  • Hmm. I like Liu Huan's Nangun more.

  • man wish i can come to one of these wushu competition someday O_o

  • He looks less lanky since 2005.

  • stupidly high gainer

  • is that a compliment? I don't understand the context of "stupid", as it extermely or insanely high, or like "unnecessarily" high or something. pc out!

  • stupidly as in like insanely crazy high.

  • you know it! :)

  • Sick broadsword form is sick. Somehow the broadsword competitors seem to be the ones who've lost the least flavor because of Nandu. Nanquan suffers the worst, sadly.

  • Sir, you are wrong. ALL The broadsword practitioners this year have TOO much spinning, no wrapping, and have the same form as lu yong xu, or zhang kun rong, or both. Some of them have the exact same form. Zheng lei shi of fujian, ou xia sheng of guang xi, and huang guang yuan of gunagdong are not a bad line up. Look who's top of changquan, zqj, does he even have a hook hand in his form?

  • I haven't seen this year's stuff, you know. And what I've seen are mostly the good ones, like the ones you've named, so my viewpoint is biased in that sense. But in general it's rarer to get good flavored Nanquan with Nandu than Broadsword, that's what I mean.

  • Totally disagree, here's a few good modern day athletes: zhou jing, wu cai bo, ou xia sheng, huang guang yuan, wu nan, zheng lei shi, song lin, li neng miao (to a certain extent) li fu kuai, + a few new athletes from guangxi and yun nan and zhe jiang. You must be crazy! this is the best nanquan year i've seen since 2004. You must be watching too many xie fu yan and wang peng cheng videos. Nanquan is betta than ever! :) haha...

  • Lol. I'll check them out.

Modern Nanquan turns me off, because I still prefer the old school people like Ka Li, He Qiang, Yang Shi Wen, Huang Chunni, etc. The Modern people just look like they're waving their arms.

But it's nice to talk to someone with a differing viewpoint. I'll check them out to see what you like about them. (:

  • Yeah, i'm a fan of those guys too, but you can't ignore some modern day pple, even in 2001, gals like Wang Lin of guangdong and chen yang ping were good, dang hui ru from shang hai, or zhang ya qi of 2005, or mao ya qi of zhe jiang, i hate lin fan of fujian. guang dong womens' have Wu Yi yi who's stepping up too. Wushuzilla has some good early 2000's women practice. pc out!

  • yeah in the beginning of his form. The empty stance/ xu bu. he does the palm hook hand thing. Idk unless he changed his form.

  • the point is that changuan is way more watered down than nanquan, not whehter or not there's a hook hand ya know ? If you took body turn smash floor, hammer fists, weird poses, slap kicks, followed by drop stance smash floor, pple doing changquan would not know what to do!

  • I totally agree with you about modern changquan, yuan xiaochao makes me gag every time. To much flailing, cq pretty much died after the 80's.

Watching a zhao changjun or wang zhijun is good therapy after too much modern daoshu.

I don't agree about Lin Fan though... I guess we are sworn enemies ; )

    Thanks for the videos!

  • Come on man! Did you miss the 90's or something? The 90's had: Liu Hai Bo, Wu Gang, Di Guang Wan, Ding Wei, Jiang Ban Jun, Sheng Yu, Lu Song Ting, Yuan Xin Dong, Balding Shanghai Guy, Dong Hui, Tang Kang Min... some real talent! You oughta look some of them up! The 90's were like the 80's on plyos and steroids! Technique meets athleticism, it wasn't until the entry of required nandu in 1996 that quality fell off a little, and then official nandu in 2004 that wushu stumbled a little bit.

  • 哈哈,you have me there, I really did miss the 90's, I definitely recognize it had some amazing athletes and I was seriously generalizing, just wanted to point out that after the ~90's, wushu wasn't what it used to be, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

  • Nah man! 2000's had Yang yu hong (only in 2004), an xiao wei of jilin, wei jian sort of, zhao jie, hou jian of sichuan (who's in this vid doing broadsword), he jing de (dao gun), cao jing of shandong, Wei Ya Lei (gunshu), zhao zhi guang (shandong), zhao kun, shi kun, shao chang jun, wu di, xu ming hu, wang xiao na, lu xiao lei, bai mao qiang... but most of the athletes are only good in 1 or 2 events vs everything like before. pc!

  • sorry bee.. the broadsword guy isn't zhao jie.. i think they're calling like "wang something something"

    but yea not too sure

i've seen him before tho somewhere and yea he is veyr good

    thanks for the post =D

  • this is the same guy

    watch?v=seZrm19zhU4

he is definitely not zhao jie .... but yhea he is amazing :D

  • got so much better...

  • Yeah I saw this nangun vid, it is pretty awesome. That gainer is just ridiculous. I don't know if I think its the best though, I have to watch them all again to see.

That is a damned fine broadsword form though.

  • nah, the new set of athletes and styles all favor fancy moves, fast athletic moves and moves, and a lot of combinations, but most of them don't use REAL POWER in their moves (check out Wu Nan in the other nanquan vid i posted). This guy, ou xia sheng, zhou jing and sichuan's li fu kuai put real power, oh yeah and Li Jin Jia (big nose), but wu cai bo, huang yuan, and even zheng lei shi were a step behind speed/power wise unfortunately. I don't like when atlhetes do block or strikes but no power
