WHY ON EARTH would you assume that just because a movie is about the European conquest of the Americas that it automatically must be saying that it's a good thing. The miniseries Roots is about slavery. Do you think that it was saying slavery is a good thing?
The movie isn't even out yet. You know NOTHING about it. You should wait to see it before you judge it.
yeah, you Nican tlaca fools are crazy, nutter bastards. care to explain why Tlingits should bow to mexica chauvinism and be forced to use foriegn alien terms like "Nican Tlaca" when they don't even speak nahautl? seems like I sniffed out a bunch of frauds
all historys have been conspired and misconstrued, even the spanish history of spaniards has been conspired by them,I saw a documentary by the spaniards themselves talking about their own historical evidence being altered, whos to say whats true or not, we really werent there, whiteamerica has always had a vendetta or a so called envy with the spanish having set foot first in the americas, this is why consipracies on their part wouldnt suprise me, the books they write could be an exaggeration
you might not know this but, spaniards and the british and descents of the english till this day have always been in competion of who left the best history in the americas, the english and the spanish are always writing books of who did the most damage in the americas, who was the better conqueror,etc.. it wouldnt suprise me that an american like david stannard would write a horrible view of the spaniards so that it can look like the spaniards were worst people than the english, think about it
the only way there is gonna be movies made about the true mexican history is to teach and educate young mexican american people that know the true mexican history to go to college and become film makers and producers, besides, who really is to say what is true history behind conspired history, for example that book called"american holocaust" by david stannard, just because it gives a different view of traditional mexican history doesnt mean its true, look who wrote it,an american of european roots
So are they marketing this film as factual? Or is it being marketed as a fictional love story? Personally, I don't take ANY movie as representing fact - but that doesn't say much for the masses, who pretty much believe whatever someone puts in front of them.
Tlexiktli much love for showing these guys what up man. Anyone can tell you know what you are talking about and I agree with you, anytime our culture is mentioned they talk about ripping peoples hearts out and shit, when they don't know what really went on. As for me I'm searching for the truth of our ancestors instead of beliving what white people told me in shool...Much Respect
I thought Malinalli spoke Nahuatl and a Mayan language and there was a Spanish priest who spoke one of the Mayan languages after being shipwrecked with them, isn't that how they translated? How did malinalli learn Spanish, anyways.....funny how Sacagewea is a Hero and Malinalli (Malinche) is a trator?? I need to check my facts, anyways that is what I thought was true ??maybe not..I will check
According to my knowledge you are correct only Malinalli later learned Spanish rendering the priest's translations unnecessary.
This is just me but in my opinion Malinalli is the worst traitor in human history. She helped some sadistic murderers commit the worst genocide ever upon her own people. Doesn't really get any worse than that.
Would it be considered MURDER cutting the hearts out of hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of terrified, helpless humans who were just religious objects?
Winston Churchill said "the height of modern arrogance was to judge a people of history apart of their context". The Conquest is a story of unimaginable heroism on all three sides, Aztec, Spainards and their Native Allies. And a story that was going to take place enevitably. I am for telling the story in Cinema.
2. The majority of the Aztec/Mexica Empire did not engage in this, especially the smaller tribes.
3. It was the Aztec ruling class/government doing the sacrifices.
4. The U.S. used to have public hangings, which you could say they were sacraficed for "justice"
5. We Americans would not want the furture to judge us based on what our government or ruling class did, i.e. torture, bombing innocent. It is not reflective of our culture in general.
1. So it is OK to cut someone's heart out if you capture them in War?
2. The majority of tribal groups did sacrifice.
3. Mexico has always been a land of the ruling class and the "peasants". Not sure why? The Spainish aristocracy just replaced the Native aristrocracy. What they need is a expanding middle class. The USA should help.
4. There is a difference between a trial by jury / lawful sentence and a human sacrifice.
5. "Torture" from the French word meaning to torment, just for fun.
But calling her a traitor is ignoring the fact that the Noble Class of the Aztec Empire deserved it! They were oppressing all of the other smaller Native American tribes in Mexico. Why is she singled out? It is because she is a woman? There were thousands of tribal warriors that joined the hand full of Spanairds to overthrough Tenochtitlan. THOUSANDS OF WARRIORS FROM MEXICAN TRIBES THAT KILLED THOSE OF THE AZTEC EMPIRE. So they aren't called traitors but she is? thats my point or question
There may have been heroism on both sides but one side is depicted more often then the other. We always read in the textbooks about Cortez's glorious victory over the Mexica Empire. What they leave out are heroes of the Mexica Empire my favorite being Cuauhtemoc. It would be nice if Ron could depict this movie fairly. Be nice if it wasn't from a European POV for once kind of tired of seeing other peoples history told from the same standpoint.
Cortez could not have conquered without the help of other peoples that were sick and tired of Aztec rule. The clash of cultures was inevitable. There was great heroism on both sides. I am sorry, but time can not be reversed. I hope the story is told truthfully, useing the best record written of the events, by William Presscott (1843). Cutting humans hearts out is a poor basis for a religion.
Can you name one instance when Mexica ripped peoples' hearts out? Just to let you know that is almost impossible. On the other hand all of the burnings at the stake and torturing of "heretics" done by the Catholic Church has been documented. Anyone who disagreed with them was put to death. Talk about a poor basis for a religion.
I have read so many books of that era nahuatl and spanish and english and the concensus was malinali as she was known translated for a marooned officer on the coast of yucatan, what the officer learned was the maya language and she (malinali) spoke that language and also nahuatl, therefore to cortez she was extremely valued cortez thus could understand my people. from malinali to the officer to cortez. I think it is called transliteration.
What I find incredibly disturbing about the release of "The Serpent and the Eagle" is that Cortés and his goons set in motion the sex trade of indigenous girls all over the Americas. Stating that there was a romance between Malinche and Cortés is basically condoning the trafficking of modern indigenous Mexican girls. Each year about 5,000 of them are sold to brothels. Hmmm sound familiar, 12-15 year old Malinche? First victim of this cruel trade! RIP Malinche
Another FALSE account of the genocide of Aztec people. Instead, it's a love story between Cortez the rapist, and Malinali, the 12 yr old child sex slave.... I'm still gonna watch it just for the scenery. Even THIS should look good on Blu-Ray.
Finally "a film that shows the truth about the dishonorable way that European invaders like Cortes dominated our civilizations by terrorizing our people."
wrong info. malinche not aztec, nahuat speaking, yes. not given by aztec tribe. it was a mayan tribe( she spoke maya as well, hence her value) the spanish were cruel, the aztecs were cruel(human reality) history is not americans' strong cup of tea.
I am looking forward to this movie. How many americans are actually, even remotly acquainted with Mexico's and Spanish imperial history. This would be an ecxellent forum for discussion of all sorts: the current condition of indians in latin america, anglo america and the legacy of colonialism and racism. As far as Malinche, she was a slave, what choice did she really have. The choices she did make made sense. many indians saw the Spaniards as liberators. Cortez didn't love M.
I also find it interesting that La Malinche, was not indeed the lover of the genocidal Hernán Córtes but rather the sex slave, as were sooo many other Nican Tlacan women after the "conquest"
THANK YOU FOR RELEASING THIS!!! I'm a white person of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry and I believe strongly in the rights of indigenous peoples, which include prevention of modern genocides and human trafficking (occurring as a result of the Native American genocide, from Canada, to the what's now the USA, all throughout what is now called Latin America.
looking around me is see the wealth that was stolen from our land... the infestation of a people whom do not belong... i see european invaders, i see europeans trying to relate to an extinct tribe, a tribe that perished in its own ignorance its incapibility to establish an civilization, a society, just immigrants passing through and leaving... that is what i see when i look around the ignorance of eurocentrics!!!

like i said before we built the cities, we cultivated the land, we invented agriculture, we did thing that the socalled first could not even accomplish(to busy living in caves i guess) what ever it maybe they never established anything here in the americas, just passing by...a failed migration, hahaha but its still funny how eurocentrics think these days

Europeans in America: Who Was Here First?
According to the Smithsonian Institute there is compelling evidence that Europeans arrived and settled in the Americas before others did. Estimates are that the Europeans arrived approximately 19000 BC while Asians arrived approximately 13000 BC. Uh, you do the math. ;D
This was reported by PBS, MSNBC and Scientific American.
your people failed in achieving anything on this land, you starved to death bec you weren't able to invent agriculture... we the amerindians did all this, we built civilizations, we built cities, we cultivated the land this makes us indegenous to this land our thousands of years of history makes us indegenous, those first are not your ancestors they are extinct and have been before amerindians arrived...
hahaha ditto, remember those whom came first where australiod/pacific islanders pennon woman, luzia, where here first and their mitochondrial dna has already been matched to present day tribes... but it was fun anyways... fyi pennon woman and luzia are not caucasian but australiod/ainu and are currently the oldest skelatal remains in america... there goes our trump card hahaha...
hahaha those who do not like us, those who do not believe in diversity, those who are suppremist thinkers!!! should all be deported to their own peoples inhabitants where they may be free to live their dream as they rant about it... "mestizo" a racist term used to label the rape of our people, mixed or not if they can love another human being despite the color of thier skin are all welcomed in my book...that includes white mexicans.
"Diversity" dictates that one never identify the central facts of public life, thus ensuring that problems become insoluble crises, and that public policy debate be replaced with a combination of silence, euphemisms, non sequiturs, outright lies and race-baiting.
cwp91206 you try to sound so Scientific. the native people on this land have been here going on over 50'000 years acourding to archoligists we develped agriculture science reading and more we were the domesticaters of corn we had large cities towns vilages while your ancesters were running in caves are elders don't speak of asian desendency
dam right, we are not asians just like europeans are not africans... what these idiots don't realize is that we the black/brown amerindians have built cities/civilizations/culture ect...here on these continents. eurocentrics will use the word asian descent to give us a sense of not belonging, to make us feel that we have no more than a right then they do, all bull shit... we are aboriginals whether they like it or not...
we are not asians, like asians are not african, like europeans are not africans, like australiods are'nt asian... lmfao bec you do not get it... you would rather laugh then realize the truth...
this ideallogical tred under me tells us to pratice what we preach he must be a go along get along type of guy but its convenunt for him to talk shit and degrag a race we never said we were perfect let me give an example. you euorpeans for the last 500 years claim to be peaceful loving people those are the years of resistance to genocide and opperstion and silenceing are culture what fucking right do you have to call us hypocrites?
Hey, Mexicans, since you claim to be the great champions of the indigenous prove you really mean it. Determine the tribal identity of all your people and the historical lands they occupied. Then have them return to those lands and remain there. Then dissolve the Mexican government. This way they will all have their land back and everything will be put the way it was.
That's what you want. Set an example. You first. Until you practice what you preach you're just bullshitters and hypocrites.
That is exactly what has been happening since 1994. im proud to say its going well. so well in fact that other indigenous people worldwide are joining the circle. its happening everywhere. just because you are blind to it ... doesnt mean its not the truth. PS & FYI: when the white brothers arrived there were NO AZTECS and Motecuhzoma was not a "KING", "SUPREME RULER", or "HIGH PRIEST". he was "TLATOANI" .. ""VOICE OF THE PEOPLE". educate mijo! y no seas mamon.
revolution does not happen like that...we are not war mongers!!! our first step is to educate our people.
mexicans are not indegenous to mexico archealogist, anthropologist ect... have already recogized the anasazi to be aztlan the mexican and other western indians home land. in 2060 we will be the majority, id say thats an silent victory!!!

Stupid raza whiners. Its already in post-production and there is nothing you can do to stop its release. The people want this film - we NEED this film to stop the Hispanic-bashing in this country. We will enjoy this movie and it will make millions. Our heroic Spaniard ancestors will be exalted.
Oh, please. The spaniards were nothing without the thousands of native allies. Even the Tlaxcallans could have easily destroyed the Spaniards, and they came close to doing it. In the end they decided to side with these pussies
You miss the point which is why the others sided with the Conquistadors. Obviously, they didn't see the Asstecs as the little darlings the Tan Klan tries to portray them as. Since they were there and you weren't, their view is much more credible than yours.
The history speaks for itself QUATLATAS! The Spaniards conquered an entire continent with 800 men. It doesn't even matter. Almost all of you share Spanish blood, therefore you descend from them. You should not be ashamed of that. Embrace your Spanish/Mexica dual heritage. Stop being a goddamn vendido, selling out our powerful Hispanic forefathers! Disgraceful!
hahaha 800, try a couple hundred thousand of natives allies, try small pox, our real conquerers are our own people and the desease that your ancestors brought over... theres nothin special about that... your hispanic forefathers are nothin but racist, greedy, war mongers, genocidal, cowards... i see your name is "Mexikkklan" you must rep the "white" mexiKKKans.
yes, more illogical circular non senecal arguements from idiots of the kkk... our freedom and liberation is just, my "racism" bec i wish all hateful suppremist thinkers like cwp91206 to go back to their own country bec they are afraid of multicultralism, bec they fear indigo peoples learning and pushing for great potiential... my only misery is being blind to evil itself and my light is exposing that evil as it is. and so i will repeat your own words; YOUR racism will only bring ur life misery
multiculturalism does not belong. its only destroys society. go practice your defunct-ass Aztec bullshit in Mexico. its does not belong here. You are an extinct relic.
lol, havn't you heard!!! the anaszi civilivation is the aztlan homeland. the "mexica" and others like chichimec, huichol, and others are all descendents of the ansazi people before the mograted south and west of this continent... so i am where i belong, if any culture does not belong it is european cultures. what are euro cultures? spanish, english italian, french, german ect. you are right it does destroy society so take your "defuct-ass" back to europe where you belong fuckin backstabing pilgrim
If heroic means "marked by courage and daring", Cortez was certainly that. Yeah, the Spanish were cruel and bloodthirsty. The Mexica were conquerors too and no less bloodthirsty. They were primarily defeated by the city-states they had enslaved and that rallied around Cortez to enable his conquest. And what a superstitious goof-ball Moctezuma was to have let it happen! Sorry, Mexica Movement, I'll be bummed about the historical inaccuracies too.
i guess it is courage that led cortes and the spanish to commit genocide, ethnocide, slavery, rape, and theft. how very convieniant you gloss over these crimes and simply use the word "courage." it was not those city states that defeated us. it was the europeans use of smallpox that brought us down. read a book or two and apply some logic.
Like books by Prescott, Thomas, Fehrenbach, Paz, Díaz del Castillo, Sahagún, Torquemada, Vaillant, Landa or Vasconcelos? Maybe Cortez' letters? Get a grip, Goya, maybe your ancestors were Tlaxcala or Totonac and not Mexica and they were victors. Like, the Mexica didn't have slaves? The blessings of modern Mexico have roots in the best of both cultures but both cultures had unspeakable cruelties too.
so what if my ancestors were. the invasion of our lands by europeans has been equally destructive to all Nican Tlaca. Blessings of modern mexico? fuck modern mexico, it is a european colonial squatter, where Nican Tlaca live the third world, while europeans live the first. to equate the flaws of both peoples is to excuse the crimes of one against the other. the theft, rape, genocide, etc is not exucsable just because both had flaws. American Holocaust by David Stannard
It's interesting that you say "IF" heroic means marked by courage & daring, 'cause it certainly doesn't! Heroic means: at your own inconvenience, risk &/or sacrifice, saving others from major harm, or greatly enhancing their blessings. And Cortez CERTAINLY WAS NOT THAT! We use the same words, but conquest & slavery refer to very different institutions & levels of burdens upon the person subjected to them, from one culture to the other; & other slavery, like that of U.S., was even more inhumane.
oh you mean the superstitious theoracies od europe that lead to witch hunts and the inquisition? the ones that killed up to 100 million of our people? that stole our lands? who are you to say we are better off now or were inferior to european society? our Theology was not superstitious at all, it was a scientific understanding of Our Creator. We were more advanced than europeans in many many things in and a time after 1492.
Reconquest nonsense.
To hear their ignorant crap everything not Europe is theirs.
Lose wars then snivel to try to reclaim your loses plus some.

Nope, according to the Smithsonian they first people here were Europeans. So that makes 1492 payback.

So when are white Mexicans and Latin Americans going back to Europe?
If white Latin Americans don't have to go, then North Americans don't have to either. :P
Er, Mestizos, which part of you are you sending back to Europe? :D
cwp91206 2 years ago
hahaha those who do not like us, those who do not believe in diversity, those who are suppremist thinkers!!! should all be deported to their own peoples inhabitants where they may be free to live their dream as they rant about it... "mestizo" a racist term used to label the rape of our people, mixed or not if they can love another human being despite the color of thier skin are all welcomed in my book...that includes white mexicans.
1racehumanrace 2 years ago
"Diversity" dictates that one never identify the central facts of public life, thus ensuring that problems become insoluble crises, and that public policy debate be replaced with a combination of silence, euphemisms, non sequiturs, outright lies and race-baiting.

this ideallogical tred under me tells us to pratice what we preach he must be a go along get along type of guy but its convenunt for him to talk shit and degrag a race we never said we were perfect let me give an example. you euorpeans for the last 500 years claim to be peaceful loving people those are the years of resistance to genocide and opperstion and silenceing are culture what fucking right do you have to call us hypocrites?
babygme 2 years ago
Hey, Mexicans, since you claim to be the great champions of the indigenous prove you really mean it. Determine the tribal identity of all your people and the historical lands they occupied. Then have them return to those lands and remain there. Then dissolve the Mexican government. This way they will all have their land back and everything will be put the way it was.
That's what you want. Set an example. You first. Until you practice what you preach you're just bullshitters and hypocrites.
cwp91206 2 years ago

1racehumanrace 2 years ago
For you "we were here first" wing nuts, see my playlist and the links I include with it-
Europeans in America: Who Was Here First?
According to the Smithsonian Institute there is compelling evidence that Europeans arrived in the America before others did. Estimates are that the Europeans arrived approximately 19000 BC while Asians arrived approximately 13000 BC. Uh, you do the math. ;D
This was reported by PBS, MSNBC and Scientific American.

Stupid raza whiners. Its already in post-production and there is nothing you can do to stop its release. The people want this film - we NEED this film to stop the Hispanic-bashing in this country. We will enjoy this movie and it will make millions. Our heroic Spaniard ancestors will be exalted.
MexiKKKlan 2 years ago
Oh, please. The spaniards were nothing without the thousands of native allies. Even the Tlaxcallans could have easily destroyed the Spaniards, and they came close to doing it. In the end they decided to side with these pussies
QUATLATAS 2 years ago
They pwned the Asstecs. Ha ha.
You miss the point which is why the others sided with the Conquistadors. Obviously, they didn't see the Asstecs as the little darlings the Tan Klan tries to portray them as. Since they were there and you weren't, their view is much more credible than yours.
cwp91206 2 years ago
The history speaks for itself QUATLATAS! The Spaniards conquered an entire continent with 800 men. It doesn't even matter. Almost all of you share Spanish blood, therefore you descend from them. You should not be ashamed of that. Embrace your Spanish/Mexica dual heritage. Stop being a goddamn vendido, selling out our powerful Hispanic forefathers! Disgraceful!
MexiKKKlan 2 years ago
Man, you don't even know what or who I am.
QUATLATAS 2 years ago
hahaha 800, try a couple hundred thousand of natives allies, try small pox, our real conquerers are our own people and the desease that your ancestors brought over... theres nothin special about that... your hispanic forefathers are nothin but racist, greedy, war mongers, genocidal, cowards... i see your name is "Mexikkklan" you must rep the "white" mexiKKKans.

Your racism will only make your life more miserable than it already is.
MexiKKKlan 2 years ago
yes, more illogical circular non senecal arguements from idiots of the kkk... our freedom and liberation is just, my "racism" bec i wish all hateful suppremist thinkers like cwp91206 to go back to their own country bec they are afraid of multicultralism, bec they fear indigo peoples learning and pushing for great potiential... my only misery is being blind to evil itself and my light is exposing that evil as it is. and so i will repeat your own words; YOUR racism will only bring ur life misery
1racehumanrace 2 years ago
multiculturalism does not belong. its only destroys society. go practice your defunct-ass Aztec bullshit in Mexico. its does not belong here. You are an extinct relic.
MexiKKKlan 2 years ago
lol, havn't you heard!!! the anaszi civilivation is the aztlan homeland. the "mexica" and others like chichimec, huichol, and others are all descendents of the ansazi people before the mograted south and west of this continent... so i am where i belong, if any culture does not belong it is european cultures. what are euro cultures? spanish, english italian, french, german ect. you are right it does destroy society so take your "defuct-ass" back to europe where you belong fuckin backstabing pilgrim

6801ebelleview 2 years ago
i guess it is courage that led cortes and the spanish to commit genocide, ethnocide, slavery, rape, and theft. how very convieniant you gloss over these crimes and simply use the word "courage." it was not those city states that defeated us. it was the europeans use of smallpox that brought us down. read a book or two and apply some logic.
Goyathalay 2 years ago 2
Like books by Prescott, Thomas, Fehrenbach, Paz, Díaz del Castillo, Sahagún, Torquemada, Vaillant, Landa or Vasconcelos? Maybe Cortez' letters? Get a grip, Goya, maybe your ancestors were Tlaxcala or Totonac and not Mexica and they were victors. Like, the Mexica didn't have slaves? The blessings of modern Mexico have roots in the best of both cultures but both cultures had unspeakable cruelties too.
6801ebelleview 2 years ago
so what if my ancestors were. the invasion of our lands by europeans has been equally destructive to all Nican Tlaca.
Goyathalay 2 years ago 2
It's interesting that you say "IF" heroic means marked by courage & daring, 'cause it certainly doesn't! Heroic means: at your own inconvenience, risk &/or sacrifice, saving others from major harm, or greatly enhancing their blessings. And Cortez CERTAINLY WAS NOT THAT! We use the same words, but conquest & slavery refer to very different institutions & levels of burdens upon the person subjected to them, from one culture to the other; & other slavery, like that of U.S., was even more inhumane.

i wonder if white people would cry racism if an epic dramatic movie was made about the truth of european terrorism
i think the minutekkklan got butthurt when some crime show showed them as violent, but then they actually are, so it goes back to them being liars
Goyathalay 2 years ago 3
Depends on the movie. If the Mexica Movement made it, then it probably would be racist.

if Mexica Movement made an epic drama, it would tell the truth of European crimes; a fair and balanced view on history :D

oh you mean the superstitious theoracies od europe that lead to witch hunts and the inquisition? the ones that killed up to 100 million of our people? that stole our lands? who are you to say we are better off now or were inferior to european society? our Theology was not superstitious at all, it was a scientific understanding of Our Creator. We were more advanced than europeans in many many things in and a time after 1492.
