well this one of those arias in giulio cesare that i dont mind being cut...the 2nd act tends to drag a bit (you have cleopatra's v'adoro thats 7 minutes long, cesare's se in fiorito thats 7 1/2 minute, and cleopatras se pieta thats 10 minutes long!) At least they didnt cut the whole thing! the only arias they cut completely was achilla's se me non crudele and cleopatra's tutto puo donna...
Hm, L'angue offeso is my fav Sesto aria. And I find Sesto/Tuva by far the most interesting singer in this production. But you're right, 2nd act is long and you can't cut the 3 arias you mentioned. However, I personally don't think 3 minutes more would hurt anybody, at least not a Handel fan ;-)
Btw, do you know whether Scholl sang Quel Torrente in this production?
Langue Offesa is great but my favortie sesto aria is svegliatevi nel core because you have the fierce A section, and rather creepy B section. I actually like Inger Dam-Jensen the best in this production. Her cleopatra is a real person not just a haughty teenager like she is usually portraied. Yes, Andreas does sing quel torrente but like la giustizia that follows it, its only given as the A section- whats you favorite cesare production youve seen on cd or dvd?
I find Minko's CD close to perfect. Definite owners of roles are for me Kozena for Cleo and Hellekant for Cornelia. For Sesto there are Tuva, Angelika, Anna B., Anne Sophie, Magdalena again, but surely NOT a countertenor (= historically not correct!!). For Cesare Mijanovic is the best I've heard, perhaps Mingardo would be great too (in my imagination). The other roles I don't mind. And yours?
It can be sung by a counter-tenor (I know that David Daniels has recorded it) but at the original premiere in 1724, it was sung by a mezzo-soprano just like here.
I think it is "Langue", not "L'angue". Sources:i am italian

SUCH A PITY that they cut this aria, would have loved to hear her da capo, she does such a stylish interpretation. Great acting, too.
