I may not have liked this movies as far as its story & acting are concerned, though it had won several awards for other aspects. The scenic beauty was quite great. Truely one thing cannot be denied & stands out, it reveals the true genius in John Barry in its sound track. You won't get any better serene musical theme than this. Simply loved this theme & will do it forever.
As usual i cry everytime i hear this peace of amazing music same with theme from Pearl Harbour most beautiful music the angels in heaven have heard :)
This music was performed under the funeral of my belowed wife throuhgout 42 years of marriage. Crying when writing this. It brings back so much of emotions and memories as she and I met at the age of 14, and now she died the 21. of august 2011, almost reaching the age of 63, from braincancer. So I have encountered this little piece of poem:
The price you pay for love is sorrow. Tom Liljeroth, Norway.
I know this is terrible, but I went 41 years of my life without seeing this movie. I felt that it was probably dumb and only idiots like it. Well I decided to buy it at Walmart for 5 bucks and watched it. I was blown away, and I'll admit to the fact that I cried. Probably one of the finest movies ever made.
listen to this flying into Texas and the view from above just moved me to tears knowing what we did to get what we have and knowing also those who have tried many times to take it away.
Brilliant John Barry at his best. Listen to his haunting music for the film - Somewhere in time - He composed it after losing both of his parents and was feeling low...
@SanDhampir I bought the blue ray version for my step father. We watched it for about the hundreth time. For the hundreth time he cried while watching it.
@tinman24601 i still have the VHS, and later on, my dad brought the DVD. i remember it scared the crap outta me as a kid, but it wasn't until years later i recrognized it with his acting and storylines, and dont gt me started on the soundtrack ^^b
this was played today at my nephews funeral as a collection of pictures of him was shown. i doubt i will ever hear this song again without thinking of him.
The best western ever. One of few which shows the reality. We murdered and destroyed a whole culture and founded our own states. This film shows that the Natives were not only savages, I guess they were much better humans than we today.
Beautiful movie and beautiful score. It so tragic that this movie is fiction for the most part in regards to the fact that most europeans and americans didn't behave the way John Dunbar did to the native peoples of the earth.
Beautiful movie and beautiful score - it so tragic that this is purely fiction for the most part and that more Europeans didn't behave more like John Dunbar.
i was just a lil kid too when i saw this masterpiece for the first time... i cried a lot and fell in love with the natives culture and the pure, wide land.
It is a fantastic theme, did you see this masterpiece in theaters as a kid too? i was 9 years old when i saw it and one of my first westerns i saw. Costner deserved everything even if Goodfellas lost but both are great films from 1990. You should check out Broken Arrow (1950 with Jimmy Stewart).
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i saw this one in theaters as a kid and loved it even though it was very long and kind of depressing. This film certainly deserved the best picture oscar. Broken Arrow is a great film too. Jimmy Stewart is one of my all time favorite actors.
John Barry recently died and how sad that he did....he has been one of my favorite composers for many years. Dances With Wolves, Out of Africa, Indecent Proposal and so many more. His music reaches in and just grabs your heart. I think you might have to be made of stone to not get emotional when you listen to his music.
It amazes me how one man can be so talented.....every piece of music written just for "Dances With Wolves" are absolutely beautiful.....how can a guy be so talented.....John Barry was one of the best composers that ever wrote a note...!!!
When it comes to film composer greats, John Barry's Dance With Wolves is as good as it gets, especially when it comes to film composers who romance their audience with their timeless music.
One of the best movies of all time. The music, the landscape, the characters - it's all great. Believe it or don't, but I watched the movie yesterday, and shaved my mustache like Kevin Costner in the beginning of the movie.
@chrisvscrispychicken American rednecks. Is this what morons on the internet like to do? Blame the US for everything even their countries own crimes...lol
This is my favourite movie and i had to learn some of the music on piano. I am currently working on tutorials for this soundtrack if anybody is interested have a look at my channel.
I think this movie (and the beauty of the music) should remind us not to take sides. Even though it seems like Dunbar does, it's not sides he is choosing. He followed simplicity and beauty, along with truth and justice; not the kind set by cold logic, but by love... lol, this is coming from a scientist =( I think there is a John Dunbar in all of us, and that some of us act on it and some don't. A really nice movie!!!
This song was played during a the news broadcast (off and on for about 13 days), as they showed video of an officer down police procession and of special memories displayed of the officer at the memorial service. Was so moving!!
The officer's first name was John (John's Theme) and the name he went by was "Kevin". My heart aches every time I hear this song. (he was my 26 year old son)
@frances70gram So sorry about your loss but I do not like cops so to hell with him and all his butt buddies. He surly did something wrong to get him self dead stupid cop!!!
@frances70gram Aw, even seeing your post made me really feel this song even more. I'm sorry about your loss. :( This is an amazing soundtrack, and I'm sure it fit very well. Such beautiful music.
As for Mrdumbassmf1, he's probably about 12 years old and doesn't know a thing...so don't mind his immature remark.
@Kagome811 Thank you Kagome811. Kevin was a very special person I realize some people are insensitive, that's okay - - Amazing how people's character shows up on the internet. I can ignore the immature remark
@frances70gram Very sorry to hear of your loss. This song is sad enough but to apply it to your son is difficult. But it is a gentle and beautiful song and may your memories be gentle and beautiful of your son.
@frances70gram Im sorry about your loss...I love this movie, the music and everything...And don't worry about silly remarks concerning your son...Your son was a cop...and without cops there would be anarchy...so even though I never had the privilege and the honor of meeting your son...Im pretty sure he was a hero...like most cops are!
I enjoyed the movie until it broke the Hitchcock rule " never kill any one the audience cares about" Once they shot the wolf the movie just went downhill.Great music anyway.
@generalcircle Just an opinion.Hitchcock movies vs. Costner. It is only preference in movie making style.I just thought the wolf aspect gave the movie more draw. The story line is not Costner''s fault.Imagine if they killed off the Predator half way though the movie who would be interested in watching the rest of it or any movie.
A very memorable piece of music from a very good movie. It really captured the majestic feel of the great American plains. Makes me wish there was more of that beautiful landscape around.
I love this theme. It makes me want to sit in the middle of the great plains in the middle of nowhere with nobody around to enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
I think Avatar owes itself more to Broken Arrow (1950) than DWW since Cameron grew up with BA, if you watch that movie you'll see they are the same. Even BA influenced DWW
