Verizon was the worst work experience I have ever had in my life. It was horrible. I hate Verizon like I hate Satan. I was a steward and could do nothing to fight them. Verizon is an enormous legal department that also happens to provide voice, video, and data. The NLRB does nothing but kiss Verizon ass.

Verizon had 87,000 union employees in 2000, a number that had fallen to 78,000 by 2003 and further to today's 65,000. The company had 228,600 workers overall at the end of June, including Verizon Wireless.

Banc of America Securities analyst David Barden expects the deadline to pass without a contract, but without a strike starting, either. He is further quoted as saying...

"Labor will continue to go to work without a contract while the UNION leadership ratchets up its RHETORIC regarding the need for a contract and Verizon expresses optimism a fair agreement is possible," Barden wrote in a research note.

They think we are full of shit & will not go on strike.

This is a violation of the CBA and as I see it the start of a very nasty weekend and strike. The BROOKLYN MANAGEMENT just woke the sleeping GIANT. 1109 will not back down and is looking forward to fighting for our work!! Hay Verizon, YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE. WANT A FIGHT GOT A FIGHT!!! That is why it hurt to have some SCUM BAGS turn their backs on us. I am sure you are a great member but nothing says FU to the company then refusing their money. If you are a technician then you must be checking your vehicle, doing all of your safety checks and working to the rule. Verizon has neglected the plant for years and now they want us to clean it all up so management can lie around in our trucks and watch us walk. Well lets make them sweat. They wont give us AC.

I hope that everyone is is willing to put their money where their mouth is because if these workers work without a contract then all of this will be for nothing and the company will view this as weakness and the union members won't get what they want. Stay strong!!

xiombix,I will not pass judgment on a union member working, unless they crossed. But so many have no idea what union means or has achieved for us. When a new member goes to a meeting or a long time member goes to a first meeting. They are not greeted with Thank you for showing your support, they are hit with "why is this your first time?" I have watched meeting after meeting dwindle down to the 5-10 active members because there is no Positive education, only finger pointing and rhetoric.

Just so you know, going to work and goofing off and flagging crap is not being a good Union member. Taking pride in your work, work ethic, appearance and membership in the Union makes someone a good Union member. Being a lazy POS just makes you a POS employee. I love your idea on gas cards.

TTA1109, I should have been a bit more clear on the unproductive.... if you are a I&M tech and your daily is 4.5 on 8hrs - nothing in the productivity that requires more than 4.5 per shift, if your shift goes into OT for 9-10 hrs your still graded on 4.5 jobs. I understand its much more difficult for our inside union members, as tech support is clock watched at 15 mins per help ticket. But union STAND UP and be counted can be one heck of a surprise for supervisor to see.

Ohsourban, what kind of Union member are you? If your Union asks you to turn down OT for one day and attend a rally you should. No, I am not a SOCIALIST. I do however believe that the rally was an event that every member should have attended. I understand that people have other commitments and that is fine. However, when asked not to work those rats turned their back on us all. Weather or not you attended the rally; you should let the scum who worked know that they screwed up.

PART 1- what hurts VZ? work & take the money and be unproductive - ride the clock, bank work and complete on OT. WORK to the RULES, do your saftey inspections, do your call backs, talk to each customer at length and let them know why Verizon sent you to them 15 days after they lost service......KEEP UNION POSITIVE in our customers eyes. 12% increase for VERIZON for this past quarter that = $ BILLONS. THATS WHAT WE AS WORKERS HAVE DONE FOR VERIZON.
