Here is a verse that asks Muslims to honor any treaty they signed with the pagans as long as there is a treaty (9:4), and 9:5 says if THEY break the pagans treaty, go fight and kill them.And if they cease,(9:6) then stop the fight. There are 57 Muslim countries and according to "western" sources, there are 12 countries with very low literacy rate and 47 with good to impressive rate of literacy.
