Phil, the reason why there are so many save spots is brobably because they double as checkpoints since there are no stand alone checkpoints in the game. I'm guessing when you die, the game lets you lad your save and that's that. So whereever you saved last is where you have to retry from. I think you should defenately take advantage of all save spots.
I'd rather have too many save points than too little. At least then I can probably skip one without beating myself up and playing 7 hours of gameplay again, lol.
