If Jan & Dean had ever appeared on "Hee Haw", this is what it would have sounded like. I hope I never hear this recording again; it was two minutes of my life I'll never get back. And it was like passing a car accident...you know, when you can't bear to look, but you can't bear to look away, either?? I couldn't stop myself from listening to this until it ended. I'm a Jan & Dean fan, and this remake is a tragedy.
Originally done by Jan and Arnie on Arvin records? Flip side as Gas Money. Than came Baby Talk by Jan Dean, which was a cover for a NY Doo Wop group whose name I forgot. Jan and Dean recorded for Dore records until moving to UAs Liberty label.
A pair of hillbillies Jan n Dean..Who would have known ? Just kidding, I'm a hillbilly myself and really dig the blue grass sound to this pairs normal surf sound which I also like.
I've always loved this version which has somewhat of a bluegrass sound to it. My family and I always referred to it as the "shit-kickin" version of Jennie Lee. Of course, we mean that in a good way! Gotta love those fiddles and banjos!!!
