The theme- "Londonderry Air {Danny Boy}"- was arranged by Earle Hagen, working with his then-partner, Herbert Spencer, on the series. Hagen later wrote themes and scores for series that Danny was involved in: "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW", "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW", "THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW", and "GOMER PYLE, U.S.M.C.". Thomas and Leonard eventually produced the final seasons of his series (1962-'64) under their "T&L Productions" banner.
I always thought this theme was annoying, but this extended ending was really cool now that I hear it so many years later. The saxophones at the end really give it the nightclub feel. I noticed the copyright "Marterto Enterprises, Inc. 1960" - He named it after his three children, Marlo (That Girl), Terry, and Tony (Tony helped produced the Golden Girls).
