  • Technically the French killed the Bears, the British Guards stole them as a Momento at Waterloo from the French Imperial Guard. Oh and modern ones are not bear skin, faux fur is now available.

  • @mwnciboo The modern ones are still made from Canadian bears. They keep trying out different faux fur but it never holds up properly.

  • @mwnciboo When you take on wearing the bearskin as a battle trophy, having broken the allegedly indestructable Imperial Guard, it's not really stealing is it?

  • bloody good drum major, of the band a good state walk!!!!!

  • @0404alan

The name of the 2nd piece of music is Arnhem?

    Is that correct?

  • @10278081 yes

  • ....

this is a nice camera for 2006.

    js

  • What is that 2nd piece of music?

    It is perfect for marching.

    Someone help!

  • @10278081 Answer to your question. Arnhem.

  • Brits. In a class all by themselves!

what is that 2nd piece of music?

    Perfect for marching.

    Go Brits.

  • they use Canadian bears????

  • @Danno0618 LOL

  • cough marines kick ass

  • @THECLOSETWRITER these aren't marines?

  • @Duskworker hahaha in a better world the would be or wish they were

  • @THECLOSETWRITER I take it you think that Marines are superior to these men, and you have to express this here. Why don't you post your marine love on some marine video, instead of trying to bring down these men? I am sure any marine would respect what they do, so you should also.

  • @Duskworker oh dont get your panties in a snit. I like what I like and you like what you like, anything else... Idgaf

  • @THECLOSETWRITER My panties aren't in a snit. Yes, as you said, you like what you like, and I like what I like, so there is no reason for you to bring hatred to a video of men who risk their lives just the same as marines. In the military it's called respect.

  • @Duskworker panties in a snit .youre the one trying to " be the better whatever" with your on and on posts about nothing.. you like what you like , I like what I like...I think their uniforms are lame an the band is weird....But I didnt say all that out of before because of "respect"... so while you work on your britches ..I will continue to be respectfulllllllll

  • why do they do this every time they change its like a huge parade

  • @mrzpoohbearbaby

they change to let a different guards regiment take over

so they all can get experiance of being guards

  • @mrzpoohbearbaby It is a ceromony that goes back hundreds of years and it is difficult to explain in very few words I would suggest that you Google "Changing of the Guard London" and you will be suprised as to how much goes in to this ceromony that happens every day in the Summer and every 2nd day in the Winter.

  • what's song is this?

  • @210482fmj Go get some more medication quickly as it is wearing off..Also get the nurse to tighten your straight jacket straps so you cannot use the Asylums computer !

  • @tiptonch - just read your restrained (polite even) reply to the comment thrown at Americans by too many of my countrymen. No condescension meant. These guys appear to have cradle marks on their arse, so they can't speak from experience!Perhaps their grandfathers were subjected to arrogant verbal batterings from GIs in WW1/2 - re: teeth, footwear, pay & "local women" :)) Next time I'm in London I'll wear a Friendly Native Badge & tourists can ask questions rather than sound off & wind up the oiks

  • Can anyone please tell me what is carried in those boxes on the back of the two soldiers at the rear?

  • @Insperato62 radio jammers, to stop any remote explosives.

  • We need the Guardsmen and other soldiers, bandsmen as well as they serve in the most dangerous area's as medics. So that women can sleep safely at night. The real world is hard and cruel it wants t take it all from you, even life itself. We need defending and the bears are going to die of old age anyway. Originaly they were Russian bears, the French took them to Waterloo the Guards picked them from battle ground. Ceremonial duties are only 5% max of Guards duties.

  • and there you go 2 million pounds a year to entertain the tourists

  • @ablair37 You do realise that it is NOT for the tourists but for tradition. Aha fail but nice try though.

  • @ablair37 1) Its not for tourists or entertainment 2) Those tourists bring billions of revenue to the country.

  • Wobble

  • who are the guys in the back of the band with red backpacks and hat do they do?

  • @devdog213

They are carrying radios that were put in place after the1982 IRA bombings in London that killed 11 soldiers. Although unclear, it's said that these also contain electronic countermeasures that jam radio & wireless signals in the area.

You can see that they both holding the headset at the ready in their left hand, which is why they only swing their right.

In higher-quality videos, the aerial sticking out of the backpack and the wire running down left arm to the handset is visible.

  • The radios are no longer in use today because of the reduced threat ever since the Provisional IRA officially decommissioned in 2005, roughly the same time the radios were last seen on parade.

Either that or they have found much more efficient alternatives.

  • @emptyangel the radios come back into use during state occassions.

  • @emptyangel thanks dude ive been wondering that for a long time damn google didnt help so i decided to ask real people thanks again.

  • How often does this happen?

  • @Supermassively daily. except at windsor castle, when at the moment it is not happening on sundays

  • @letmeusethisnamenow Wow, that's a lot of ceremony to do every single day.

  • @Supermassively

The weight of the duties is evenly spread between the regiments of the Foot Guards, their Corps of Drums and their Bands.

They are also supplemented by a regiment of the line (i.e. a non-guards regiment) and their usually Corps of Drums and/or Band as well.

Other guest regiments may also be invited to mount the guard on top of this. Like for instance the RAF Regiment, Army Air Corps, Royal Regiment of Artillery and so on.

  • The hats are made from real Canadian bear skins, however about 1000 bears are killed by the Canadian Government/Inuit's every year to keep the numbers in check, of this about 100 are used for the hats. So the bears will be killed regardless of whether they are used for by the Royal Guard or not.

  • lol the march at the beginning is death or glory (i think ) anyway it is a 6/8 cavelry march so they are behind the step

  • @tptman001 :: The original name of the march is "Tenth Regiment" by RB Hall (USA). Death or Glory was a subtitle, the motto of the 10th Reg.

  • Nice video... greetings for you...!!!!

  • LMAO at the question in the description box!! I agree though!! if you get answers, let me know!! ;)

  • What was the music being played called?

  • @EMPIRE01233

    What's your service number?

  • all of thhese soldiers are just taking a break from active duty-they are all real, fully trained soldiers who have served in wars including Afghanistan and Iraq. If you do nt believe it, go to the offiical royal channel's video about changing of the guard where it is explained.

  • @4FabBEATLES Even the ones in the band? Doubtful.

  • @shalcall

The bandsmen are officially musicians first & soldiers second.

Secondary to their roles as musicians, they serve as NBC decontamination personnel; previously they were ambulance drivers & stretcher bearers.

British Army bands were created as a separate entity from the Corps of Drums, whereas in the United States the American Corps of Drums evolved into military bands.

So in contrast, this is why US Forces musicians today are soldiers first, like the Corps of Drums in the UK.

  • @emptyangel In the U.S. Marine Corps, the only branch wherein I have experience, even though every Marine goes to boot camp for basic riflemen training, after those 3 months band members head off to their band school and then the actual band. They will literally never serve in a war zone (unless for some reason the band performs in a war zone). The band is so small in comparison I truly doubt you can transfer into it from the regular corps, but I could be wrong.

  • @shalcall in the UK bandsmen do go to war zones. they double as combat medics.

  • What is the second song they play that starts at like 1:23

  • @StyxyUK

The second March is Arnhem by Kelly

  • @bremsnes23

    Thanks :D

  • Comment removed

  • I think its very interesting to watch

  • Anybody know the name of the song they are playing?

  • @Twitchy07 Death or Glory March by R.B. Hall

  • The reason they have to have Guards is due to terrorism, and the real threat to the military personel... and these are some of the best soldiers in the world.... and there bands are used all over the world! Im a Royal Marine under the Queen and im proud of my fellow soldiers,

  • @kingswaylad Alright then, whats your service number

  • @BritainF0rever I do not know you and details about my services are nothing to do with you at all, its like giving you my passport and my bank pin its private! Sorry

  • @kingswaylad Im afraid then I cant beleive you. you probebly dont care but, there you go

  • @BritainF0rever go fuck off, what reason do you have to doubt him?

  • The show is spectacular and colourful as well as being an important tourist attraction for people all over the world.Well worth a visit.

  • im american and i still agree this is a good show

  • @paintballKid545 THIS IS NOT ONLY A SHOW THIS IS ENGLAND LIFE!!

  • @saluteforever quite

  • What I find funny is that the Guard hold present day weapons despite wearing ceremonial clothing XD

Napoleonic clothing with 21st century weapons :D

  • Unarmed police gaurding a small army half of witch is equiped with SA 80 rifles and a beyonet in there belt..If god forbid anything should happen it would be the guards guarding the police! LOL

  • Much better than USA's, but the Swedish is better :)

  • Swedish royal guards> brittish royal guards

    /watch?v=-YXGQJxTtWk

  • @LudwigSwede Swedish guards do look brilliantly drilled. are they, or were they originally light infantry, as they march at a vey quick pace?

  • @LudwigSwede Swedish guards do look brilliantly drilled. are they, or were they originally light infantry, as they march at a vey quick pace?

  • Swedish royal guards are the best :>

  • @Narre5 If the Swedish Guards are that good pity they are not now out in Afganistan! But like a lot of 'show' army bands the Swedish Guards are all show and and no 'action' !

  • @md0u9186 Why would we send our army band to Afghanistan? Our elite forces go there instead.

  • @Narre5 All British Forces are elite forces.

  • @md0u9186 Mhm.

  • hope the horse doesnt fart..

  • oh I'm in love with english royal guards, I have always liked them so strong powerful and so strightly disciplinate

  • The Guards DO NOT use real Bear Skins any more they are ALL FAKE.

Q1-They march with a band -yes- to keep them in step and the band entertain the spectators watching at the Palace.

Q2-its the public that get in the way all so its to marshal the public and the traffic as the police have jurisdictional authority over the public the Army dont

  • @16lydgate

No----- they now only have Real Fur they tried the fake !! i was that guy ! but we changed back to Real ( thankfully very soon after ) that was back in 84/85

  • @16lydgate

You are wrong all bearskins are real bears.

From Serving Grenadier (Commissioned Irish Guards)

  • @ 1:8 his mum made him bring a packed lunch

  • Brings back great childhood memories in Londontown

  • How often are the guards changed?

  • @Oapples

    Every Day

  • @phuckizlam I 'm happy that there the royal live in a palace

  • the guards go to the Buckingham Palace and they change the guard with the music, they are going with a march the first guard dirigites with his cane.

    This representation is very nice

  • I assume if you mess with them, they are are all carrying guns and they would all be aimed at you.

  • @autisticblog yes

  • @TheNationalarmy

    Police radio intercom.

  • Why do the Brits always say we Americans have no tradition? We have tons so that's not a a very accurate description at all. Just because they aren't 1,000 years old doesn't make them any less valid. I'm Irish so I have a lot of love for my UK brothers and sisters, and have a lot of respect for ALL soldiers in general. But let's face it, those hats do look rather silly, lighten up folks sheesh. :)

  • @LojakZeRo

Silly today, but the bearskin cap was as functional as a kevlar helmet is these days.

It's only amusing because its history is foreign to you.

  • Wonderful. I saw this and I loved it.

    Perfect.

  • Who's that twerp in front of them?

Twenty years ago it used to Queen Elizabeth and she didn't have to keep her hand on a phone in her ear or keep looking back at what was happening!

    Please bring her back. Quick.

  • @theloudhalo

What you are seeing in the video isn't Trooping the Colour. Regardless, it has been 24 years since the Queen last rode on horseback for that occasion.

  • I think that at Sandhurst, The cadets have a wall, *82 and 101st.

    Rich

  • Long Live HRH Queen Elizabeth II!

  • @Matthew331SCC Long live Queen Elizabeth who invites the Antichrist (Pope) according to Revelation 17, to the shores of our Protestant nations. Your queen is a traitor but since most the Kings were anyway, they sided with the Catholics, then, nothing changes.

  • The constable on the horse is wearing a vest. Why does the horse not have one on?

    What would Mr Ed say?

    Bobby...

  • @palonejr

Because the horse can't shoot back.

  • Those red plumes - Her Majesty`s Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards - is there a finer sight in London? Well done Chris, good effort mate.

  • @davylad49

Yeah... the finest sight is the First regiment of Foot Guards (The Grenadier Guards)

  • The Guards Divisions are supported on parades by bands this is to give Muscial support. Bands of the British Army also play a vital Role in Deployments were bands deploy members individualy where they usually will work as Medical support.Even though the Guards divisions wear the Canadian bearskins they are try to find a substitute rarther than using real bearskin. And when youput why do the guards have guards ,well If you ment the policeman it happens to be his job.

  • Pretty catchy tune!

  • "We paid for your hats!" "Two-hats, two-hats,"

  • hjk

  • Excellent video!

  • What's the name of the seccond march?

  • @ralph1230

    It's called 'Arnhem'.

  • Nobody does it better than the Brits.

    Bobby...

  • that horse is drooling.. terrible parade

  • @walkertexasranger33

The policeman and his horse aren't part of the parade.

  • Is there a shop in London where one can purchase Her Majesty's soiled panties?

  • @RatFlinger You can buy my soiled panties if you like and i'll even put a stain on the front free of charge.

  • Why do birds need trees

  • Re: Our Canadian bears. Busbies are made from synthetic fur, and have been for quite some time. Bears in our area are therefore free to roam the local garbage dump and the town at will. Only 'nuisance bears' are trapped and shipped out, into the bush, to a spot where it takes them ages to trudge all the way back home. They just hate that!

  • @jami6565

Busbies aren't made from bearskin fur, what you're thinking of are bearskin caps.

  • Also, they're still made of authentic bearskin fur, despite what you may hear from PETA or on the news.

No permanent synthetic alternative has been approved and adopted by the MoD.

  • I love that song!!! Had I known the band played, I'd have made the effort to see this when I was there,

  • Splendid military tradition.

  • Originally, drummers kept a beat for marching armies. It served two purposes, first is to help keep the army in step and second to "drum up" their courage. Over time, a drummer or two evolved into full blown military bands. I am pretty sure that the regularly scheduled performance of the marching band here is more to entertain tourists than to perform their original function which could easily be done by a single drummer.

  • @shatros

It has been tradition for regiments to maintain their own regimental bands.

Especially so for the five regiments of Foot Guards, who have had their separate bands since the formation of each of the five individual regiments.

Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace was and always has been carried out with military bands and/or a Corps of Drums as an integral part of the ceremony.

So it has never been a performance or about attracting tourists, the latter being purely incidental.

  • @emptyangel perhaps incidental and I am in favor of tradition being well kept when appropriate. I am only saying that tradition and pomp, as motivations, are now taking a back seat to tourism.

  • without the band, they couldn't march. lol

  • death or glory great march

  • May be a dumb question, but what is the function of the two troops at the rear of the bank carrying what appear to be knapsacks?

  • @hokie1964 the knapsacks contain e.c.m, electronic counter measures, blocking certain frequencies that in the past have been used to detonate explosives during terrorist attacks

  • When I was a kid I used to think that the British Guards all had coneheads and that's why they wore those elongated hats. But, I was obviously very wrong. But, I digress.

  • The first march the band plays is: "Tenth Regiment March"! :D Hugs from Sweden!

  • I would like to dedicate this to Guardsman Michael Sweeney, 19, of 1st Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. He was killed in Afghanistan at the very end of March. A sad reminder that these are real soldiers. How terrible that he will never see his home in Northumberland again.

  • What's this? an episode of the Wooden Tops?

  • Some day, when these people are marching , an Al quieda bomb will go off

  • One can only hope

  • @Musiclover7851

You oppose the killing of animals while on the other hand you encourage thoughts of killing human beings?

Why do the musicians deserve to die as well?

  • They dont need lessons off of anyone, and they've been doing this since before the birth of the US.

Their also the only militery band that can keep stock still whilst playing, a discipline that never caught on in America.

  • Clearly you have never heard of the United States Marine Corps and their Drum and Bugle corps....yeah talk about discipline Oorah Marine Corps

  • @JuanDonJose And who did the USMC learn it from? There's a reason the Guards come first in the British Army's order of precedence. They've been around twice as long as your country.

  • @Jo7welder

Besides, it's written history that John J. Pershing was the one who was inspired by the Guards bands he saw personally in the UK, and when he became the Army Chief of Staff, he modelled the American bands after them.

  • @Jo7welder That is how you know a difference between a Canadian redcoat Coldstream guard and a English one is that the Canadian one cannot keep stock still whilst playing, whereas the English can, in addition to seeing that Canadian one has more racial diversification in that they accepted Chinese and Japanese and other Asians to put on this redcoat whereas England has yet to have any that is Japanese descent.

  • @doubleestark canada is now 80% white and more than 10% asian, UK is 92% white and only about 4% asian, east asians like chinese are even less than 1% so no wonder you don't see so many of them

  • jonjon181 does not have any idea what is going on here. History and tradition. Pomp and circumstance.

hope the words aren't too big for you.

These soldiers are not a pussy display outfit, they are fighting soldiers!

  • Does anyone know if Liz and Phil still get it on?

  • This is my old Band.Still as flash and polished as ever.Good on yer lads!

  • did you work with drum major stephen ward...he was spit and polish ..the smartest drum major i ever saw...i have a few tapes of parades from the 80/s when he was senior drum major H.D ....marty

  • No, the Drum Majors I had were CSMs "Nippy" Kirk, Truscott, and the Wiggan brothers, mainly from the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. Now this is going back to the 1970s. These guys were also big time spit and polish and had a bellow on them like a Brahman bull. Along with RSM Pickles, they made a great team. Thanks for your enquiry.

  • Seeing this in person is pretty cool (as is this video) :)

  • This is false, the MoD have not found a synthetic replacement for the bearskin caps.

Several types were tested in 2005, but they failed to meet requirements.

  • I had a Canadian Mountie friend who told me that most of the black bearskin for new Guards hats generally come from bears killed by game wardens as nuisance animals or by licensed hunters who sell the skins for the purpose.

In Canada, the meat rarely goes to waste either, so there aren't loads of skinned, dead bear carcasses laying about. Plus the black bear population is in no danger of extinction.

  • No I can assure you it's still real bears, dunno about the leopard skins though

  • @matthew220891

Leopard skins are synthetic replicas now, but I'm sure there are some authentic ones hanging around in some bands.

  • @emptyangel Wouldn't know :/

  • That second tune they played is sooooo awesome!

  • Its called death or glory

  • No, the second march is Arnhem. The first is Death or Glory.

  • mrblazingduck : Also known as Tenth Regiment by R B Hall.

  • Not your country, not your Army, not your business chum.

  • Your hat looks stupid.

  • Fuck you retard, tradition is everything but you wouldn't understand being a yank, you have no traditions.

  • Now, now. Not all of us Yanks have no appreciation of traditions. I'm a Marine and we're chock full of traditions same as many Brit military units.

  • Ignorant fool, there is much history behind the bearskin caps that they wear.

But I shall bore the likes of you with this information.

  • @TkrB It's all to do with tradition, as someone else has mentioned, has been going longer than your country. Maybe you should educate yourself before making yourself look like a complete mong.

  • nice. i would like to go and see the parade live but i cant so video will do just fine... Thanks

  • Yer welcome.
