It's Gary Jules, and it just depends on the person really. Personally, I like almost all versions of the song. Tears for Fears, however, are just musical genius' period. :)
I came more under the impression it was the end of "his world" Hence why he realises his life would theoreticly end either way except if it ended in the future then it would also end numerous other life's witch is why he lets to falling jet engine kill him ironicly enough also from the future,
to me i just hate Adam whats his face. oh wow he won American idol goddamn it if it wasn't for that show. i just don't like the guy fuck you Adam fans XD. just kidding but still hes version of this song sucks ass.
this was back when ppl wrote songs to express an idea, feeling or thought, now a days ppl just write a song for the hell of making money,we need to bring back the greatness of the oldies
I absolutlely love '80s music, and while I agree with remnant55 that Tears for Fears' "face paced, chaotic, dissonant music" better captures the meaning of this song than the Gary Jules rendition, I still can't help but feel more partial to the Gary Jules version. It's all only a matter of opinion though.
Actually, the song being about social alienation and feelings of seperation and dissatisfaction, the Tears for Fears, face paced, chaotic, dissonant music fits perfectly for what the song is about. The Jules version may be more warbly and emotional, but it almost changes the meaning of the song to a more generic "sad at life" in the process. I find the Tears for Fears version much more interesting, personally.
You do realize that tears for fears came out with this song originally, not gary jules... lol.
Think it's easy to judge a song that simply just sounds a little dated because it originated in like 82-83 while gary jules version is more up to date with music trends.
This video being so creepy is part of what makes it so beautiful. The GJ version is alright, but this is just fuckin' beautiful. Call me weird if you like. I'm weird. I suck. I'm not normal. Whatever. This song is the better version.
Everytime I hear that Linkin Park song it does remind me of Tears For Fears song Mad World..it's not a huge rip off, but rather a subtle one. I hear it more in the beginning and ending of that LP song.
Just saw him again at 2:26, now I gotta say nah dude just give it up and finish college.
It's a crushing realization when no-depth perception and no hand-eye coordination meet in no fluid-motion plaza and go to lunch together for one great big fail sandwich... it's like dutch door action... but without the dutch.
It's doesn't matter if ya don't know how to dance, just get out there and flail about... just make shit up. If you accidently strike someone with the moves just tell 'em to visit the school nurse.
his was good, for only being like a minute long. Gary Jules's version and TFF's are better. Depends on your mood. kinda sad but still want an upbeat song = TFF. depressed and need the slower stuff = Gary Jules
Adam Lambert sings an amazing version of this song. I actually prefer listening to him sing it than listen to the Tears For Fears version. I hope he wins A.I
lawls, he lost and it wasnt his version. He sang Gary Jules' version of it...and it sounded horrible. Too much vocal mobility that he had to show off every song. That's why Kris won, Kris sang his songs with proper tone and not showing off his range at every chance.
It's great that he showed off his vocal mobility, he's a very unique and interesting artist. I like Kris too, he's hot and everything but I like Adam's range unlike Kris where every song sounds the same with him.
See, now of course, this version of the song is good. I have to give him credit as most lyrics weren't quite so dark in the 80's. BUT. He made a song with dark and depressing lyrics, yet it sounds like something you'd play at a disco party. It really takes a lot away from the story in the song, and makes it feel like a party. Also, his voice is a bit drowned out by the music, which takes a lot away from what he is saying. This is good, but I think I'll stick to the Gary Jules version.
To me, Gary's cover is more like a traditional depression, while this has a certain "psychotic sorrow" element to it..I can't really explain it. Both are great of course.
I totally know where you're coming from. I own the movie, and still don't get it all. Basically, he ended up on an alternate space-time where he got to live for a finite amount of time, until that space-time ended, and the movie rewinds where the engine drops on him. By the way, they made a sequel S. Darko (but it's not near as good as the original)
