My sister used to suck her thumbs like that when she was a little girl and carrying around something smooth like fabric to put on her face. I thought might be to comfort her. But since I saw Angelina Jolie's child suck her thumbs and Linus on this cartoon, both of them are carried blankets, I'm wondering why people have had behaviour like this.
