0:10-0:15 are the best overacted lines from this campy television production. "You three, DARE DESTROY THEE SILVER CHAR!! (Misspelling is accurate in this quote, due to her strange pronunciation...)
I was always afrain of Barbara Kellermann's characters when I watched this when I was about 6 years old back in the early 90's. The White Witch was scary as hell, but The Green Lady was much scarier. I must admit I hid behind the couch when she turned into a snake. :D
I've always wondered if The Green Lady Of The Underworld and The White Witch are the one and same...I know Barbara played both characters, as well as the hag who tried to bring back The White Witch in 'Prince Caspian' in the caves, but is she a reincarnation of the White Witch in some way? When Aslan is mentioned to the Green Lady it's like she knows exactly who he is.
The Silver Chair is the first film in the series to not include the Pevensie children, who have thus far been the main characters in the series. The main characters are Eustace Scrubb and her schoolmate Jill Pole. Scrubb will be introduced to the series this fall in the third film in the series, The Dawn Treader. No doubt Jesus will make an appearance in Lion form.
This bloody well ROCKS!! it takes me back to my childhood the bit where she turns into a snake is brilliant watch it in slow-mo the effects are just AMAZING, Plus it has tom baker in it. kids these days do not know what proper t.v is, SO WATCH AND LEARN KIDS oh and bloody well learn to S.P.E.L.L
i love puddleglum's speeches here. I would say this is the brilliant crux of this book. the witch seemsto be an embodiment of celtic myth and satan and the people of the real world, and puddleglum's speech is i would say not only a defense of christianity, but also of myth and fairy stories themselves. Well done Puddleglum and Mr. Lewis!!!!
Lewis basically admits that Christianity, God and Heaven are imaginary and are clinged to by wilful delusion... hey, Clive Staples, are you sure you're not an atheist apologist after all? Look, there you have your author avatar say it out loud: "our fantasy is more pleasant than this dull reality, so I'll just believe it."
You can hear the tremble in the Green Lady's voice - sounds like she was seriously pissed off that someone broke her chair. Then she laughs when Rilian owns up. WTF?
"Which one of you has DARED destroy the Silver Chair"- CLASSIC OVERACTING.
Puddleglum is actually a pretty good actor. Rilian=Jesus, The witch is hilarious. The kids are decent by child actor standards (that's even before you include the kids in Last Airbender). The effects are like Power Rangers. This show is MUCH better than I remember it. Maybe its just that this is the best scene in both the book and the film.
For the record, I love this version, but I really hate the portrayals of Rilian and LotGK. Rilian is...I dunno, something is off about his character, and the witch is WAY over the top. Her maniacal laugh and over-enunciation just makes her comical, which ruins the eeriness of her character. Her evil is supposed to be more subtle, which makes her scarier. This kinda takes away the subtlety of the evil the book LotGK had, which was one of the best parts of the whole story.
The only thing about this adaption was that with Tom Baker (the most awesome Doctor!!) I expected a blue police phone box to appear at any time in it; course that's part of what made it awesome!!! Towards the end, when the undergrounds falling, it reminded me a lot of Doctor Who, just without Sarah Jane or Romama screaming for Tom
Just watched this for the first time today with my friends and it was so funny! We love Narnia and it was actually a pretty good adaption, just really funny :D
FFS people. so the effects are ropey as fuck. since when was that the measure of a film?
this was made 20 years ago for sod all money, and for kids tv for that matter. saying the new films are better is like saying the new star trek film was better than TOS.
not nessecarily satan. but the witch can represent atheistic rational though ; whereas the others represent existentialism.
if you hear puddleglums' speech you will see that he allegorically suppose pretty much everything a religious polemicist would say against a polemicist
Haha you're right Rillian's handsome :) and although she plays the part of the witch moderatley well( at least not like a normal casual human) her acting like she's on crack is a good way of putting it hehe..not that I'd know but still
A lot of readers after seeing this believe that the lady of the green kirtle and jadis the white witch are the same person - actually it was simply that they re-used the actress for budgeting reasons...
@TaienQuinn Actually I believed that The Lady in the Green Kirtle was Jadis because another reason "Though Under Earth and Throneless now I be..." it talks of her once ruling above now when you think about it. Was there really any witch besides Jadis in record who had this ability? I believe she is both the green and white witch and I stood by that long before I saw this movie because of all the hints thrown.
@Linariel there is a lot of Narnian history that is not written, for example how the White Witch came out of the North in the first place, during the hundred years of winter, and what of the time in between the end the LWW and King Caspian the 1st. I think the greatest reason why the white witch and the green lady are not the same, is that Aslan killed Jadis, I don't think he let her live. Unless maybe some sorcerer brought her back like they tried to do in PC and succeeded.
Cool yes but not exactly faithful to the books Capian was supposed to be a bit younger in the book (which is why it is Peter who challenges Miraz and not Caspian)- on the whole though it made no diffenrence to the film and actually gave it an exciting dynamic
I agree...in the book she was a lot more cunning, and I pictured her being much more beautiful....ALSO she played a harp if I remember correctly in the book...to add to the confusion in there heads...the movie didnt have any of that.
That's cool how she farts out of her fingers.

Ai. This is very funny for me to watch. Such overacting. Gotta admit though, I love 7:01 when the witch has a minor heart attack over the name Aslan.
Still, I think Puddleglum is the best actor and Rilian DOES look like Jesus!!!
The witch actually gets on my nerves with her overacting though :-)
