  • you know, they even look different when they sit, it may look domestic at first when you just look, but there are tell tale signs if you know how to see them, just like with all other wild cats, if you know what to look for you can tell if its wild or not

  • Oh wow all these small species of cats are very beautiful. It's pretty disappointing to hear how endangered they are. Is there anyway we can help contribute to keeping these cats from going extinct?

  • That is so sad! I wish I could do something to help! (to all the wild cats, not just geoffory's cats)

  • Nature never ceases to amaze us! Too bad we have been so disrespectful towards it.

  • animal abusers and selfish owners of wild animals will have their souls burned and suffering in hell for eternity.

  • can u raise them mas pets?

  • @emolover123ify No, all wild cats species make terrible "pets" many of our rescues are former "pets" no matter what you do these animals will always have their wild instincts.

  • @emolover123ify Yes, but it takes a lot of work and shouldn't be attempted lightly.

  • wild cats aren't good pets, but for some reason, when i searched "serval" on youtube, it showed me many pet servals, can anyone please explain that?

  • @Boredology Yes, despite the obvious fact that wild cat species never make good "pets", ignorant, selfish people still feel the need to own cats like servals. They train and "discipline" these cats from a young age and the servals tolerate them or are scared of them. This results in wild cats living in backyards and homes, many cats are abandoned once people realize the mistake they have made or lose interest in the cats, either way the animals are the ones that suffer :(

  • @BigCatRescue Why are you lying? You're just outright lying. You're supposed to be a benign organization, not preying on people's sympathy! Have you even considered how feeding people lies like this results in the distress and death of the animals you're supposedly protecting?

Owners raised, loved, and cared for them from cradle to grave. Think about that when you push for anti-exotic legislation. You don't care about the collateral damage as long as you win. You're a disgrace.

  • @FascistFemale We're not praying on people's sympathy we simply want to end the abuse these animals suffer from and in order to do this, banning the private ownership of these animals is what needs to happen. We need to draw the line somewhere when people are losing their lives to these "pets" every year and these "pets" are wild animals that deserve so much better.

  • As pets Wild animals don't make good pets. What is worng with people?

  • @koala371 uhm news flash ALL pets were wild animals at one time? so wtf are you talking about "make good pets" either you think having pets is wrong all together or you don't have a problem with it? pick one

  • @TheFelixxRevolution, im sorry mate, but it's you who's confused. theres a huge difference between Domesticated lineages / breeds and wild animals. Wild animals can never be pets. Domesticated breeds can be. Wild animals are are not pets, and pets can't survive the wild. it really isn't rocketscience, you don't get a naturally wild animal as a pet, no exceptions.

  • @TheFelixxRevolution Are you stupid? it's called DOMESTICATION and the process takes HUNDREDS of years. Real PETS are animals that have been DOMESTICATED TO LIVE WITH HUMANS for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. That's completely different from a wild animal.

  • I swear I think I saw him (or someone who looked like him) out of the corner of my eye when I last visited. Maybe I'll get to see him up close next time. :)

  • I pray the Geoffrey cat survives- they are beautiful.

  • The only wild animals that should be kept in captivity are animals too injured to survive in the wild, or (stupidly) socialized to humans so that they are a danger to themselves. There is a reason they are known as "wild", no matter their size. Wild animals and humans do not coexist well. Period.

  • Oh wow he is so elegant looking. Funny how different his face looks to that of a domesticated black cat.

  • All cats make bad pets, they are companion animals, not pets. You cannot domesticate a cat, it domesticates it self.

  • He is very pretty for his age

  • I don't want these little cats do disappear x(.

  • he looks like my cat o.0

  • It's a beautiful animal and I'd love to see them doing well in the wild again. Some blame humanity for endangering wild animals. But no, we all don't think alike, for both blessing and the curse of the living things.

  • They look scrunner than a house cat. Small wild cats look a little meaner than house cats but not dangerous. Unless they can bite a finger off I think they would be ok as along as it doesnt destroy their wild population like with monkeys and parrots

  • Hey,that is my cat's name!

  • If some dumb tourist saw the black cat, they'd go pet it, and get the surprise of their life lol! @_@

  • How utterly, completely tragic.

  • thanks for the posts..beautiful black cat..;)

  • I think animelover has no intelligent persuasion skills.

  • I think animelover is an idiot.

  • actually, animelover, they do. the people that work at BigCatRescue, if you'd taken a moment to watch other videos, are trained professionals and indeed have worked with animals for years. they work they do -is- real and the education they have -is real-. I congratulate them on what they're doing for those cats. believe what you want but Big Cats = Bad Pets. they're wild and that's just their nature. arguing won't change that.

  • is the little black cat a domestic black cat?

  • Nope, the geoffroy cat is a wild species of cat, even though they are the same size as a domestic cat :)

  • @BigCatRescue Can they be fully domesticated though? Since they're the same size they're teeth are no more of a threat then a house cat and also a regular house cat can also hunt, so is owning this breed, this species dangerous and untrustworthy around kids? Or...? Just curios. But all said and down this little bad boy is beautiful just absolutely gorgeous.

  • @MasTArrrRR Nope, no wild species of cat can ever be fully domesticated no matter what their size or what you do.

  • @BigCatRescue but don't domestics sometimes when left to them selfs in a remote places adapt in ways similar to wild cats

  • @depravedsinner Yep, this is true.

  • If the Geoffrey cat was on the USS Enterprise, he might get stuck in a Jeffrey's tube.

  • I have never head of this cat! Could you possibly tell me what other species is it most closely related to? Thank you for the insightful video!

  • They are related to the ocelot and margay along with several others, thanks for watching!

  • hey can you fix the volume it goes so low... part way thru esp music is louder than voice...

  • they are sooooooo beautiful!

  • i would love this cute as a pet

  • She may be cute, but Nico is very much a wild cat and would love to scratch and bite you! She's a nightmare to feed!

  • that and you'd be supporting the trade of animals

in other words, you're supporting the taking of cats from they're habitat

  • Oooh she's gorgeous.

  • You should see her at feeding time cutey turns into NASTY!:)

  • No it just turns into nature. This cat in the right hands would be a fine animal to have as a pet. Since technically that is why you have her, you take care of her and she lives in an enviroment that you control.

  • You're very wrong thinking that these cats would make good "pets" I know from having worked around them for years.

  • @BigCatRescue It doesn't surprise me that you ignored the rest of my comment. You say the above yet you keep her as a pet, because you are incapable of listening the first time I will repeat. You feed her, care for her, and she lives in an enviroment that you control. these days not all pets are domestic so don't throw the excuse in there.

In the right hands means that she would have the room she needs to roam around, the person would need experience with wild undomestic animals etc.

  • You have a poor argument, trying to equate domestic pets to animals in captivity

  • How you relate things is like saying all the thousands of animals in all the zoos and safari parks around the world are pets. There's a difference between being an animal caretaker and a pet owner.

  • @BigCatRescue 1. There is not much of a difference. 2. In all of your comments you don't seem to know what your talking about. 3. Some cats that are not naturally domesticated are being sold as pets there fore telling people that they will not make good pets is a flat out lie. Cats such as Servals are raised as Semi-domaesticated pets and are amazing animals, they can be walked on lead, and live in the house just like any other pet.

  • Servals are amazing animals you are right, this is why we believe they deserve so much better than living in a house. An elephant COULD live in an house, does this make it right and OK to do so??? Servals are WILD and should be kept that way, the ignorant people in this world seem to believe otherwise :)

  • @BigCatRescue Just to add on to that-any animal can be made into a pet, but that doesn't make it right. Dogs originated mainly from wolves and have been bred for thousands of years to be obedient to us, but even then they can still attack. The time it would take for almost any animal to become calm enough and trustworthy to be a pet could and probably would take a lifetime. Also, taking an animal, making it a pet, and breeding it will not save its species for good; they will lose their instincts

  • @BigCatRescue Perfectly said, you got everyone else with half a brain standing in support with you guys. May G-d send you guys much financial success and continue to give you guys the strength to be guardian angels and miracle workers for these poor suffering outstandingly gorgeous animals.

  • @BigCatRescue its a catch 22 they are not good pets and should be in the wild but people destroy thier habbitat witch then destroys the species.

  • @CAJFB True, but they should be kept in accredited zoos and breeding facilities, rather than homes.

  • @BigCatRescue I mean of course they are wild endangered animals that should be in the wild but when all else fails you have to send them to zoo's

  • @animelover462 -- Yeah, and that woman in Connecticut raised a chimpanzee in her home as a pet for many years. Then it bit her friend's face off. Wild animals might "make good pets" as you say for a little while, but it only takes one small thing for them to revert to wild and do harm to a human. That normally then gets the animal killed, when in the wild at least it would have had a chance to live a normal life and prolong the species. People who keep wild pets in their homes are selfish.

  • @2close2themoon Very well said :)

  • @2close2themoon Agreed.

  • @2close2themoon Where do you think domesticated animals came from in the first place?

  • @2close2themoon true that, if you love it - set it free!!!

  • @BigCatRescue And you know from working around 'wild kept' animals for 'years'.

  • I hadn't heard of these cats before this video.. It's so sad that they're going to disappear all because people wanted to keep them as pets, or take their fur.. poor cats, it had tears to my eyes. I hope they can still be rescued!

  • even at 15 years old, it is SUCH a pretty and cute cat...

i really can't imagine what monster of a human would kill

one for a couple of bucks. or anything else for that matter !

  • i would.

  • It may be that the black phase will outsurvive the lighter phase; they'd be less desireable from a fur buyers' perspective.

  • and he is gorgeous for his age, the only aged part of him that is oblivious is his face, and does he have discharge coming from his nose? I can't see it very well, but the kitty is really pretty!!! I love cats!!! :P

  • Nico is a female, she's a pretty cat, the thing on her nose is just the coloration no discharge.

  • Nevermind, anwsered my question

  • Its sad how people continue to make coats out of these..Are you able to have one of these as a pet though?

  • aww...going extinct...omg...that stuff gets me frustrated, that the extinction of most of these beatiful animals are dying...when my future children have their children...they will possibly not exist..kills me inside

  • I know it's the same old story all over the world with hundreds of species suffering because of mankind, future generations will look at us as barbarians who destroyed everything. I to hope we will make changes before it's too late.

  • this video is very informative...

i never thought this specie of cat exists.

    thanks for posting this video...

  • Thanks for watching, glad you found it interesting they are real tiny cats hey!

  • I know its not, but looking at this video...it looks just like a house cat

  • Yeah even smaller really but very vicious! You have to be very careful when feeding her!

  • do many of these cats live in the u.s.? do you have any idea of their numbers in the u.s.?

are there any groups out there whose purpose is to protect these cats in the wild and save them from extinction?

    thank you ==^-^==

  • Their numbers in south america are declining as their fur is in high demand as much as 25 geoffroy cats are needed to make one fur coat! The Northwood Felid Research and Education Foundation is devoted to their protection and conservation in the wild, thanks for watching!

  • Miko or Niko is absolutely gorgeous and very different looking face!

  • Niko is a good looking little cat but she can be very fierce alot of the time!

  • Oh, I have no doubt! He is very unusual looking though, thanks for the close up look!

  • My cat, winkie looks just like the black Geoffrey cat. She is fierce too and bites sometimes. She hates to be held and growls, except when being held by my son, whom she loves.

  • Wow, beautiful cats! I had never heard about Geoffroy cats until last night. A friend wrote me about this breed. They're simply awesome.

  • That's so sad that such a beautiful cat could disappear from the face of the earth.

If that's true, it's a good thing you made this video.

  • cute little critters :O)

  • Lion males do what lioness is going to want a male around who is going to eat them.Maybe our species is turning lion at least in the not wanting us around part hehe.Anyways ya the cat hs no hope butr wonderful to see.I love all big cats but it seems we just dont care enough to do what needs to be done for ALL of them. The Tigers really worry me since being the most beautiful of any land animal and only 300 Bengal and 200 Asiatic left.

  • It has no companion? It seems lonely.

  • Nico doesn't have a companion, most wild cats live solitary lives with the lion being the exception to the rule!

  • I tried to find the Geoffroy cat on your web site but couldn't locate the species.

Where is your information about this cat?

  • Hi, if you click on the search tab and type in the species name you will be directed to the information page.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you for sharing this educational video! I didn't know anything about these beautiful cats before seeing this... thank you also for rescuing Geoffry cats and all other species of big cats. Your organization has made such a different, teaching people and saving animals in need. Good work, Big Cat Rescue!

  • Good video, great information but must agree it is very hard to hear the narration.

  • aww its soooo cute

  • thank you for uploading a video about the geoffroy cats. it's worth the wait...

    more power to BCR...

  • I enjoy the knowledge you share with me very much. I have learned something new today. Very interesting! thank you :O)

  • for fifteen years old, that cute kitty is in excellent health!

  • That black cat has such sweet-looking eyes.

I was surprised to hear it's a wild cat.

    Its beauty deceived me.

We watched a video about a leopard that attacked its trainer-as a Paramedic we were supposed to see a detailed viewing of an animal attack; in case we get a zoo call I guess-and the wounds were astonishing even to me, an experienced Paramedic.

You can never underestimate the wild nature of the cats when you're a trainer.

  • They do look like domestic cats but surely they would not make good pets. It would take hundreds of years to domesticate them. I liked them though they are cute.

  • Very beautiful cat! There is a special place in Hell for fur traders!

  • Great vid, thanks, BCR. One suggestion: the volume is too low, I had a hard time hearing the narration. Any way to fix that?

Keep up the good work spreading the word on compassion & respect to these amazing fellow mammals!

  • Vanessa rocks

  • i find it kind of funny for some reason that it is called Geoffroy Cat just like ii think the name bob is kind of funny

  • It's nice to see the small, exotic cats getting attention. Because of their size, people think they also make great pets. Great video.

  • It's so sad- people want "cool" and exotic pets and inadvertently contribute to the destruction of the species :( sad too about the deforestation and that filthy fur trade. ooo human greed, and the destruction it can cause.

  • My kitty weighs 8 pounds, all of which she's converted into a sizable catitude.

She knows how much we love her, so she lets it show with gusto.

  • Do you hear of many cases of people adopting them by accident from questionable sources thinking that they're just housecats? And perhaps owning them by 'accident'?

Not that I have one or was even considering it, it's just that their likeness is so similar it seems easy for the common layman to unintentionally mistake one for some more domestic creature.

  • I don't quite understand why they can't use domestic ones in a breeding program to repopulate the wild?

Surely they can do simple DNA test to verify that the potential breeding pair are both 100% undilute Geoffroy Cat?

Anyway, very nice video. Thank you for posting it. :)

  • nameofthepen: Their instincts on regional. A good example is the ocelot. People bred ocelots who originated in S.A. where ocelots eat snakes that are mostly non poisonous. They released the ocelots in TX where they went after snakes...rattle snakes. End of project. If you can't trace the cat back to his origins, you won't know where to release him.

  • Hello, BigCat. Thank you for your astonishing reply. I had NO idea! Well, fingers crossed for the future of the lovely little Geoffroy Cat, yes?

And thank you so much for this informative and attractive video. It's such a good way to raise awareness and gain allies.

  • not trying to double post... but Happy Holidays!!!

and wow... Humans are stupid (no offence...)

  • it looks just like a domestic house cat.... i don't think i would recognize the difference if i saw one in real life...

  • Cool cat

  • Wow! I never knew such an animal existed. Thanks so much for yet another educational video.

  • Shameful humans have the least respect for life in all its forms....ty for the video

    Happy Holidays....peace and love....

  • not every human, cause i guess your not like that and you are human too.

  • it sounded like she was crying most of the time she was talking about them

  • LOVE the species spotlight making a comeback. Thanks :)

  • Looks like a housecat almost wow

  • nice vid

  • beautiful cat

  • Hi Geoffrey cat!

  • ::raises hand:: I have a question; Is there a difference between a black Geffory cat and a feral black house cat?

  • merry Christmas to the big cats!

  • the black one look like a normal cat to me!

  • Good rule: don't keep vicious fluffy things in your home. :D

  • can u have 1 as a pet <3? or is it too big and dangerous

  • Dear blackwlf761: People keeping them as pets is what has caused them to become so endangered. They are much too wild to keep as pets. They spray urine all over the house and they bite and scratch.

  • they look kinda like domestic cats

  • So,it's not just the bigger kitties that come both black and spotted. And they've got weird shaped faces too...I like them!It would probably take several generations to domesticate them---and then, they might not be Geoffroy Cats anymore.I think it best, that they stay wild, like the Plitvice Cats.

  • i love this video <3 such beautiful creatures...

  • aw they're so cute! It'd be awesome if you showed a clip of them swimming

  • FIRST!

  • wow im the 2nd view. thanks for sharing info about the georfreys cat
