks so sterile and artificial. Chef these days get so obsessed with what it looks like that they forget that the dish is foie gras, not a bunch of crappy garnishes.
Alot of people need to get over themselves & realize that animals were place here by God for us 2 enjoy. If you don't like food, then kick rocks & watch something else nobody wants to hear sniveeling over Daffy & his crew.. Foie Gras is off the chain this Terrine was decent in a post modern way..
I cant believe anyone would want to eat diseased fatty liver and support this horrible practice!!! These poor animals suffer unspeakable cruelty to these pompous chefs and idiots diners can have this diseased fatty liver! Sickening!!!
Such cruelty in the name of 'taste' Foie gras has been taken off the menu of a local restaurant due to public demand. People are beginning to wake up to this abhorrent farming method.
Foie gras is now being made without the use of gavage feeding or cages in many major companies. The land in which the ducks or geese are grazing on, is studded with specific natural plants that alter the taste of the liver. since the bird is happier with its surroundings, it will eat naturally and the foie gras will be "harvested" close to the winter when the liver is at its biggest. Watch Dan Barber's speech on foie gras here on you tube for more information.
The ducks or geese are treated as if they are machines, but they aren't. They suffer a terrible life. No animal should suffer like they are forced to.
FOIE GRAS SHOULD BE FORBIDDEN AT ONCE!
If you don't believe what i said, I can send you a video!
Just because Quebec treat their duck/geese inhumanely, does not mean every other producer does so. The treatment of duck/geese in Spain for example are treated very humanely.
Fois gras CAN ONLY be "produced" if ducks or geese are force fed.
Do you know, what this means? It means that they are force fed two times a day. The liver of those poor animals grows more that 10 times the size it normally has. That's really cruel. I will send you a video about that.
It's really disgusting to force fed an animal. The animals are suffering the whole time.
@barkbad How do you get a liver out of a duck or goose without exploiting or killing him/her? You really believe that harming someone for your personal enjoyment, regardless of how painless their murder is, is "humane"?
@VeganButterfly Only if it involves another human. So it's not realy 'humane' if the target is not human. And fuck ya' bunch of hippies foie gras is damn good.
@UsurperDunamis Yeah only to a speciesist. Just like a racist only applies moral treatment to their own race. Our species is not the only species who consist of sentient individuals with personalities and interests of their own.
"Human supremacy" is an illusion just like "white supremacy" or "male supremacy". Sentient beings are not property, slaves, or resources. Go vegan.
@VeganButterfly Stop trying to impose your beliefs onto others by calling us names and crying about the personalities and emotions of animals. You have no idea what an animal is thinking and you're simply superimposing human characteristics onto animals based upon what you want to believe and what you want to see in them. There is a good reason for why the majority of society is not vegan, it doesn't make sense and it's not very healthy. Go vegan? No thanks. Go balanced diet.
@itwillbealright Stop trying to impose your speciesist beliefs onto others by exploiting and killing them for your enjoyment.
How is a vegan diet not balanced? All essential nutrients are available in it. Even the American Dietetic Association, heck even the USDA, supports veganism as a balanced diet.
@VeganButterfly When did I personally impose my beliefs onto others? I simply told you not to do that and also why your logic is flawed. You're basing your beliefs of what animals feel on human emotions and characteristics. They are not humans, they are animals. A shark will not protect your right to survive if it means he gets to fill his stomach for a day or two. I support humane forms of farming and breeding but I don't support imposing one's beliefs onto others. Be a vegan and move on.
@itwillbealright I told you. When you pay people to enslave and kill others for your personal enjoyment. You force your views of non-humans as inferior and property of humans when you hurt them for your unnecessary reasons (like food or clothing).
@itwillbealright No I'm not basing my beliefs on human characteristics. Did I say ducks want to be free so they can go to college? Did I say geese don't want to be force fed because they don't want to feel fat and ugly? Did I say pigs don't want to be in pens because they'd rather go to the mall?
@itwillbealright 1) There is no such thing as "humane" slavery. Non-humans are not our property - period.
2) You ARE imposing your beliefs on your victims when you HURT and KILL them. I am writing harmless words to you. I haven't even touched a hair on your head, and you're pointing a finger at me when you pay people to PHYSICALLY HARM others?
@VeganButterfly So my emotions and feelings don't matter when you say these "harmless" words but the supposed emotions and feelings of animals with which you cannot communicate do? Also, what do you mean slavery? How is letting cows roam around in fields "slavery?" You also didn't address my point. Would a tiger, lion, or shark protect you and your "rights" over filling their own stomach for two days? Absolutely not. I'm not imposing my beliefs onto you so don't impose your beliefs onto me.
@itwillbealright When you are harming others, no it doesn't matter how you feel about being told you shouldn't harm others. Should we refrain from telling child abusers that they shouldn't beat children in fears that we'll "hurt" the feelings of the child abusers? Of course not!
You are harming others when you eat them.
What do I mean by slavery? Oh my, not another one! You mean you can't tell that non-humans are treated as property of humans?
@itwillbealright Take a look around you! Non-humans are being owned, confined, traded, bought, sold, bred, exploited and killed for humans. This is happening EVERYWHERE. Foie gras comes from birds who were exploited. Beef comes from cows who were owned on farms. How do you not know this?
@itwillbealright As long as you are imposing your human supremacist beliefs on non-humans by KILLING them, I will speak out against such a horrible thing.
@VeganButterfly What do you mean I'm imposing my human supremacist beliefs? I guess sharks, lions, tigers, bears (oh my) are expressing their species supremacist beliefs onto me right? Also, you keep contradicting yourself. You say I'm being a "human supremacist" then you use human infants to try and defend your conclusion that we shouldn't be human supremacists. Pick a logical perspective and stick to it. As long as your argument is about anger and hatred, I'm going to eat my meat.
@itwillbealright Lol, yeah you completely mixed up everything I said and aren't even coming close to comprehending it. I don't even know where to begin "dumbing it down". I'll just move along to the next non-vegan, and hopefully when there is less speciesism in the world and more respect for the rights of others, you will behind to see past your prejudice and indifference & join the rest of us in promoting a civilized society where we treat others the way we would want to be treated. Take care.
@VeganButterfly Wow, you expect to have a civilized discourse with that kind of pessimistic dualistic attitude? The reason my responses seem "dumb" to you is because I'm pointing out all of the contradictory fallacies in your arguments. My responses are mirroring the illogical aspects of your arguments. Learn about intelligence, logic, and common sense before you try to discuss something with a medical student specializing in neurology. If your arguments made sense I would be inclined to agree.
@VeganButterfly Also, according to your line of logic, we shouldn't kill human infants because they have emotions and personality showing higher levels of intelligence (including "knowing better"). You project those human traits onto animals and say that we shouldn't consume pigs, cows, lions, tigers, and other animals because they also have emotions, feelings, and personalities. However, since they all exhibit higher order intelligence shouldn't they "know better" than to eat us? Paradoxical.
@VeganButterfly That's exactly what you said but you're too stubborn and narrow-minded to see the inconsistencies and contradictions in your own argument. Your only goal is to try and force people to think that you're correct no matter how illogical your argument may be. Instead of understanding perspectives you just open your mouth. I hope you open your ears more and your mouth less. Respond and complain if it helps you feel better about your life. Either way I won't read it.
Actually ducks/geese are gluttonous animals. they don't mind gavage. When raising ducks for the purpose of foie gras you have to monitor their eating habits because they will gorge everything they find.
Actually I've seen first-hand the technique at Hudson Valley Foie Gras and I believe it's wrong to force feed. That is why I buy foie gras from the french producer Rougie Foie Gras. I also know Benoit Cuchet, the president of the company, so I get lots of free samples of the best =). I believe that the more you let an animal live its life humanely the better the product.
too many damn powerful ingredients. the point is to let the foie gras shine and enhance the flavors, not mask it with a bunch of overpowering ingredients. and, it's not a terrine

I cannot believe that you really think, that the process of force-feeding a duck or a goose is PAINLESS.
Geese are birds who don't swallow fish. They eat grass and other plants.
Ducks eat plants, small crayfish and insects. Only a small group of ducks swallow fish. Perhaps you mixed it up with cormorants?
Foie gras is a fatty liver. It's a deadly disease and many ducks die before they are slaughtered.

I was a vegetarian for more than twenty years and for nearly two years I eat only plants and their products.
The chicken and all the other animals in "modern" farms are treated very bad! You are right in this point.
But it cannot be the reason to treat ducks and geese worth!

@natija08 Justification of for you to decide for yourself and your use. You may not like hunting, so you should not do it. If you do not like duck liver, do not eat it. But DO NOT impart your belief or ethics on others. Peace and I hope you liver a long healthy life.

@cliffcox66
You could clearly see, how cruel it was to the animals.
natija08 6 months ago
@natija08 I guess that you consider obesity a disease then to so wtf, it's not a disease. learn wtf a disease is before you start spouting ignorant crap because it's clear you are just jumping on a tunnel visioned band wagon group without doing any research on foie gras. how about you stop complaining about ALL of foie gras and start advocating humane farming FOR EVERYTHING including foie gras which is done and i would be willing to bet that the foie gras in this video was humanely raised
ShatterEffectt 10 months ago
@ShatterEffectt
As a vegan I'm against every animal abuse.
If you want to go onto a long journey you have to do the first step. This step can be to forbid the force-feeding of animals because force-feeding is one of the most cruel ways to treat an animal (perhaps except of animal testing which is often worse for the animals).
natija08 10 months ago
@ShatterEffectt - 2
You bet that the foie gras in this video was humanely raised - and I bet it wasn't.

love the dish but the plate looked way to sophisticated. Not my cup of tea. To sterile is the word I am looking for.

Agreed - this looks so sterile and artificial. Chef these days get so obsessed with what it looks like that they forget that the dish is foie gras, not a bunch of crappy garnishes.

A delicious delicacy at that!
moneymikey 1 year ago 6
Foie gras is now being made without the use of gavage feeding or cages in many major companies. The land in which the ducks or geese are grazing on, is studded with specific natural plants that alter the taste of the liver. since the bird is happier with its surroundings, it will eat naturally and the foie gras will be "harvested" close to the winter when the liver is at its biggest. Watch Dan Barber's speech on foie gras here on you tube for more information.

Foie gras is cruelty to animals.
It's disgusting to eat such things!
The ducks or geese are treated as if they are machines, but they aren't. They suffer a terrible life. No animal should suffer like they are forced to.
FOIE GRAS SHOULD BE FORBIDDEN AT ONCE!
If you don't believe what i said, I can send you a video!
natija08 2 years ago
i know! thanks
akuhiroshi 2 years ago
Just because Quebec treat their duck/geese inhumanely, does not mean every other producer does so. The treatment of duck/geese in Spain for example are treated very humanely.
barkbad 1 year ago 2
Can you proof your opinion, barkbad?
Fois gras CAN ONLY be "produced" if ducks or geese are force fed.
Do you know, what this means? It means that they are force fed two times a day. The liver of those poor animals grows more that 10 times the size it normally has. That's really cruel. I will send you a video about that.
It's really disgusting to force fed an animal. The animals are suffering the whole time.
natija08 1 year ago
@barkbad How do you get a liver out of a duck or goose without exploiting or killing him/her? You really believe that harming someone for your personal enjoyment, regardless of how painless their murder is, is "humane"?
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly Only if it involves another human. So it's not realy 'humane' if the target is not human. And fuck ya' bunch of hippies foie gras is damn good.
UsurperDunamis 1 year ago
@UsurperDunamis Yeah only to a speciesist. Just like a racist only applies moral treatment to their own race. Our species is not the only species who consist of sentient individuals with personalities and interests of their own.
"Human supremacy" is an illusion just like "white supremacy" or "male supremacy". Sentient beings are not property, slaves, or resources. Go vegan.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly Stop trying to impose your beliefs onto others by calling us names and crying about the personalities and emotions of animals. You have no idea what an animal is thinking and you're simply superimposing human characteristics onto animals based upon what you want to believe and what you want to see in them. There is a good reason for why the majority of society is not vegan, it doesn't make sense and it's not very healthy. Go vegan? No thanks. Go balanced diet.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@itwillbealright Stop trying to impose your speciesist beliefs onto others by exploiting and killing them for your enjoyment.
How is a vegan diet not balanced? All essential nutrients are available in it. Even the American Dietetic Association, heck even the USDA, supports veganism as a balanced diet.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly When did I personally impose my beliefs onto others? I simply told you not to do that and also why your logic is flawed. You're basing your beliefs of what animals feel on human emotions and characteristics. They are not humans, they are animals. A shark will not protect your right to survive if it means he gets to fill his stomach for a day or two. I support humane forms of farming and breeding but I don't support imposing one's beliefs onto others. Be a vegan and move on.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@itwillbealright I told you. When you pay people to enslave and kill others for your personal enjoyment. You force your views of non-humans as inferior and property of humans when you hurt them for your unnecessary reasons (like food or clothing).
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@itwillbealright No I'm not basing my beliefs on human characteristics. Did I say ducks want to be free so they can go to college? Did I say geese don't want to be force fed because they don't want to feel fat and ugly? Did I say pigs don't want to be in pens because they'd rather go to the mall?
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@itwillbealright 1) There is no such thing as "humane" slavery. Non-humans are not our property - period.
2) You ARE imposing your beliefs on your victims when you HURT and KILL them. I am writing harmless words to you. I haven't even touched a hair on your head, and you're pointing a finger at me when you pay people to PHYSICALLY HARM others?
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly So my emotions and feelings don't matter when you say these "harmless" words but the supposed emotions and feelings of animals with which you cannot communicate do? Also, what do you mean slavery? How is letting cows roam around in fields "slavery?" You also didn't address my point. Would a tiger, lion, or shark protect you and your "rights" over filling their own stomach for two days? Absolutely not. I'm not imposing my beliefs onto you so don't impose your beliefs onto me.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@itwillbealright When you are harming others, no it doesn't matter how you feel about being told you shouldn't harm others. Should we refrain from telling child abusers that they shouldn't beat children in fears that we'll "hurt" the feelings of the child abusers? Of course not!
You are harming others when you eat them.
What do I mean by slavery? Oh my, not another one! You mean you can't tell that non-humans are treated as property of humans?
Man are speciesists in serious denial...
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@itwillbealright Take a look around you! Non-humans are being owned, confined, traded, bought, sold, bred, exploited and killed for humans. This is happening EVERYWHERE. Foie gras comes from birds who were exploited. Beef comes from cows who were owned on farms. How do you not know this?
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@itwillbealright
No, a shark would not protect my rights. Neither would a human infant.
So I guess it must be okay to beat human infants since small infants don't care about anyone else but themselves?
Please.
Sharks don't know any better. You do.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@itwillbealright As long as you are imposing your human supremacist beliefs on non-humans by KILLING them, I will speak out against such a horrible thing.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly What do you mean I'm imposing my human supremacist beliefs? I guess sharks, lions, tigers, bears (oh my) are expressing their species supremacist beliefs onto me right? Also, you keep contradicting yourself. You say I'm being a "human supremacist" then you use human infants to try and defend your conclusion that we shouldn't be human supremacists. Pick a logical perspective and stick to it. As long as your argument is about anger and hatred, I'm going to eat my meat.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@itwillbealright Lol, yeah you completely mixed up everything I said and aren't even coming close to comprehending it. I don't even know where to begin "dumbing it down". I'll just move along to the next non-vegan, and hopefully when there is less speciesism in the world and more respect for the rights of others, you will behind to see past your prejudice and indifference & join the rest of us in promoting a civilized society where we treat others the way we would want to be treated. Take care.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly Wow, you expect to have a civilized discourse with that kind of pessimistic dualistic attitude? The reason my responses seem "dumb" to you is because I'm pointing out all of the contradictory fallacies in your arguments. My responses are mirroring the illogical aspects of your arguments. Learn about intelligence, logic, and common sense before you try to discuss something with a medical student specializing in neurology. If your arguments made sense I would be inclined to agree.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly Also, according to your line of logic, we shouldn't kill human infants because they have emotions and personality showing higher levels of intelligence (including "knowing better"). You project those human traits onto animals and say that we shouldn't consume pigs, cows, lions, tigers, and other animals because they also have emotions, feelings, and personalities. However, since they all exhibit higher order intelligence shouldn't they "know better" than to eat us? Paradoxical.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
@itwillbealright What? That's not even what I said at all.
Wow.
Have a nice life.
VeganButterfly 1 year ago
@VeganButterfly That's exactly what you said but you're too stubborn and narrow-minded to see the inconsistencies and contradictions in your own argument. Your only goal is to try and force people to think that you're correct no matter how illogical your argument may be. Instead of understanding perspectives you just open your mouth. I hope you open your ears more and your mouth less. Respond and complain if it helps you feel better about your life. Either way I won't read it.
itwillbealright 1 year ago
Actually ducks/geese are gluttonous animals. they don't mind gavage. When raising ducks for the purpose of foie gras you have to monitor their eating habits because they will gorge everything they find.
chefmarcgirard 1 year ago 2
I think, you really know nothing about the cruelty they do to ducks and geese by force feeding them.
I'll send you a video about this cruelty to animals. If you have eyes to see, you will see what happens to them.
natija08 1 year ago
Actually I've seen first-hand the technique at Hudson Valley Foie Gras and I believe it's wrong to force feed. That is why I buy foie gras from the french producer Rougie Foie Gras. I also know Benoit Cuchet, the president of the company, so I get lots of free samples of the best =). I believe that the more you let an animal live its life humanely the better the product.
