What about using an external mic?? Im thinking of buying this camera because from what I have seen the image quality is excellent and its great in low light. Is the noise only noticable with the internal mic or does using an external mic sort it out?? Thanks
@smithy2306 You can get one and that should do it, but I don't find a problem with fan noise at all outdoors. I suggest you get the Panny based on features and price it can't be beat. The only competition is the Sony HDR-CX550V but it has no wind cut, no 1080p and no time lapse. I like the zoom range on the Panny.
I suggest you get the Panny with flash drive and not the HD. It's lighter and you can add memory...not that you'll need it. I can record for 4 hours on 1080p. HD's can crash too.....
Not sure though, but you seem to be sitting infront of a computer. Doesnt that void the whole sound test since theres probably computer fans humming nearby?
@SvenOkonomi You may be right to an extent and I thought about that later, but my computer is less than a year old and it has one fan and it's almost silent. Maybe I'll re-do this again later in my bedroom.
I think you can still hear the different sound levels though with the different settings on the camcorder. Using manual mode indoors with the AGC off should work OK.
@familybc146 Yeah I heard a distinct pitch that must have been its own fan. The problem with this cam is it seems to bump its microphone gain up way tomuch when theres silence. Perhaps with some kind of gain limiting firmware update would completely sort this out. I mean who needs enough mic sencitivity to hear a gnat fart. ;)
It seemed to me that while using the focus mic that the fan noise was even lower using the viewfinder since the mic is reaching forward. I was filming using full wide angle and was only 3' from my computer screen. I believe even better results could be had with these settings filming across a room
Note: In manual mode I had the AGC (automatic gain control) on. It automatically adjusts sound level. In a quiet setting it may increase gain. It can only be turned off in manual.
Wow panasonic seriously must fix this...
Here's another vid with noise (without the computer, vid shot outside):

Definitely the camera's fan noise as you can tell by the different pitches of the same humming noise when closing and opening the LCD screen.

@panmaew My computer at the time was pretty quiet and my new one is whisper quiet. When I have the time I'll update this test again.

Just the internal mic on the TM-700.

Just to clarify, are you using the internal mic or a external mic?
