Why does Morrison sound so good faking an American voice but when Adele does it it sounds forced and cheesy - even though she can sing. Maybe it's because Morrison wrote his songs and could play an instrument and sing - that's why it sounds natural.
@jasmina18 Yeah right. If Knobert Pattinfag was a troll you wouldn't say that. The cover she does is a joke compared to the ORIGINAL. It's called TALENT.
I would say the same thing! Not everyone evaluates songs, the artist who performs it! If he sang, someone completely different even you did not pay attention to my comment. But I wrote Rob and already a big deal!! It's an ordinary man! I do not care how the game or how it looks I like his version of this song! Kill me because I have a different opinion! A little distance! Tastes are different. More acceptance...
@jspin1103 No need for the classless bashing and homophobic slurs. Jasmina18 didn't say anything that warranted such immature disrespect. Grow up....the only things here in "bad taste" are your comments.
Please please! Change the settings to make this song available on mobile devices. Sometimes you gotta hear a little Van without getting out of bed. Oh yeah, and my computers broke :(
Heres the thing.. Van didn't give a shit about style..he is a troubadour..a poet, and it doesn't matter if somebody 'sings this better', cuz..well, Van tells the truth in his voice.. Love you, brother
I would play this song when getting ready for work/going out, and sit there listening, almost in a paralyzed state of mind taking it all in, and day dreaming of that perfect man singing these lyrics...
I can't put it into words, but Van does that for me. This is my all time favorite song of all songs by any artist ever. Van is in a class that will only be appreciated to the fullest in years to come. Thank you - Van! I am a brown eyed American girl born of Irish descent and I have no roots.
@Cedarbee1 Hi! I didn't know this song, but I agree with you: when I hear Van Morrison's music it sounds like words are coming from a higher soul or an untouchable spirit. But yet, it seems like words are also from our common and simple lives. I don't know, but since I'm portuguese, with some celtic remains in my blood, I just feel these songs closer to me than all the crap I hear on the radio all day long.
this probably isn't the place to post such a sentiment ...i am a van lover and it sort of annoys me when people spew dribble like that on videos of him. i came to listen to van not have to read about how people think something that cant even hold a candle to this mans voice is somehow better. not to hate on the twihards but van has 40 years on pattinson and is a SINGER. he doesn't butcher the song but it is silly to even try to compare his warbling to this maestro of soul.
Yep - Watched "Proof of Life" tonight and was reminded how much I LOVE Van Morrison. I listen to him and it takes me somewhere I love to b. Thank you Van!!
I watched the movie "Proof of Life" for the 20th time at least; heard this song and was taken by the words, the passion, everything . . . VM was one of the greatest performers of his time. This is really truly a meaningful song that took me back to the late 70s early 80s when love was truly meant to be something real between two people. Van Morrison was HOT! RPatterson, who?
This song is so beautiful! It was used in the movie PROOF of LIFE. They played it right at the very end! Wow! Powerful! Umph! Wish I could me the man like so many of us! Thanks, Van!
van morrison is a pure legend, this has to be one of his many seductives songs, his voice and the playing of the strings... jee it tugs at my heart everytime!!! thank god for this talented man!!! xo (when he says at the end 'how was that?' every time i say, fucking brilliant!)
omg i can't believe i just heard that major change right there +_+
Its like ear drugs that you just can not get rid of of top in any way if you tried your whole life to do it...... i am so spech less right now...... +_+
Yes i don't give a fuck who says I'm in deed on some type of crack but Robert pattinson sounds better with out a recoded track to his name. ( and yes i do hate twilight so don't say that I'm saying this because i am one of those people who are hooked on twilight i.d.g.a.f >:(
i know the great voice but who are these great guitarists who are so great at accompanying him. Blows me away how this all came to be, so beautiful. Nicely done, I love it. Ms. Sepulveda
What a great song and fine performance by Van Morrison too!! Haven't heard him for a while, and it was nce to be reminded of what a fine performer he is!!! Nandani Jaya
After watching "Proof of Life" I heard this song. I knew it was VM immediately & thought it was a brand new song!! Had to buy it and did........such a simple but delicious song......hope you have great speakers so you can adjust the bass and treble......to listen how Van makes every sung note and instrument sound an original Natural High of his and his alone......forever!!
How was that? Well, it moves me now just as much as it did when I first heard it in 1971. The memories of happy days and great times are all within this masterpiece.
Do I have to move to Ireland to meet a man who will reveal himself like this? Using this song in the last scene of Proof of Life with Russell Crowe was genius...
And what would the world be "without songs like this".. So much love behind these words. Love is the best thing we have. I feel so good listening to the absolute "king" of emotions. I love someone.. And "without songs like this" emotions will not be printed on paper and sung by masters.. MAKE LOVE... PEACE
too many of us are falling away from our true self for a moment of fame or power only to see in the end that we had every thing we needed in the eyes of the ones who love us.
Stellar!! Used to go out drinkin' and drivin' all night in a huge game farm and listen to Van Morrison. Giving my age away here but, gas was .23-24 cents a gal. Only 8-track tapes in those days. Many fond memories. I'm getting all melancholy now and have to go. Enjoy.
I first heard this track in the film "Moonlight Mile" (another great song). That movie has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. But this song is got me hooked on Van Morrison. I agree with my friend 'CitySkin09'-- I've always imagined playing this song at my wedding. Props to 'ebhughes' for this song and video.
The most romantic song on the planet, on this is coming from a girl who discovered this at the age of 16. I still listen to Van now at age 21, all of his genres. It'll be a dark dark day for me when he passes away. Something inside me will break, most likely my heart.
it's not horrific. see, i didn't know that the actor did a cover of it, i just found out about it and it is not bad at all. i recently had a conversation with a girl who thought "umbrella" was rhiannas song, and i didn't know what she was talking about. no need to be ashamed. and it took me long to find out that ugly kid joe wasn't the originator of cats in the cradle. it happens.
Hilarious! A few years back there were only one or two videos of this song.
I was first introduced to it, when I watched "Proof of Life" with R. Crowe and M. Ryan, in which the song fit perfectly at the closing credits. Back then I thought, how can so few people know this song?? It's an absolute masterpiece!
Anyways, I'm glad there's dudes out there who share my passion for this song.
@Winchester1973 Yes same with me and I remember stopping dead in my tracks on the way out to listen to this music and I agree it was perfect for the movie. The other sad thing is that I just found it on here now after checking the movie for the sound track. I knew right away it was Van the Man but had not heard the track. Great music.
I'm snickering at you guys, I get the feeling you are suprised how involved this song is. I roughly count the right hand hits the strings about 600 time and the left hand.... I'm not even going to bother guessing but between all the hammer ons, pull offs, double stops and sliding back and forth has to be up close to a thousand times. Then when you figure i'll maybe practice on a few bars a week over and over to get it right, i'm damned near insane already :))
I love this song. The guitar work is great. I've been working on this song for a couple of months now and i'm just now half way thru it, one things for sure it certainly isn't an easy piece of music but its just so beautiful I have to spend the time to get it perfectly just a shame I cant sing for crap...but you gotta love Morrison I pretty much grew up with him.
ha ha quite a few ppl watched proof of life! i did too, i ended up rewinding the credits to hear this again. very good song, infact perfect for my wedding day. think ill be listening to the other songs he does too cos im a new fan!
@markmccourt21 ...lol!, yep just finished watching it tonight here in New Zealand and thought it sounded like van so had to wait for credits and here I am now listening to it...great sound :)
@shhmokinjoe Ditto - thought it wasn't actually going to say the name though, had to wait right till the end of the credits. Has moved up the ranks of my favourites.
Agree, had to trawl through so many Pattison poo to get to this, worth it though. There are just some soundtracks that really get you listening. Heard this at the end of Proof of Life and went so well with the end sequence.
@darrentoes fucking magic mate, its a shame the Youtube optimisation team felt the need to link a Pattinson video to the search criteria of this absolute classic.
Just watched Proof of Life and found myself enjoying the credits more because of this tune. Can`t believe that pasty faced vampire nonce Robert Pattison`s piss poor cover has over 600,000 more views than this. Its a bloody crime.
his cover is not piss poor. our cover of it sounds still worse than his, though it took a lot of time effort to get it only halfway right. same with a ton of classic songs, beautiful but hard to play perfect. so no need to put hobby musicians down, who like to play classic songs in their downtime. and i think it is a good thing if pattinson shows a sense for this kind of music it will get back into his follower's ears. and here i agree with you, this should have way more views.
You could play this song anywhere right now and people would listen to it... ask who sings it and buy on itunes amazon or what have you. it's uterly timeless.......
The more I play this song the more I love it. Never get's old just better.

@01jgh aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh does it actually take months?

Its a bloody crime.
amthe14U2NV 1 year ago
@amthe14U2NV .....Couldn't agree more.........just no comparison...
trublugeoff 1 year ago
@amthe14U2NV
his cover is not piss poor. our cover of it sounds still worse than his, though it took a lot of time effort to get it only halfway right. same with a ton of classic songs, beautiful but hard to play perfect. so no need to put hobby musicians down, who like to play classic songs in their downtime. and i think it is a good thing if pattinson shows a sense for this kind of music it will get back into his follower's ears. and here i agree with you, this should have way more views.

God, I love this song, and it is the song to dance to when you marry.
Ramial22 1 year ago
My husband I had had our first dance at our wedding to "crazy love" and the last song of the night was this one. We love it! Such a beautiful song.

Its a toss up between this tune and Art Garfunkle's cover of "I Only Have Eyes for You"
for a wedding song.

If I ever get married, and that's a big fuckin' IF, I want to make this the first song I dance with my new bride to...

@CitySkin09 Good call. I thought the same thing when I first heard this song...except in my case it would be "groom" rather then "bride".
