not at all-this scene is both moving and nostalgic-there is nothing wrong with portraying something with a dash of romanticism-I'm sure this scene is inspiring/touching to many viewers (in fact I have noticed that others have uploaded this very same scene to portray the beauty of the call to prayer and how it echoes in the streets and permeates every day living in a city such as this one, even today)- what is ironic(& positive) is that the director is Greek :)-thanks 4 sharing this
and i can talk by the views of ppl who STILL live there, and have lived there during that time.this is more a nostalgic way to show what other ppl have in mind when they think of istanbul. the reality looked way different then this.
I heard and read lots of time about this movie but couldn't find a chance to watch; very nice pictures... Good to sharing with us Jason. You definitely curious about Turkish culture, good. Your first ratings from me, with my best luck wishes...

I think this scene is too much like the "Arabian nights" cliche!
Istanbul in the 1950*s and 1960*s was allready westernized since several generations!

Umm...not really. The director actually lived there at that time and he put his memories in that movie.

you're right my friend.. this movie is almost turkish propaganda..

errrr.... nope
i was just saying that this scene is more...... like an arabian stereotype then the turkish reality of the 1950's , especially in Istanbul.
