@akaknocksville No, but I googled it. Looks like that only exists in Commiefornia. I assure you here in VA and any other state I've lived, worked, or carried in via reciprocity when I open carry, it's loaded! If not you might as well carry a bag of hammers to throw at people.

What if he paid his bill, left an appropriate tip and then went home to watch his favorite TV show? We can't let decent, law abiding people do things like this. It's terrible.
What always comes to my mind about this issue, is the VT shootings... if just one person could have legally been carrying, that could have stopped it.. this wasn't a Jihad, or a racists killing.. this was a nutcase with a gun.

It's way too late.....states like NY, NJ and Mass don't have the 2nd ammendment right. If the goverment can do 3 states than thy'll find a way to do all 50 states. Americans are giving away their freedom with a smile, soon America will be a Police state where freedom is only a myth.

guns dont kill people....people kill people.
why take guns away from law abiding citizens....guns have 2 enemies rust, and politicians.
"they feel like they need to flaunt their weapons"
I hate reporters/journalists who dramatize, blow out of proportion, or just plain don't research.
The Commonwealth of Virginia is an open carry state. There are no laws in Virginia that prohibit open carry of a gun, except in a few circumstances. "Permit holders" are those with a Concealed Handgun Permit issued by one's local circuit court.
Most gun owners are not wanna-be cops; There just practicing there right... If you don't practice your constitutional right, you lose it...Citizens are just not used to it.
great reply navyguy0115, I gave you a thumbs up for your post, its only these anti- gun idiots that don't want guys were alcohol is served, hey a bar is a great place to drink and have fun, until you get a criminal nut case walking right up there not carrying about the no gun law and then goes on to be a nut case in the bar, so then, wheres you protectin then, oh wait, ya had to leave it behind, cause you weren't allowed to carry, how ironic
In Kentucky guns are not allowed in bars. This does not apply to restaurants that serve alcohol. Guns and alcohol just do not mix so I understand the reason for the thinking on that. Open carry is legel in Kentucky. I have a CCDW mostly because I do not want to call attention to myself. Certainly in certain circumstances I could see myself open carrying.
I don't see why the shopping center would object, it is not going to make less people come, and moreover, it makes for a safer environment. Criminals can be dumb as dirt, but they usually have enought sense of self preservation to not rob a place that is filled with armed patrons.

My point is, just because cops can't get to you in time doen't mean they don't have too. If a cop sees someone hurting you and he walks away because "he has no legal obligation", like some people think he will be in serious trouble with his superiors for not doing his job. A patrol car can only go so fast. Saying a cop has no legal obligation to protect is like saying a fireman has no legal obligation to put out fires.
A cop does not have to protect you....that means if you die 9 miles away you can sue because they didn't protect you. It's what the supreme court says.
A patrol car can only go so fast. I live 10 minutes from the barracks at normal driving speed. When a man called and threatened to come kill us the cops showed up. 45 minutes AFTER the guy had already left. He DID have a gun, but did not pull it out of his pants. when questioned the police said "we had other stuff going on" bull-shit! ive had cops leave off from giving me a ticket because a fire alarm was going off in town. they didnt want to respond
It's already illegal to carry while intoxicated, JUST LIKE IT IS FOR DRIVING. Should you have to turn your car keys in when dining at a place that serves alcohol, "just in case" you decide to drink and drive?
I carry concealed in VA, but when I go into restaurants I have to reveal my firearm to comply with state law. It hasn't caused any problems, but why make me jump through hoops and flash my firearm to patrons when I ALREADY KNOW that its illegal to carry while intoxicated?
You can get one at 18. It just has to be a private sale or gift: not a purchase from a federally licensed dealer. At least, that's the way it is in most states. Not sure where you're located though. The vid above is about Virginia, and that's the way it is here.
I'm under 21, and have a handgun. I can also legally open carry. I just can't get a CHP.
I'm in NoVA, actually. After I posted my comment, I found a forum that said what you just told me, lol. I'm already thinking of a couple places to open carry ;)

alright dude, if they don't have an obligation to protect the public then why do we have them. why do they go to baseball games and patrol areas where there are large amounts of people. they do it to protect the poeple. police officers take an oath when they are appointed that basically states that they will protect the and serve the public. i have several cops in my family and also have some cop friends and they all say the same thing, "to protect and to serve"
@sailor628 Most "law enforcement" have taken protect and serve off their cruisers they have no interest in that. There are no more peace officers they all left long ago and took honor with them. law enforcement today are glorified revenue collecting thugs and nothing more we neither need them nor should we tolerate them!

"...there is no Constitutional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals or madmen." - Bowers v. DeVito, 1982

I have to admit, I did not know that a 1911 needed to have the hammer back to be on safe. I was worried about that til I read the comments.
