i play oboe!!! my dream is to play english horn next!! wen i was playing my oboe i didnt know if it was me or a dying duck out side..all i heard was SQUAK!!
oboes ROCK!! i kill anybody who calls me a clarinet (no offense but i dont like clarinets anymore for this reason: ive been called one like 5 times to many to keep count)
I play bassoon for my band but I have played oboe for a couple years after teaching myself. This year my teacher chose a song with an english horn solo and I got to play it. Also my bassoon teacher has a contrabassoon so I play that as well when she lets me. So...I can play all the double reeds. *special* (:
Ahhhhh! I love the oboe! I hav played for two years and I the only one in my band..... But it reely fun! but I still sound like a duck sometimes....... I play on a medium lesher reed. I hate jones! Anyways you guy sounded awesome!!!!
My friend is gonna buy me an english horn, im so excited. I play Alto Sax right now and I like it for jazz of course, and for marching band, but it doesnt really have a place in classical music.
Wonderful playing! I adore the duet "Là ci darem la mano" from Don Giovanni (the melody this theme and variations is based on) - this is such a fun way to enjoy it :) Thanks for posting this video!
@heroloverXD Embouchure and how much air contributes to the "duck sound" I sounded the same when i first began. Maby you are on a reed that may be to strong for you. If you are on a medium (which most music stores only carry) try moving down to a medium soft. That will help alot! PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!! If you dont you will have a hard time achiving the clean cut sound u hear here. Good luck!!
I would love to take up english horn i only play oboe and clarinet, but i think something like dance of the mirlitons or la cinquantane would sound better on cor anglais than it does when i play them on clarinet and oboe
english horn AND oboe have pretty much the same fingerings so you'd only have minor adjustments, fingerings ...THE SAME. for the most part(english horn doesn't hit certain low notes[i think])
This is really beautifully done! I love it. And if you are going to post stupid comments like stabbing straws in your ears, don't post at all...you are missing the point. I agree, beautiful English horn solo! Beautiful trio, post more stuff please!!!!
I double english horn and oboe in a local youth orchestra, and this horn player is extraordinary. The amount of work put in must have been tremendous. I know from experience that the fingerings are quite hard to execute precisely, and she pulled it off!Bravo!!!!
she really plays that technique like it was an oboe doesn't she? Quite impressive to be so fluid technically on such a potentially clunky instrument.
A LOT of different factors could change your high notes. Your reeds may be unstable (that takes a lot of explaining if you don't make your own reeds) and if you open your embouchure a tad and just blow more air through the horn it will help. You can't clamp your lips down on the high notes, and you have to fill the horn up with a bunch of air so that it "sings" at full potential.
I cannot find the sheet music for this ANYWHERE.
