  • i lov this song it,s abit old ...well so am i

  • The gears of war version is the best.

    GO Gears!!

  • You mean the Gary Jules version...

  • The adam version is more darker this one has a beep bop to it. And it is faster. That was 1982 though.

  • lol the dancing....

  • the dancing...

  • maybe the original is the best but this is the best COVER

  • this the original

  • It is the original :3

  • Reminds me of Depeche Mode.

  • Nooo... NOt even close. Depeche mode is great also

  • @drakkis ikr?

  • Gary Jules version is good...nice reinterpretation on it but the original still prevails

  • aguante adam lambert

  • No cover is better than the original, so sorry all you cover-lovers out there lol!!! Rock on TFF!

  • Agreed.

  • This song is better than the gary jules version

  • wwhat do you mean by"epic fail"?

  • In your opinion....

In my opinion this is better than Jules.

  • It's actually quite a difficult dance to do. You need the hair for a start...

  • You also need strong hips to do that dance too.

  • the ORIGINAL, just like TRUE RELIGION , made in USA , not china

  • GARY JULES is the COUNTERFEITER, just like English Laundry, made in UK not CHINA

  • the MAD WORLD DANCE IS THE BEST

  • TFF rules...love the deep meaning of the song and the music video...makes one think deeper.

  • no offense to anybody.

but this is way too upbeat.

  • Gotta love those moves! It sure is a mad world......

  • How can I learn to dance like Roland at 1:55?

  • I don't know if you can! It's like asking Pavarotti 'teach me to sing like you'

  • beautiful 80s song...the original song!

tears for fears is a good band...and curt smith here is so handsome

  • This is too upbeat for its lyrics. I still love TFF though.

  • u must have seen american idol and heard adam lambert, lol, that guy sung it almost exactly like the remake, which is slower

  • Ugh, please don't even mention American Idol contestants. The truly only good singer on there didn't even win, Chris Daughtry.

  • wow... in comparison to the Michael Andrews & Gary Jewels cover..... the original's kinda gay.

  • lol totally agree

  • It's Gary Jules, and it just depends on the person really. Personally, I like almost all versions of the song. Tears for Fears, however, are just musical genius' period. :)

  • im drunk as fuck and this song is wild

  • my advice..get really really high, then listen to this song with headphones on....it is unbelieveble.....

  • if you were really really really fucking drunk you would have typed "iKM sunk sa fychk ssandd sond uos wikdiug c"

  • Love this song! Gary Jules version is also good, but sounds very depressing like if it was the end of the world.

  • Well, it is in Donnie Darko, a move about the possible end of the world.

  • donny darko wasnt about the end of the world

  • Yes, the potential end of the world.

  • I came more under the impression it was the end of "his world" Hence why he realises his life would theoreticly end either way except if it ended in the future then it would also end numerous other life's witch is why he lets to falling jet engine kill him ironicly enough also from the future,

  • Well, the lyrics aren't exactly good for the version Tears for Fears made

  • And the other one is ghey as hell

  • uhh i think i prefer the gary jules version..

  • to me i just hate Adam whats his face. oh wow he won American idol goddamn it if it wasn't for that show. i just don't like the guy fuck you Adam fans XD. just kidding but still hes version of this song sucks ass.

  • this was back when ppl wrote songs to express an idea, feeling or thought, now a days ppl just write a song for the hell of making money,we need to bring back the greatness of the oldies

  • I absolutlely love '80s music, and while I agree with remnant55 that Tears for Fears' "face paced, chaotic, dissonant music" better captures the meaning of this song than the Gary Jules rendition, I still can't help but feel more partial to the Gary Jules version. It's all only a matter of opinion though.

  • This is too fast, i like the Gary Jules version so much better b/c it actually sounds the way the song and it's lyrics make more sense

  • Actually, the song being about social alienation and feelings of seperation and dissatisfaction, the Tears for Fears, face paced, chaotic, dissonant music fits perfectly for what the song is about. The Jules version may be more warbly and emotional, but it almost changes the meaning of the song to a more generic "sad at life" in the process. I find the Tears for Fears version much more interesting, personally.

  • I agree with you completely

  • totally agree with you, remnant!

  • You do realize that tears for fears came out with this song originally, not gary jules... lol.

Think it's easy to judge a song that simply just sounds a little dated because it originated in like 82-83 while gary jules version is more up to date with music trends.

  • foi um momento lindo

cara foi bom demais esse tal de anos 80

  • THIS IS THE BEST xD

  • as medium (but original) as this is, it blows away adam lambert all day, every day!

  • Awesome 80's hit!!!

  • lmao interesting dance....

  • I hope they play this song at their concert on saturday <3

  • This video being so creepy is part of what makes it so beautiful. The GJ version is alright, but this is just fuckin' beautiful. Call me weird if you like. I'm weird. I suck. I'm not normal. Whatever. This song is the better version.

  • i agree...this is a cool video.

  • not weird, don't suck. THIS IS FUCKIN' BEAUTIFUL.

  • duh, song called 'Mad World'

  • it does not have to make any sense..it is a classic scene...

  • listening to these guys and duran duran just reinforce my idea that the 80s were creepy.

  • Gotta love Linkin Park ripping off Tears for Fears in their new song "New Divide". Nothing original anymore.

  • wtf r u talking about? i was listening to new divide just now and they dont sound the same at all

  • the melodies are pretty close and the bass is virtually the same also

  • Everytime I hear that Linkin Park song it does remind me of Tears For Fears song Mad World..it's not a huge rip off, but rather a subtle one. I hear it more in the beginning and ending of that LP song.

  • make me think of richy edwards

  • Gary jules' cover= epic win

    made it so dramatic.

  • wow, thats weird.

  • uh does anyone else find this vid a bit creepy?

  • yes,in a good way. Rolands dance is excellent. The horns are good too.

  • No, its actually quite magical and effervescent

  • pretty easy to redo a song if you did not write the words or melodies.

Jules version is awesome, but he didn't write it. That is what makes the original better ( in my mind).

I am an old fart and I remember putting this album on and getting totally blown away. This was a sound and expression that quickly crossed the "pond"

  • This song is used for Iphone ringfor Neela in ER S15E12. So good!

  • Wait a minute...

Just saw him again at 2:26, now I gotta say nah dude just give it up and finish college.

It's a crushing realization when no-depth perception and no hand-eye coordination meet in no fluid-motion plaza and go to lunch together for one great big fail sandwich... it's like dutch door action... but without the dutch.

  • The laughing begins at 1:50.

It's doesn't matter if ya don't know how to dance, just get out there and flail about... just make shit up. If you accidently strike someone with the moves just tell 'em to visit the school nurse.

  • yay for the 80's! haha

  • My favorite version will always be Gary Jules, but thank you Tears For Fears for writing such an amazing song!

  • Still the best version.

  • other version is 100 times better!!!!!!:)

  • adam lambert's version is way better!!

  • Who cares if that kid's voice sounds better. He couldn't write a song this good to save his (overly dramatic) life.

  • Agreed!

  • his was good, for only being like a minute long. Gary Jules's version and TFF's are better. Depends on your mood. kinda sad but still want an upbeat song = TFF. depressed and need the slower stuff = Gary Jules

  • who cares about kris and adam!!! their both good and will both get record deals!!

  • Adam Lambert sings an amazing version of this song. I actually prefer listening to him sing it than listen to the Tears For Fears version. I hope he wins A.I

  • lawls, he lost and it wasnt his version. He sang Gary Jules' version of it...and it sounded horrible. Too much vocal mobility that he had to show off every song. That's why Kris won, Kris sang his songs with proper tone and not showing off his range at every chance.

  • i believe it was the other way around, gary jules did his version of it.

  • LOL the gary jules version came out waaaaay before AL's did.

  • I think that Adam sung it awesome.

It's great that he showed off his vocal mobility, he's a very unique and interesting artist. I like Kris too, he's hot and everything but I like Adam's range unlike Kris where every song sounds the same with him.

  • See, now of course, this version of the song is good. I have to give him credit as most lyrics weren't quite so dark in the 80's. BUT. He made a song with dark and depressing lyrics, yet it sounds like something you'd play at a disco party. It really takes a lot away from the story in the song, and makes it feel like a party. Also, his voice is a bit drowned out by the music, which takes a lot away from what he is saying. This is good, but I think I'll stick to the Gary Jules version.

  • wow this is so 80's.

wait it is from the 80's right?

i like the slower covers from Donnie Darko and Adam Lambert better than this version. i'm kinda weirder out by the beats in the background here.

  • Gary Jules' cover is good...Adam Lambert butchered it though.

  • really? I liked how adam did it ;_;. Haha yeah tho I loved Gary's jules's version

  • yea, adam lambert made me want to beat my head in a wall. it made me cry it sucked so bad.

  • the........what? ha.

  • Is that how the used to dance back then?

  • What do you mean 'back then'?? I dance like that now!

  • seriously..

  • its still weird to here a sad song this fast paced

    love their other songs though

  • To me, Gary's cover is more like a traditional depression, while this has a certain "psychotic sorrow" element to it..I can't really explain it. Both are great of course.

  • agreed!

  • omg i dont really get donnie darko i just recently saw like this week someone please explain what6 is aboyut

  • you know when the plain crashes on his house a the beginning ?

well when that plain crashed he was supposed to die

and then all the other shit hapened

    sorry for my english

  • I totally know where you're coming from. I own the movie, and still don't get it all. Basically, he ended up on an alternate space-time where he got to live for a finite amount of time, until that space-time ended, and the movie rewinds where the engine drops on him. By the way, they made a sequel S. Darko (but it's not near as good as the original)

  • this song realy soothes my depressed nerves....

  • like it better than gary jules but both great version

  • isn't this a very old song?

    I like it anyway^^

  • Yes it is. It's 22 years old. :)

  • and if you look to the right of the video...

Music video by Tears For Fears performing Mad World: Stereo Video with Chris Hughes [Producer], Ross Cullum [Producer] (C) 1982 Mercury Records Limited

  • Donnie Darko =)
