  • Its crap avgn said so.

  • They play OTHER system's games!?

  • NOW you're talkin!

  • These guys would literally shit their pants if they saw skyrim

  • It feels like all old-school game commercials basically are saying "we are much better than our competition".

  • @Ozqawr They somewhat still do that. Old advertising (even on boxes and flyers) uses strange language (scarily honest?), though.

  • And there watching you

  • I know you all probably know this, but that was Pac-Man for the Atari 2600, not Colecovision.

  • VSAUCE!

  • I'm sitting on an atari...what?It's better than my chair

  • vsauce

  • 00:14 ITS AMIR!

  • Now you're talkin'!

  • my favorite game on the atari was missile command

  • CONTROLLERS SUCKED MY ASS

  • EVRYWHERE???

  • VSAUCE

  • I love how cheesy the old 80's commercials were >w<

  • My brother used to play old games like this back in like 2000 - I remember that.

  • Th Graphics may e good for the day, but the controller was absolute donkey shit.

  • IT'S A PILE OF FUCKING SHIT

  • @ProjectRealism hahahahaha AVGN said that

  • Genesis does what Atarin't

  • "Hey! We're Atari, and we're going to shit all over Coleco to make you buy our useless system! Hey, look at this awful version of Pac-Man the Coleco plays! What, it's just the Atari 2600 version we developed? YOU LIE, GO BUY AN ATARI 5200 YOU COLECO-PLAYING COMMUNIST!"

  • @UberMan5000 In atari's defense the 5200 pacman was VASTLY superior to the 2600 version. Still doesn't make up for the 5200's overall bad design and shitty controllers though. The 7800 was better though as its games weren't completely comprised of unoriginal rehashes and it was backwards compatable with the 2600

  • I don't really know why everyone keeps saying the controllers broke easily. I had a 5200 for nearly 10 years, and never broke the controllers. The fact that they weren't self-centering, that was the problem with those.

  • Yes folks, this is what the gaming industry was like before the age of the NES. No wonder it crashed.

  • LOL @ Idiots at Atari using there own Atari 2600 version of pacman against colecovision!

  • @VideoWolf69 It's not as stupid as you think. They were contrasting the 5200 with the 2600 (i.e. what the ColecoVision could play). They didn't really care about making the old Atari 2600 look like crap.

  • @VideoWolf69 Lol. That was a great marketing move. Atari lost the law suit against the module 1 that allowed 2600 games to be played on Coleco. Atari used its own uber bad Pacman game to trash the opposition. Now thats smart.

  • 0:04 isn't that pacman on atari 2600?

  • @iLoveJackingOn It is, but many ColecoVision owners had the expansion module to play Atari 2600 games on their system. That's why Atari took kind of a cheap shot at their own system to make the ColecoVision look inferior.

  • good do not know if will be possible that somebody can help me and find out the names of those games that is required there in the commercial

  • announcer: don't worry, we've made our systems 10 times as big as our competitor so you won't have trouble finding them.

  • Thats Pac man for the 2600

  • Just imagine if one if this generation of consoles had an advert comparing themselves to other consoles from the generation. There would be a riot!

  • @SuneGem

As James Rolfe put it, "There would be lawsuits out the ass".

  • *Decades later* "I was an actor once. I'm the freaked out kid who says Everywhere??? in the commercial son" "I think I'm the only person who knows this. Let's keep it that way dad".

  • And they didn't warn the buyers about the controller..

  • its ok guys I just found one in my arse, where all good

  • I loved my Atari 5200, I don't care what anybody says.

  • @CH3Jason what controller do you use, cause I think the one made for the 5200 that was 3rd party is really hard to find

  • I didn't understand this commercial when I was a kid. But today I realize both sides were pretty silly. Coleco making an adapter for a competitor's games, and Atari dissing their own overproduced Pac-Man for 2600 and not showing Coleco's Pac-Man.

  • There everywhere. I've yet to find one.

  • Wouldn't you love to go in a time machine with a killer gaming laptop and casually play Crysis in an arcade or in a school cafeteria of the early 80s?

  • @xilefian Lol it would be funnier to go to 1984 with a laptop and play minecraft. Ppl would be like, omg NES in 3D.

  • @zukodude487987 Minecraft graphics are more akin to SNES era

  • people back then weren't stupid and there already were true 3d games like irobot. noone would consider minecraft graphically amazing back then but they would find it interesting and addictive.

  • Yes it looks better but you'll only get about a week of use with the controller they give you

  • not pole position not THIS pole position

  • I love my 5200. Pac-Man is great, one of my favorite versions. And it's got a good number of games enjoyable to play even today. And the system just looks good, too.

  • what a peice of shit...

  • @ilikeaznchicks rubbish

  • Atari must've been so embarrassed about their 2600 port of pac man that they put it on their ad saying that its the coleco vision version.

  • that shit was everywhere even behind you look out a shitty console

  • Yes, everywhere. They're hiding under your bed, in your closet, in your bowl of breakfast cereal, on the street, in the traffic lights. Wherever you go, they're always watching you.

  • @MrHP25 and to make matters worse:

They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. Atari 5200 units feel no pity or remorse or fear. And they will absolutely won't stop...EVER... Until you are dead.

  • @figment1988 WTF you guys took that joke wayyyy to far, hahaha

  • @figment1988 or until the controllers break lol.

  • @figment1988 so atari 5200=worlds first troll?

  • When does this come out?

  • Thumbs up if you seen the angry video game nerd comment on how HORRIBLE THIS PIECE OF SHIT IS!

  • So kids, buy our super system, you can play the exact same games, they just look SLIGHTLY better! :D

  • Even thought the atari 5200 sucks, this commercial still brings back memories

  • the guy was like why wont it fit

  • Surprised Atari didn't claim it had 5200 bits.

  • It looks like history is about to repeat itself with Nintendo's Wii U. The Wii U 5200 may fail and the tablet controller may be its downfall.

  • It won't work on Colecovision? Thank goodness that trash doesn't work on Colecovision!

  • they did make an adapter for the 5200 to play 2600 games

  • Atari forgot to file a patent for the Atari VCS/2600 so the maker of Coleco bought out an adapter that allowed you to play 2600/VCS games on the Coleco.

  • Wow, i remember watching this, and thinking ""say that again"" what?

  • holy fuck that bitch is fat!

  • Do I sue Colecovision for taking my games? No. Do I make an adon to play their games? No. Then what do I do... Well make a brand new cheesey console that plays exactly the same games as the old one did - that solves the problem! Until Coleco release their adon that is...

  • @MadaraStv they did sue coleco but coleco used their own materials to make it so they just had to pay royalties to atari

  • Atari. if i had i had 7 word to say about them it will be: "Bad Business and a very bad lair"

  • "they're everywhere!".... no they are not, I never even saw one for sale in my city back in the 80's! lol.... They are more common now on ebay than they were in the retail stores 25 years ago... :)

  • Can't find it anywhere! Liars !!!!

  • But are they hard to find?

    There everywhere!

Probably because the Atari 5200 sucks balls

  • Me: Yeah, the Atari 5200 sounds cool and all, but what does the controller look like

Seller: Well, since all the other systems are doing it, we have a joystick and a number pad controller

Me: No thanks, I'll just buy a Colecovision

  • yeah...atari my ass!!

    E.T. MY ASS!!

  • @ 0:05 that's the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man, not Coleco's. This is just a false advertisement. And the worst part about this thing is, the Atari 5200 couldn't even play 2600 games. I can tell why this system failed in the first place.

  • @Vinny4SHO Its a reference to the Atari Adapter for Colecovision. You could play Atari 2600 carts with it, but NOT 5200 carts. Atari had lost its case against makers of Atari clone systems ad were simply being smug about the fact that you no longer had access to their whole library on alternate hardware. Hence, the you cant play THIS Pac Man comment.

  • Super system, my ass!

  • Supersystem? More like supersize, dammit!

  • @RetroShinigami

Have I said something bad about it :).

  • so buy this because our games are incompatible with everything else....

  • sadly never got one of those ones think 2600 was best we had

  • But the atari was a piece of crap and gamecube perfected PAC MAN when the namco hall of fame came out I think that's what it's called

  • They just showed the Atari 2600 version of Pacman and said it was the Colcovison's Pacman.

  • @TheBigArceus

    True :)

  • The colecovision is 8 bit, the NES is 8 bit, the Atari 5200 is 8 BIT! Which is more advanced- Clifford??

  • @incarnationofsorrow

N64 was 64-bit. PS1 was 32-bit. Both were absolutely GREAT consoles!

I owned a SEGA Genesis, and I never thought having a worse sound chip etc.

So why don't you go fuck cacti!

  • @PuksisKissa I think you misinterpreted my comment I admit it wasn't very funny, but I was making fun of the first Atari Jaguar commercial. They touted the system as superior because it was 64 bit, but back in the 8-bit era we see that bits are irrelevant. It doesn't really have anything to do with this commercial, so perhaps the comment was misplaced, but I'm goofing on Atari's inept marketing through the ages. I'm a game collector and love every system I own, so was this a misunderstanding?

  • I know there have been naysayers.

Other than the unreplaceable easily-broken controllers, I LOVE the 5200. Played it lots 1984-1988, then gave it away originally in 1993.

Got another 5200 on eBay a few years back, but haven't used it yet because I can't seem to get the "ohm" converter to work on my TV.

    Play on!!!

  • so they made a new console so that clecovision wouldn't be able to play atari games. I fail to see the point.

  • so isn't it stupid that colecovision could play 2600 games and the 5200 couldn't?

  • @neonrider93

It was even stupider that 90% of the 5200's game library were simply remade 2600 games with updated graphics

  • Another nail in the coffin for Atari. It was incompatible with the 2600, had a lousy joystick and was released when the videos games market was in decline!

  • Ok at 0:04 when it shows Pac Man for the "Colecovision," it's really showing the Atari 2600 version. LIARS!!!!!!

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 No, That is because it was only the 2600 version that could be played on other systems, not the 5200 which had better graphics.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 still, it's the adaptor

  • Comment removed

  • @Malfunction0982 thats not true they said that ataris pac man was colecos pac man

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @cdsballer99 It was, my mistake

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 colecovision had an adapter that let you play atari games

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 That's the point. You see, Colecovision had an adapter that played all 2600 games. So they purposely showed the old stupid 2600 version, then showed the new version. The rest talks about how the adapter plays 2600 games, but not 5200 games.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 That's because, and I believe I'm right on this, there was no Pac-Man for the Colecovision, as in a Colecovision cartridge. If you wanted to play Pac-Man on Coleco, the only way was to play the Atari 2600 cartridge on the adaptor. I still find it funny Atari would diss its own game.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 maybe they are the same version idk

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 I KNOW right?? I screamed, you fuckin' liars!! The Colecovision version of Pac-Man is great! And at least the Colecovision controllers are better than Atari 5200's.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 Everyone see what looks like an 8-track door slot on the front lower right of the Colecovision, that's for the 2600 adapter. You could indeed play the 2600 version of Pacman on it at the time. The unreleased prototype & Opcode versions became available way later. So in a way the commercial was telling the truth & Atari was bashing it's own earlier product lol.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 They reference "Atari cartridges" when they showed that. That was the only way ANY version of Pac Man could be played on the Colecovision.

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 They're not exactly lying. The Colecovision had an Atari 2600 cartridge port, so it could play Atari 2600 games. There wasn't a Pac-Man sold for the Colecovision, so the only version of Pac-Man available was the Atari 2600 version.

As a matter of fact, the commercial explicitly talks about the Colecovision playing Atari 2600 games. Do pay attention, please.

Same to those of you who voted this up blindly...

  • @AVGNnostalgiazilla00 and he said that in the video the next pac man he said its for 5200

  • Super System.

    More like super junk.

  • this thing is a huge brick and fits on no collector shelf, love it

  • This advert is so cheesey

  • i love that guys face when he says everywhere

  • HOW ARE THEY PLAYING THE GAME WHEN THE SEGA GENESIS WASN'T EVEN OUT YET!!!

  • they're not everywhere any more lol!

  • fuck that BIG-ASS console... = =a

  • ATARI 5200 SUPER SHIT

  • SUPER SUCKED! ask avgn.

  • Atari 2600 FTW

  • you can find em but good luck finding a good working controller

  • EVERYWHERE?!!!

  • @UncleFesterius EVERYWHERE !

  • @sonicguy1994 I got one at a video game store for over 100 dollars

    (106 Dollars)

  • 0:04 Uh, that was on YOUR OWN DARN CONSOLE! Sheesh, framing Coleovision for cruddy graphics.

  • You know the comercials back in the 1980s actually make me want to buy things. The Atari 5200 actually seems cool.

  • EVERYWHERE MY ASS THOSE THINGS ARE SUPER HARD TO FIND AND ALSO ONE THATS WORKING!!!!!!!!!

  • Huh. Check this out: the commercial emphasizes that the cartridges are friggin' huge. So huge they won't fit in anything but the 5200. At 0:28, the console looks absolutely massive and the game is comparatively tiny. Yeah, Supersystem. Just like a Supersized McDonalds meal, it's an ungodly huge mess.

  • 1980s: Available everywhere

2010s: Available at yard sales, flea markets, dumps, and AVGN's house

  • Pacman for the 5200. Fuck it!

  • worst atari ever !

  • ITS NOT A GOOD SYSTEM PERIOD.

  • @yepezoj, NO. THE SYSTEM WAS GOOD, THE CONTROLLERS WERE NOT. CAPS LOCK FTW.

  • @Ollie7475 True. The 5200 was better than Colecovision, Intellevision and in some ways the NES. It was hampered by 2 failings, the god awful controllers and the game library, which merely updated the same titles you could get on the 2600. Who wants a better version of a 5 yo video game? We wanted NEW games by then.

BTW Atari made many of their games for the Colecovision, which were just as good as the 5200 versions (though you had to wait a while). No great loss.

  • SUPERSISTEM MY ASS

  • True advertising would be "new atari 5200 with new broken controller, beer carrier, and much more"

  • what a piece of shit, even the controllers doesn't work. what a fuckload of ass.

  • they're everywhere! EEVVVVEEERRRRYYYYWWWHHHEEERRREE?!

  • 2600+2600=5200

  • @shanedawsonluv123 ahhhh.....

  • @shanedawsonluv123 oh god xD

  • HOW THE FUCK THE GAMES WORK WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK FOR AVGN

  • @nvn007 I hate it when people think that the Atari 5200 is a bad system just because Avgn was making fun of it. And the only reason it did not work for him was because his after market controller had the wrong plug (from what I remember). But he should just have bought a referbished 5200 controller like I did. That way he won't have to worry about a wrong plug. And the system it's self was actually very good and had many good games. Jeez I used to like Avgn but his fan base is so annoying. >.>

  • @nvn007 that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, when the controllers weren't worn out and were functional. but it's a fucking shit that 5200.

  • Blatant lies at 0:05. There is no version of Pac-Man for Colecovision. Even worse, the version shown is for Atari's own 2600!

  • @SpyHunter89 Ha ha ha, silly youtuber. Atari is referring to the Coleco Atari adapter. That is the Atari 2600 Pac Man, but Atari is stating that their new 5200 version doesn't work on the Colecovision adapter.

  • 1980's sweet i just got the atari 5200

2011 WHAT THE FUCK WHY DID I BUY THIS LOAD OF CRAP

  • Nice!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!

  • Everywhere??? I tried going into wal mart, best buy, future shop, target, the source, radio shack and the local stores and they didn't have any!!!

  • i can't wait to purchase the 5200 ! ! !

  • ... I'm pretty unclear of Atari's past, but instead of releasing a non-functional device, they should've sued Colecovision back to the stone-age.

  • HA, Colecovision never had Pacman on their system since Atari had the home rights for years.

So they are dissing their own Pac Man for the 2600.

    Lol

  • @snake2006 By 1982 Pacman was OLD. This was not a problem for Colecovision. It had Donkey Cong, which was the Pacman of 1982.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft

    I know.

I just find it funny saying "This is pacman on Coleco" when they know damn well it was their shit version and it was never released on Coleco. Talk about false advertising.

  • Ironic. The Atari 5200 died quickly while its predecessor Atari 2600 lived on till the bitter end of the 4-bit era (or before the 8-bit era). Such is the windy path of video game fate... back in the 80's.

  • @inlazlowetrust but didn't the 5200 have one of the worse controllers ever?

  • there talking about ther games when they said coleco visssion that does not make sence!

  • @orbitoverthesun Colecovision released an add-on that allowed you to play 2600 games on a Colecovision. No Joke.

  • @Theriot6592 now how was there no lawsuits that would never be allowed to today

  • The thing that was hard to find was replacement controllers! What garbage!!

  • The back is for rolling rock

  • The Acting was as good as the system itself, bad.

  • I'm curious if anyone know's how much these cost back then?

  • friggin controllers

  • Sheesh the commercials back then had WeIrD acters. O_o

  • EVERYWARE....
