Wow.. now that I realized he's playing a Buffet Crampon Tosca =) . I wonder which mouthpiece he's using. It' been a big competition between BC Tosca x BC R13 .
In my view Martin Frost is probably one of the most technically gifted clarinetists the world has ever seen. I have no idea how he articulates so rapidly (double tonguing maybe?). So far as tone is concerned that is a matter of preference and is very subjective to the listener. I personally prefer the indefinable quality of those such as Jack Brymer, Paul Meyer and Karl Leister. Emma Johnson has a very unique style, a bit like Marmite 'love it or hate it'. I quite like it.
OK, people. This guy is absolutely fantastic. He has breath control and technique the likes of which are not often seen. He has some moments in his musicianship that are stellar. He is NOT, however, the best clarinetist the world has ever seen. He is a soloist first, and while he is a remarkable one at that, there are many things to point to in his playing that are appreciated only by the general public. Sorry, my professional opinion. Reginald Kell; Kjell-Inge Stevensson; Emma Johnson > MF
@danmcglaun1 Just tell me why? and what do you want from someone playing an instrument? and what are your criteria? I think that we 've all forgotten that we 're talking about music here! and why should we always compare two different interpretentions of one piece or two different soloist! Each of them is who he is we dont have to compare whether one is good or better! I believe this IS wrong I believe it is not in favor for our music,I believe this attitude has caused a great harm in our music.
@danmcglaun1 Kell - Ok, I can maybe understand, but Emma Johnson? Seriously?... You know, it IS possible to be musically imaginative AND have a great technique.
i love the violins pinch harmonics absoulty beautiful. i've never heard anything like this before. its, so beautfiul. i love this. i absolutly must have this on my iPod.
Unbelievable. The music is so sinewy and his playing is magnificent and so technically adept! And what gorgeous scenery in the background too. Must have been a wonderful experience.
white privilege! yay!

@danmcglaun1 David Shifrin could also poop on Martin Frost, too

@memphis148 Hey. None of that. Clarinet players are way too complex and diverse to be set to the low of petty comparisons.

He sounds like a tibetan bowl... astonishingly intense. He must have an iron downer lip.

I don't care what you say, Martin Fröst and Benny Goodman are the two best clarinetists the world has seen.
