  • It's refreshing to see a man doing a diaper video. I will see if I can get my husband to do one when our daughter is about a year old. We've been using cloth since the moment she was born!

  • who can send me some cloth diapers

  • Could you tell me how many pounds/months Isabelle was when you started cloth? I have been using BG 3.0s with my toddler but am trying to figure out what I need to diaper a newborn. I hear it takes a while for them to fit?

  • thank you for this video! I really enjoyed it and received a lot of information as well.

  • What type of detergent do you use for washing the diapers?

  • this is a great video :) I am planning on using cloth diapers on our baby. I wish you can do an update video. Until when did you use cloth diapers? did you use other brand of cloth diapers? Did you encounter any problems like stinky diapers and how did you deal with them? And what brand of detergent would you recommend and what solution did you use for cloth wipes? I really hope you can update us on these :) Thank you!

  • Great video, thanks!!

  • Where did you buy them?

  • Awesome Video..thanks...Very Helpful...

  • I'm not married, nor do I have any children, but I believe it's never too early to take notes on how I want to care for any children I may have. I reconnected with a friend I'd gone to Christian Camp as grade schoolers and she's all about motherhood, breastfeeding, and going green while caring for her own children. So I wanted to see what options I have as possibly a future wife and mother. Appreciate the insight. : )

  • do you put more than one insert in the diaper at night? and how many diapers have you found you need?

  • Great video!!

  • Really helpful vid. Thank you! What solution do you use to wipe baby's bum? Just water?

  • Thanks :-)

We saw some info on using re-usable cloth wipes and many of them have some kind of solution. We frankly found just using some warm water on our cloth wipes worked fine.

To us, not having soapy or other residues seems like the best way to go during the day. This has worked for nearly 2 years for us.

We think that using just water during diaper changes and then having a nice bath with a bit of soap at the end of the day is sufficient.

  • very helpful! Im definitely using cloth diapers once my little one arrives

  • Thank you!

  • I bought a regular diaper pail that I'm going to use for my cloth ones and use a tote to line it. You can toss the tote in the wash too but just not at the same time.

My mindset is money first so the cloths were a must. I've cloth diapered two boys so far and now they come out with all in ones that I can't wait to try.

Thanks for the great informative video. I think I'll get that drying rack. Pretty home you have, too.

  • You can also wash the Imse Vimse liners with the rest of the diapers and reuse them. They will hold up to about 3 washes before falling apart. Of course, we only do this on wet liners (not poopy ones).

We also use a wipe warmer - I know, seems like a bit much. But, it keeps the cloth wipes moist and ready to use. They need to be used with either a store bought or homemade wipe solution, so they remain bacteria free.

  • very informative. thank you so much!

how many diapers do you have/use? our baby is coming home soon (he was 8 weeks early) and we're trying to figure out what we'll need.

    thanks again.

  • We got 30 diapers for our little girl. We're going to try an additional 12 diapers from Kelly's Closet now that we're expecting our second.

Since we will still need to wash every two days (don't want too many dirty diapers hanging around), we're going to get another diaper pail since one baby seems to fill up the diaper pail in 2 days or so.

  • Using baby washcloths as wipes is great. It makes more sense than using disposable ones because cloth wipes can go in the wash with the rest of the diaper. Most cloth diaper companies are selling their own washcloths to use as wipes, which are higher quality, but the simple 12 pks from Wal-Mart do the job much cheaper.

  • Haha, that's exactly what we use as a diaper pail as well.

We've used MotherEase mostly. But are enjoying fitted all-in-one pocket diapers like this now. We use Fuzzibunz right now.

  • emmad, I think I like MotherEase. I just got my first one and it looks great. I've ordered some BumGenius too. How are the MotherEase?

  • I think the MotherEase are great. They're very absorbent. We don't use anything but MotherEase for overnight.

  • emmad, good to know. I'll be experimenting once the baby comes with my different brands and liners.

  • I think your video helped convince me to purchase a drying rack for when our baby comes. We will be using the bumgenius 3.0 pocket diapers as well. This also helped me see that using baby wash cloths are also good for reusable wipes. I was wondering about using them. Thank you so much!

  • How GREAT it is to see a father so active in raising his child!

Love these diapers too so we intend to purchase some for our daughter to try with our first grandchild! :o) Great, Informative video! Thanks so Much!!

  • Great video!

We didn't bother with liners. The first 6 months (before the baby starts eating solids) you can toss all the diapers into the dry pail (solid waste and all) until it is time for wash.

At wash time, I dump the pail into the washing machine. Everything comes out completely clean, we've had no problem and it's really easy. Once baby started solid foods, we were able to just shake the solid (now formed) waste into the toilet.

  • This is what I have heard also and am planning on doing..especially where I exclusively breast feed my children..makes it much better and NO buying extras!:)

  • Thanks so much for your fantastic video! Very helpful and informative!

  • Thank you. This was needed. I wish the manufactures would post this on their website. It's very informative and what most people need to make their decision on switching to cloth diapers. It's a big deal and I was unsure of going "Green" with my diapers until seeing your video.

  • Great Job! Many of my friends thought I was nuts to cloth diaper....but once I showed them my Bum Genius and Fuzzi Bunz they were impressed!

  • This is great! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm due in September and my husband is hesitant to use cloth as we've received negative comments from other parents urging us to use disposable. I can't believe the resistance we get to using cloth. It is better for your baby, better for the environment and cheaper. It's really a no-brainer.

  • I use these diapers as well as fuzzi bunz and I think this a great video for those interested. Great job! Have you ever thought about just buying a diaper sprayer.

  • Great video! I use the itti bitti's - snap in one diapers. They made of bamboo. Very good. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Brilliant! Thank you! I'm expecting my first baby in October and am researching all the various options, and so far, this has been the most informative way of doing it!

  • That was an awesome video! You basically took the scary out of cloth diapers and gave real world, practical information. Thank you so much! Our next baby will be cloth diapered.

  • GREAT video. Thanks so much for posting it. I just ordered a Bum Genius diaper to try them out and this was way more helpful than the company's website. I've been a little overwhelmed so I've been using Seventh Gen disposables, and I feel terrible since I had always planned on using cloth diapers. After watching your video I feel like I'm ready to give it a shot. Thanks again!!

  • thanks for the video. I hope it encourages others to give cloth a try. We also use BG cloth diapers and we LOVE them! We have about 20 diapers. I wash them every 2-3 days. 1 cold water cycle and 1 hot water cycle. I always dry mine in the dryer for 1 hour. I pre "stuff" the diapers when they come out of the dryer. I've bought and used some other one size cloth diapers and have found that I am most happy with the bum genius.

  • Great video. Thanks for posting this!

  • I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. It was so informative & I'm passing it on to my family to show them what I plan on doing once our baby comes. I think it will help my husband feel more comfortable as well!

  • I was wondering how long it takes for the BG diapers to dry the the drying rack and was also wondering where you got your drying rack from?

  • The diapers and inserts dry overnight, but we live in Colorado where the air is pretty dry. (Your milage may vary.)

We got the drying rack from Target, and the covered "diaper pail" from Wal-Mart. We really shopped around to cobble together our strategy, but it really is working great.

At Babies R Us they only have diaper pails and supplies for disposable diapers feeding into the idea that cloth diapers are viewed as "not really a viable option" by current standards.

  • Hi

We got about 30 BG 3.0 for our daughter. That's enough so you can launder the diapers every other night and they have enough time to dry on the rack and for you to put the inserts back in.

The quality of is good. They look like new after about 5 months of use.

Since the investment in pretty high initially (although only equal to a few months of disposables), we expect to be able to use these for our next children.

By the way things look, it should be fine for our next kids.

  • I would love to know how many BG diapers that you have in your stash. Also how often do you wash diapers in your house?

Are your BG holding up? Do you think that they will last through your whole diapering with your child?

    Thanks for the insight!

    D
