Tbh i agree he can sometimes dance stiff, but, is a very competent dancer and can hold his own against the couple you have mentioned but does use rhythms and musicality to his advantage with his creativeness that you see in his routines.
As mentioned before about Smagin/Heron, They deserved their placings however, at international competitions (IDSF) they were heavily undercut pushing them back down the order. You can say they were pushed, but they did deserve it none the less.
watch?v=cot0sXyeYCk&p=C6D7AB04242D0395&playnext=1&index=4 Valentin iks great really great, but is not able yet to create these movements in the slow part.
And like I told you in another video. The video you linked where Neil dances to slow Jive. Guess what? He's not able to recreate that movement in competition either. What Valentin offers especially in the Jive compared to Neil is tighter package with above head and shoulders footwork and speed and dynamics and much more polish.
@ aceyblade: I completely agree with you about the finals. Kirill and Elvira deserved a place there, and they might even not have ended in 6th place as well. Smagin and Heron really were final worthy, and some judges like Gaynor Fairweather will not lose their credibility but I hope the IDSF will do something about this.
UK Open is not IDSF event as far as I'm aware. They can't do anything about it. And really, IDSF opens generally have so many random non-qualified judges in their panels it's a bit sickening. (Hello there Mr.Professor of Meterology who has had nothing to do with dance in the last 10 years). I wish I was kidding.
Also, when you look at some of the marks from last year's UK open and check what some judges gave Slavik/Hanna you must wonder whose dancing they were actually watching. Those judges in my eyes lost all credibility. There's no chance in this reality they should've placed first in _any_ dance.
@nawaymahalin: they made a boycott for the international competitions in England because of all the English judges. They place the English couples way higher than the other. Take Neil Jones and Ekatarina Sokolova, normally they would end up in the top 48 but since they started dancing for England they suddenly made it into the finals of Blackpool!
Oh, yes. It's an absolute travesty they are being placed so high in the English competitions. All kudos to their dancing, they have very lovely quality about them, but they do not belong into the final. There were so many great couples who were so much deserving the spot in the final with their dancing (Kirill / Elvira, f.ex.).
One must wonder how long the English judges can do this without losing their credibility. Smagin/Heron's placements few years back could actually be justified, but this couple... No, just no.
Neil Jones and Ekaterina Sokolova totally deserve their placing no matter what. Even if they dance for England, they have so much more quality and personality than you may think!!!
At the UK, 3 judges had him first in all 5, you can say it was in England, but unlike continental adjudicating, when it comes to big competitions, politics means fuck all.
If Russia are banning Silde and Zaitsev from Blackpool, I think Neil, with a dam good kick up the ass, has a good chance to win!
I've seen our won national champions beat him in an IDSF competition and they never made it even to semifinals in UK. Now you're even telling me there were some placing them first. Good god. The English judges have always promoted the couples representing England regardless of competition but that is way too much.
And tell me if you can, with a straight face, say that Jones/Sokolova
- are faster
- have more body movement
- are better grounded and stronger
than the Danish, Moldovian and American couple? It's appalling to watch that final. I thought Jones had made a lot of progress to warrant at least the final position, but good grief. There's not a male dancer as stiff as him in the semifinals even!
Yeah, everybody except the guys who actually use their backs look stiff on those videos. Neil is not one of them. It's very two dimensional, much like Malitowski's dancing although he's gotten a lot better at it over the years. On top of that there's a lot of eyebrow raising coreography, such as the two bars spent in rumba where he practically stands still in a position which remind me more of a junior or youth paso doble routine than an adult finalist routine.
They indeed did, but they were not the only couples that made a boycott to the UK open, almost all the Russian couples did. And they will make a boycott to Blackpool too. My teacher told me, she teaches them too. :)
She is so elegant. Ive seen a lot of girls who have really severe dresses, hair and makeup but Anna always goes for a classy look. Also, its nice to see a girl who has such a feminine physique without muscles popping out all over the place.
Too bad the majority of the professional judges disagreed with your opinion and marked them first instead of fifth, eh? That's five judges out of nine marking them first in four to five dances. That could've been six out of nine if it wasn't for a certain judge judging her own couple in this final, but we all know a judge in such position would never mark her own couple down.

More musicality or rhythm than Valentin?
Hard to tell if you're being serious or not.

Simply put, no. He is not more musical or rhythmical than Valentin.
And he's the only one in the semifinal who looks that stiff.
