    Reasons:

    Pin drop silence

    No one answers any questions

She avoids the camera n looks everywhere else tht means no students in the middle :S

pointless comment but had to tell :D shouldnt pretend to be teaching a class where she isnt. nice lectures btw.

  • try to understand this at the university of Maryland at college park and at the University of Alaska-Anchorage but it was impossible due to the teaching of my professors......your lectures are great and I understand everything now...please come to the University of Alaska-Anchorage to teach the second part of Biochemistry, I believe they are now hiring for a chemistry Prof

  • Thank you so much for posting these very informative lectures for public use. You are helping many of us learning biochemistry. Thanks again dear Dr. Dasgupta.

  • These lectures are fantastic! Thank you Dr!

  • A very big thanks ma'am...

  • Thank you Mam

  • how can u tell the difference between naming something "-pyranosyl" and "-pyranose" as endings?

  • @manunited1818

I hope You are familiar with Open and ring forms for Glucose?

well, a pyranose is Heterocyclic six membered ring consisting of Five Carbon atoms in the ring and the sixth atom(the hetero atom) being,Oxygen.

Now, if one looks at The Pyranose formof Glucose, we see that the Carbon atom adjacent to The O atom(i.e., alpha C atom)has an -OH group. Right?

so, when a Hydrogen atom is Removed from this -OH, it becomes "pyranosyl"

mail me for further details, if unclear.

  • sugar is named pyranose if the sugar has a 'free' anomeric carbon. pyranosyl refers to the first sugar in the dissacharideI believe. and u didn't ask but pyranoside refers to a sugar without a free anomeric carbon.

  • @manunited1818. The first monosaccharide is give the -osyl ending. Pyranose forms are six carbon sugars.

  • @Rajofyourheart is completely right.

A basic example to explain why we add -yle to anything?

Methane, when removed off one atom of hydrogen becomes methyl. Similarly if H atom is removed from any compound it becomes an -yle radical. :)

    I hope it explained!

  • thank u

  • contnuation ...

is necesary a enzime to ocurr the formation of polisacharids ?

Other cuestion Dr. do you have a class of chiriality ?

  • Very well in theory but in the practice if a put a-g and b-g in a beaker not form a polisaride

  • greatt!!!!

  • great video

  • Who cares?

    Great video!

  • but if you have an old or paid account you can :)
