Horrible Horrible defeat for Roddick. I still cannot believe this just happened. It just goes to show whether he is in good form or not, confident or not he will always be vulnerable when it comes to lower ranked players performing outside of themselves in the early rounds of slams. For me that's what has ruined Roddick's career more than losing all his big matches to Federer. It is the trend of these type of epic early defeats that hurt him the most.

Roddick the perennial underachiever. If he ever concentrated on returning serves he would have become more successful. You can't just hope to hold serve all the time to win. Wimbledon he gets broken once and US Open broken once and loses both matches. He has always given up way to early on points when he isn't serving.

He lost it because a) he choked in the second set tiebreaker, and b) he got tired in the fifth set a lot quicker than Roger did. Roddick's on court attitude always stinks. Isner looked rushed during his celebration out of respect for Roddick but I would've milked it for longer than a quick sit down on court. My only regret about the end of this match is that Roddick didn't leave the court any quicker.

I agree that there should be no tie breaker in the fifth. It's almost as bad as penalty kicks deciding the world cup. Anyways, I was really surprised Roddick lost. He seemed to be playing well his first couple of matches this week. Also, after playing so well in Wimbledon, almost winning it all, I thought he was going to make a real run at the open. The match wasn't telivised which was disappointing. Wish I could have seen it. With Federer and Djokovic struggling, more upsets may be coming.
