  • @ 409playa thank u so much 4 concisely exlping that.I've heard varaitions of this with the name Grimaldi & I've kind of had a bit of an obession 2 know what this means.

  • This is just simply genius! The joke itself is already great, but I also think that they did a good job in telling the joke with the pictures just like in the comic. I love the comic and i like the movie, but actually I think the ending in the film is better that the ending in the comic.

  • Was funnier when Rorschach told it in the graphic novel. Pacing across panels is easier to control.

  • currently reading the novel........shames the movie in every single way. Kinda weird considering i loved the movie, and the directors cut was really good. :D

  • wait, Batman is in Watchmen?

  • who watches the watchmen, the same goes for pagliacci he entertains others but who entertains?

  • It's a joke, everything its a joke god damn it. Mother forgive me!!

  • Reir LLorando Juan de dios Peza

  • Just saying, if you are depressed and your doctor tells you to "Go see a clown" - go to a different doctor.

  • I loved this joke.

  • it's not funny, it's sad :(

  • ILLUMUNATI!

  • @OGCOUGH ?

  • @OGCOUGH= Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny. What do they all have in common with the Illuminati? They're all figments of your imagination.

  • @OGCOUGH How?

  • Good video. Everybody jizz. View sidebar. Thumb up good comments. Troll everyone. Check inbox.

  • I don't understand... I haven't seen this move. Can someone explain it to me?

  • @filek1011 The joke or the context?.

  • @PleasedToBeHere1 context

  • @filek1011 ** SPOILER ALERT **

One sociopathic masked hero called The Comedian was murdered, and Rorschach is analyzing him and how he was mocking of society by acting like a jerk.

  • @filek1011 It's basically like a alternate reality where masked heroes play a huge part in the worlds history, also the characters sybolize different aspects of human nature. The film is very philosopical and thought provoking. If you dont understand the film fully I highly recommend you read the graphic novel, its has bits in it that the movie leaves out.

  • @filek1011 The joke is used mostly as an insight into the psyche of the character speaking. It's not so much a joke as a description of the joke teller. I would suggest you watch the movie if you want to understand fully. It's a long film but not hard to understand. The graphic novel is better but IMO the ending in this is better.

  • a cynical and all too true view on life.

  • @ZiLLaCSS, would you please update the text in description to this? this is what he actually says:

I heard joke once. Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Life seems harsh... and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says treatment is simple, "the great clown Pagliacci is in town, go see him. That should pick you up."

Man bursts into tears. "But doctor," he says, "I AM Pagliacci."

Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

  • This scene is actually more powerful than this part of the graphic novel.

  • almost everyone that seen this movie that didnt have some knowledge of watchmen before viewing it, told me they were kinda lost. also most movie viewers thought this would be a superhero more action then story, so they probably were not noticing the great story. its one of those movies you need to see twice, for the non-fans.

  • @hound4680 agreeeeeeeeeeeeeed. i watched it, didn't understand a thing but liked the violence haha. then i watched it again and i was actually able to follow the storyline properly

  • @hound4680 I disagree. I did not read Watchmen and, in fact, had no knwledge of the series when I saw this movie, and I understood it perfectly. I think the problem lies in the average mindless, Hollywood slave seeing this movie, because as you said, they are expecting a "traditional" superhero movie, wherein the heroes where bright spandex, beat up some bad guys and save the world. It has nothing to do with being a Watchmen fan or not.

  • Garbage.

  • the writer of this should be so proud

  • Who makes Pagliacci happy, eh?

  • @R2R3L4 The same person who watch the watchmen.

  • I lol´d

  • 5 people dislikes? Hang'em high!

  • Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

  • WATCHMEN is a very thought provoking film

  • @zatchd1 It changed my life

  • And lol, if anyone doesnt get this joke, you're an idiot.

  • I love Rorschach, best character on in the Movie. I need some of his movie quotes as mp3

  • my boyfriend loves this film

  • Yeah, I don't get the joke. :/

  • @TheArcher101

if you watch the movie you will get the point

the message is clear : life is a very very bad and crude joke

  • @TheArcher101 idiot..

Anyway, The joke is this guy is depressed and tells his doctor, who instead of prescribed anti-depressants tells him to see the great clown Pagliacci and that should raise his spirits and make him less depressed. The punch line of the joke is the man who was depressed is actually Pagliacci the famous clown and he has no treatment.

  • yeah, that is true. lol

  • he actually had an oscar nomination two or three years before this movie by playing a child molester. dont remember the films name. but thats what got him the role of rorschach

he truly shows his talented acting skills in watchmen and got overlooked for this role in the oscars :(

  • 5 people didn’t see the great clown Pagliacci.

  • That wasn't funny D:

    Maybe ironic....

  • this actually is no joke, its a poem called "Reir Llorando" and the clown is an actor named Garrick.

this was writen by Juan de Dios Peza. beautiful poem, you should check that out

  • @SonokiSerch where dude?

  • gooooood lord Rorschach is amazing

  • The point is that Pagliacci the clown is not being taken seriously. He lives as a clown to entertain others. He mends hearts with his performance and makes everyone happy but is miserable inside. Even as he breaks down in front of everyone, he is laughed at. So the irony is that the man that gives joy to everyone lives a depressing life.

  • @409playa from the way I saw it, it was more to do with the watchmen being the law enforcers/guardians but the watchmen themselves were or had been corrupted.

  • In "I pagliacci", Canio (who plays the clown pagliacci) starts to suspect that Nedda (his wife) is having an affair with one of the other actors. He becomes enraged. During one of his later performances, he demands Nedda to tell him who her lover is. The audience thinks this is still part of the play and laugh uncontrollably. He becomes heart broken as the audience laughs at the clown pagliacci, until he stabs Nedda. In her final words, she asked her lover (Salvio) to help her. He is also killed

  • 4 people can suck a fat chode

  • This is shit compared with the Motion Comic.

  • just read that part in the book... Powerful movie... much more powerful book. I see why Alan Moore doesn't want any more movies made from his work

  • That's gotta be one of the most depressing jokes i have ever heard.

  • HAHAHAHA good joke!

  • @Cloud2424 Everybody laugh

  • I like the comedian humans are savage in nature no matter how hard we try to disguise it

  • they should make a film about the comedians origins

  • i still dont understand this joke can someone reply with like the meaning please

  • @satanslayer17 The one needing help is the same everyone seeks for cure. Pagliacci is the one that gives joy to everyone, but at the same time he is miserable. This is the irony. Of course, its a bit more complex than this, specially if you take in account the real Pagliacci story, but thats too much for a simple reply =)

  • I liked the sex scene in the Archie best.

  • @virumoz Troll harder.

  • its a joke that Jackie didnt win an Oscar. also hates this movie was amazing, if you spent the whole time staring at manhattan's junk then you obviously were too young (mentally) to understand it.

  • @tiemedown at the other hand, junk was just too distractive :D

Its much easier to avoid in novel

  • @Stalky24 true zach isnt the best editor...shouldve had a streamlined theatrical version and a really amazing like 10 hr directors cut

  • @tiemedown Oh id so watch that!!

  • @Stalky24 me too. I wish there was more in the director's cut. the casting was so good that it grinds me that there can be no sequel....but a prequel?? jk it wont happen

  • @tiemedown maybe the pirate story? That one was great.

  • @Stalky24 oh they made that goofy movie about that, the cartoon. its not too shabby

  • Could've been a great movie but the end was such a load of suck. Not too mention that blue dude, and the frequency with which we were forced to see his semi-translucent dong.

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns

You were too absorbed in watching his dong, says quite a bit about you.

  • @timmydough Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns lol dong

  • best heroe rorschach and he died! fuck off!!

  • insane movie . i love it

  • Good film. Everybody clap. Roll credits. Curtains.

  • U havn't seen watchmen the right way until uv seen the 3 hour blu-ray directors cut.

  • best joke ever

  • I want Rorschach to be my dad.

  • @ohnoshedidntw8 Yeah just don't ask him to buy dogs

  • I Lol'd when i first heard it.

  • I think the comedian is the only one was the best character. Not only he embraces his savage human nature, but makes a parody of it.

    Alan moore is just brilliant

  • Anyone Know The Music Playing?

  • @Sk8erMikez

Edward Blake: The Comedian, by Tyler Bates

    Watchmen Soundtrack

  • blake is bastard

  • @MrMUSCAT908 form that lot there are only two heros that are better than blake as persson Rorschach and the first Nite Owl

  • i have no idea what hes talking about i mean i know that the joke is ment to say that the clown will be sad forever but i just dont get it!somone explain?

  • @scousereddy2468 I understand the joke , The context maybe not , maybe the comedian kills somes of men and after is his time ... something like this or maybe when the comedian is like the ' clown ' who crying ... ( no one can't believe that he cried )

sorry for my english ( not my mother language )

  • @juju024 no worrie you only done afew spelling mistakes thats all thanx for replying it sort of helped me understand!:)

  • @scousereddy2468 i think the point is: the comedian represents a general attitude of not taking things serious and trying to just enjoy life without wasting any time or energy in regrets or doubts. in the end he understands that this "nihilism" leads to a senseless life without any goals and collapses. what do we learn? sometimes you have to be serious about at least some little things otherwise life's just a joke! :)

  • @schniggedischnaggedi nice, nice!

  • Ah, good ol' Rorschach, always knows how to light the mood

  • no one never thinks about the poor ol' clown...

  • and thanks for posting this!! Even though I haven't seen the movie yet (*sigh*) I've always loved this part in the book! =P such a great scene...

  • 1 dislike=Pagliacci... :(

  • Anyone know the name of the song?

  • @I3ar3 i don't know the name of the song, but there is in the score.

  • Music was so good for this scene.

  • Jackie Earl Hailey was so PERFECT..

  • I Heard joke once:

Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain.

Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up."

    Man bursts into tears.

Says, "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

    Good joke.

Everybody laugh.*roll on Snare Drum* , *curtains*

    -Rorschach, The Watchmen

  • Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and

cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies

ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great

clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you

up. Man bursts into tears. Says, "But, doctor...I am Pa...gliacci."

  • i love this joke, it's so grim and dark and so true! it's wonderful satire if you look at it!

  • Doesn't he kind of remind you of Clint Eastwood? Lol

  • That was my favorite scene.

  • Best line ever...

I agree. This dude needs an oscar... or something

  • No Compromise!

  • Thank for uploading this.

  • why the fuck didnt this movie get any oscars?

  • Apparantly Jackie Earle Haley is set to play Freddy Kruger in the next Nightmare movie. That could kick some serious ass if they brought back the serious, spooky Freddy from Nightmare part 1!

  • @Metamorp8 He did, and he was fucking awesome.

  • I am Pagliacci...

  • isn't life itself one big joke, though?

  • @Kaarlo good idea lol

  • @Yungwolf1 Are you nihilistic? Like the Comedian?

  • @Yungwolf1 I think the whole point of the Comedian's character is to make that point.

  • @Yungwolf1

It's a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

  • @Yungwolf1 It is but it beats being dead

  • @Yungwolf1 life's a joke and death's a laugh. monty python said it first.

  • @Loop44 I believe it was said just a little earlier than the 1970's bro... lol

    The BiG JoKE

  • i like the comic movie version better more epic XD

  • Seriously, no Oscar nom for Rorschach? Come the hell on.

  • @Lamporre it's not that difficult a part, it's a good part but not a hard one.

  • @Lamporre he did it well but it isn't too difficult a part to play

  • @Lamporre that's why I don't watch any movies that won Oscars

  • @Lamporre Just because this film tells lots of truths

  • @Lamporre Ive always thought Jackie Earl Haley was amazing, better perv than Stanley Tucci too:) anywho

  • Humans will never be perfect, but the idea is to always aim for a better world.

  • @martiallaw09 so true.

  • hmm yes there should be some real watchmen like Night Owl and Rorschach...

  • Good scene. (Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drums. Curtains.)

  • I liked that they included this in the movie

  • this monologue had some involuntary comedy. rorschach telling a joke with his deep voice....funny! ;-)

imagine rorschach at a kids birthday party telling jokes.

thats like when christopher walken read a novel to kids on the Simpsons

  • BEST ACTOR.

  • What I find amazing is that Alan Moore specifically designed Rorschach to be hated by the audience, when, ironically, he is the most beloved character in Watchmen.

It's funny how it works out like that.

  • That's the point. The Comedian represents the irony of the human mentality, and Rorschach serves as tragic proof of the naivete of "heroes"

Good and evil intentions are on each side of the same card. There is no "good" and there is no "evil". Both are manifested on PERCEPTION. "Heroes" and "Villains" should make peace with that concept, stop fighting for what they believe in, and live their lives.

True peace is made by leaving things alone, not by taking sides on a personal belief.

  • I love this part!

  • The joke is originaly a poem of Juan De Dios Peza a Mexican writer. The name of the poem is Reir Llorando an the real name of the clown is Garrik

  • Ohh i just got the 12 original 1986 issues, first print and signed by Alan Moore and David Gibbons

  • Can anyone tell me the music playing in the background ?

  • The doctor tells him to see the clown to make him feel happy because he is sad but he cries because he is the clown

  • @sherriepegasus the point behind the joke is that he is "the happy man" who makes everyone happy, but who makes "the happy man" happy when he is sad? that's the irony, he spends his life making others happy and he can't find happiness himself, weither you find the joke funny is a different story, I do. but then again I understand it all too well...

  • The joke is a very direct representation of Watchmen's dilemma in itself. "Who watches Watchmen?" How do the heroes who spend their lives protecting others, protect their own?

  • what I was trying to say but in better words.

  • @sherriepegasus It's very dark humor. It made me laugh. :3

  • i love

  • this was a great movie and comic it made me actually want this to happen in real life. Wow that is not a good thing to say

  • i agree with philyt. the hero and villian are chosen by the media. here we saw 911 as a horible attack on the ee.uu. while whoever caused 911 saw it as those heroes died for us and vise versa, we see soilders as "heroes" while they see them as people invading and killing their "heroes"

  • Either you die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villian. The only problem I had while watching the movie was defining the difference of a hero and a villian.

  • Damn.....perfect quote for Rorschach. I believe that, in cases like this, the roles of heroes and villains are up to perception. There's a clear gray area at the end where Rorschach dies, but he always sees things in black-and-white. In his perspective, if he were to conform, he'd become the "villain." The corruption he's always fought against. Living in a world built on lies and conformity seems to be a fate worse than death for him.

  • "I believe that, in cases like this, the roles of heroes and villains are up to perception. "

To which a quote can reply:

"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".

  • Well said.

The terms "Hero" and "Villain" are technically bullshit...

What is a Hero? A person who fights for what he believes in.

What is a villain? A person who fights for what he believes in...

It's somewhat laughable... Society that is.

  • Comment removed

  • Rorshchach is my idle he understands that the world is cruel and you have to be just about or more cruel than the world itself... just like me :)

  • What was the "message"/"meaning" in this joke?

  • Edward Blake (The Comedian) saw the world for exactly what it was - a violent and evil place - and the way he dealt with that knowledge was by being just as violent and evil. That's why he was The Comedian, because he was "in on the joke." But when he found out about [SPOILER]'s plan, it was too much even for him to stomach. But who could he tell? There's no one more cynical than him.

The joke Rorschach tells is ancient, but parallels what Eddie was going through until he was murdered.

  • Ohhhh i get THAT part of the movie now.

But what about the JOKE ITSELF.

Like is it irony or something?

  • ...pretty much, yes. Good comedy always comes from the most scarred people, as these are the ones who need laughs the most.

  • Treatment is simple for world peace.

Everyone kill themselves, let nature bloom. Is anyone gonna do it?

    Lolno.

Hence we like wars to keep the population in check. Pew pew

  • "World peace" is a rather loose term.

What is actually meant by most people using those words, is peace between all humans.

But in the end, nothing is likely to change.

The main reason for disagreements and death is and remains ourself: Humans...

  • I love this scene ^^ Movie was great!

  • Rorschach's voice is totally awesome. So much emotion in it

  • Yeah, his voice is like dark but not over the top, it comes out natural.

  • what is the soundtrack playing in the background?

  • penis in the air

  • "Edward Blake - The Comedian" by Tyler Bates on the Watchmen: The Original Motion Picture Score. Not the same as the Watchmen soundtrack.
