I've watched this video so many times!!! Thanks a million moodyb. I fell in love with this song since it came out and got the album. Do you know if this video is available on any of Sakamoto's DVDs release? I'll be really thankful if anyone could tell me.
I was fortunate to meet RS around 02, at an $8.00 show at the TLA in Phila. PA. I asked some guy out front if I could get an autograph and when he went to get me one I just followed behind him, through the theatre check points, like staff. We went upstairs and stood at the top of the stairs and down the hall in a room was RS talking to friends. He came down the hall and gave me an autograph and we spoke. he was very reverent, bowed respectfully and we shook hands. An A+++ honour for me. :-)
Sakamoto Ryuichi I love but most Japanese respect only prefer Western Rock like David Sylvian and Ingird Chavez. We have band "SKETCH SHOW" that performed no music, lightshow & ART - Great!
Have never seen Sylvian look so 'alive' .........and of course the voice is above all else lovely ...Sakamoto he s so great...saw him in London o many years ago..a very different concert...so entertaining even tho his voice is I think quite weak
The journey from heartbeat to blemish is over now for Sylvian. I feel he will come out of his introspective stage and suprise us all with something very much more accessable and commercial very soon. not that i don't like his music, i love it. just I feel that his message to the world needs a more commercial production to convey to the masses.
do you think that is the direction he will take? even though he plays old stuff we all want to hear on the tour, i wouldn't say he seems too interested in pleasing the masses...
I think in the end it may be inevitable for Sylvian. For years he has stuck to his principals. However he does not sell now. In order for him to carry on doing what he wants to do (i.e. artistic direction) he may have to do a Japan album and tour to make some $.
I have to disagree. I think he's become less and less commercial over the years, though the music is amazing (remember, Britney is commercial). Yes, he has stuck to his principles, and I'm curious why you think that will change. People get more set in their ways as they get older, and I suspect when he needs a bit of cash, he'll do a commercial or something but leave his core music as true to himself as ever. Just my guess.
@MisAnnThorpe (Manafon)...in all it's dreaful mediocrity, think Sylvian needs the foil and lightness of Sakamoto to stop him sinking in his own melancholy and losing creative direction aka Manafon
"but if he is wearing that shirt in copenhagen in september i will have to wear shades." well, if that's how you speak when you're serious i can already imagine how you sound when you try to be funny. anyway, don't bother, just a thought, have a cool gig in copenhagen.
i really can't see why you should be concerned about what i'm like when i try to be funny. but obviously, david sylvian can wear whatever he likes. all that matters is that he brings a guitar and that little choir of angels that seems to be living in his larynx.
in regards of this performance.. i was absolutely stunned. i've never heard this song before, i don't have an idea why i've chosen it to watch but man, this is brilliant. everything sounds so harmonized. plus each of the awesome great musicians put their own, from katche's drums to the sylvian voice that makes you wanna melt. yeah, heartbeat..
Manu Katche` on drums. bass player messed up a tiny bit in the beginning- needed the solo to cover it- i liked all of this except for the male 'singer' near the end 'talking out' the great Sylvian lyrics.
My favorite song: that´s what`s live all about!!!!!

One of my favorite songs of all time. Sylvian killed the Captain and sank the fleet to liberate the Heartbeat.

Not one of my favorite songs, but the fact that part of YMO is in the band along with Sylvian makes it worthwhile.
