That blue laser is not a laser but a really small light bulb used to illuminate the S meter.It is called a "grain of wheat" bulb. I think what is happening is my digital camera is doing some filtering of the light and it appears as a blue laser light.
I have to give you thumbs up on that website too. I'm scouting out projects to build my own too but much more basic to get my feet wet but non-kit!! Or perhaps a system of various kits but my goal is to have a solid understanding of receiver types and theory.
