  • WOW! From an artistic point, just wonderful....from the scientific point, we are seeing things and learning from all these films , the more we learn, the better prepared we all can be.

  • In Belgium this would be called a tornado...

  • I live just east of Topeka in Tecumseh, KS and we dropped south about 5 miles and watched this storm from almost the same vantage point... Looks like you may have been a few miles west of where we were located... Storm structure was amazing.

    flugzeugbilder(DOT)de/showDOT)php?id=1049765

  • I wish someone would use a video like this to explain the anatomy of the storm to us idiots....maybe someone gifted in both meteorology and video editing could do a simple text overlay.

  • @catamaranman333 That is an excellent idea. I would do it, but I need Chad Cowan's permission to use his video first...

  • @catamaranman333 the national weather service dose on there website

  • Clouds like this form because of strong low pressure systems. The low pressure system sucks up warm air from ground level into colder air into the sky. The differing temperatures, combined with the presence of condensation nuclei, start to form clouds. If the low pressure system is strong enough, the cloud will start to spin with the pressure system (counterclockwise). If the pressure gets stronger, a column of extremely strong low pressure will drop to Earth, AKA a tornado.

  • @TheeMikester I was thinking more like: "here (draws arrow onto video) is the warm air." "Here is the cold air" (draws another arrow). "This is the outflow tail" (draws long squiggly thing). "This is the laminar inflow boundary layer" (draws straight lines going in)......"and this is softball-sized hail" (draws hail).

  • @catamaranman333 It's a mesocyclone with a rotating wall cloud with many funnels.

  • @StLouisStormSpotter there was only 1 or 2 funnels not many funnels

  • @catamaranman333 We need David Attenborough to commentate this.

  • About 10 years ago one summer I was picnicking near Santa Fe New Mexico during the "monsoon season". At 1 PM I was looking at a totally cloudless sky, then a puffy little white cloud popped up, and grew and grew. Within a few hours it was flooding in Santa Fe...the streets were running with silt-laden torrents.
