3 things:
1. The pyro before he put his "uniform" on looked a lot more like a heavy
2. He was wearing blue, but he was a red pyro (not so important)
3. Why does anyone care what the pyro is? The pyro is an It.

The pyro isn't a girl. Just because Valve said "girl" doesn't mean he is a girl. They were poking fun at the situation. Same with the purse. That was used to smuggle his shotgun and ammo into the battlefield. Work? HE'S ALMOST ALWAYS AT THE BATTLEFIELD.
