It doesn't really matter it depends on the player, like you bought a PS3 for the gaming or the Blu-ray player built in, if you bought it for the Blu-ray player then that's really the only reason why you would need an HDTV. People buy the console for their own reasons, nobody NEEDS a HDTV, it's nice and all, but a Standard TV is perfectly fine.

Firstly it does not look like a ps2 game! all the detail and graphics are still there it just cant all be seen clearly on a SD resolution. i will say this though, with most games you'll get two black bars at the top and bottom (widescreen o vision) and text will be pretty small depending on the size of your SD tv. (yeah i still have SD)

These group of moron don't know crap.. If you play SD game on a HDTV monitor, it will look like crap. If you play SD game on a regular SDTV it will look great. HDTV is made to output HD content not SD. If SD content is output on a HDTV. The HDTV scretch the SD to fit the HDTV screen. I have both a HD and a SD TV I did the comparison between the two in SD mode and the SD looks better on a SDTV than on an HDTV.

Hey, to get things straight:

HDD - stands for Hard Disk Drive. You find these in Computers and such.

HD - stands for High Definition. This means more pixels on the screen, which means more detail.

It won't matter if you don't have or have a 1080p (1920x1080) hdtv, most PS3 and 360 games don't even go up to native 1080p. Todays current generation of consoles just doesn't have the hardware to go up that high yet. Let alone extreme resolutions like 1600p (2560x1600). People need to keep in mind that the VAST majority of the 360 and PS3 games are 720p (1280x720) then they are upscaled to 1080p.

fortunately, ive never used my ps3 on an sdtv (i got them at the same time), but i can understand why it sucks at sd. its just not built to look ok at standard. the fact that sony dont give you an hdmi cable, or even a component cable, is testament to their cheapness.

The real problem with an sdtv is that the games are squished into the narrower square of the sdtv. The cars from GT5 prologue looked narrow and squished also I couldn't see a damn thing all the dark shaded areas were TOO dark and so I couldn't see a damn thing. Same with SVR the wrestling wwe game the characters were squished and thin looking untill I got my HDTV. my sharp aquos 1080p is nice I'm using it right now on my PS3 browser

I have played all my games on both tv's and either one the games look brilliant. i mean obviously on the hd it looks better...but thats why it's an HD tv. Other then the screen being crisper i can tell no difference in either. Resistance 2. Littlebigplanet. Soul calibur 4. Unreal tournament 3. or resistance FOM. the only game i see a difference in is Elder scrolls oblivion.

32 inches isn't even big enough to fully utilize 1080p and a 16:9 aspect ratio. I guarantee you that you wouldn't notice a difference between 1080p 32 inch TV and a 720p 32 inch. You may as well save a couple hundred bucks and buy a 32 inch 1080i.

Not to mention most games are produced in 720p native resolution anyway.

The difference is in the text. You can read allthe text with ease on the hdtv but on a sd one it's pretty hard to read the little one. I had a very crappy sd one. Now i have a 26' Bravia and it's awesome.
