I own a stock 1996 cobra my son owns a stock 2007 350z ive beat him from a stop,dig ect ect and we both go to drag strip regularly on weekends. I dont see anything special about either car to be honest.

Both cars are sweet! I'm just tired of seeing racing videos where the driver misses a gear, like if you can't drive a stick buy an automatic so you don't have that little problem anymore.
I did the same race, 03 350z vs 2002 mustang gt...... the 03 350z won by like 1/2 a car. Intake and exhaust were only upgrades on Z mustang was stock. very close race driver was biggest factor
@jdmrunner24 well actually the 04 GT is a SOHC+D 2.4V with a pos accelerator block, that year they added a couple modifications to the block such as neutrafibular circuits and a pushrod with a built in AC induction motor, also a class 220 insulation so that the air flow was peaking at maximum potential, did i add that the gearhead efficiency was running at 100%, this brought down the 04 GT numbers to roughly 13.4 1/4 mile and 5.5 0-60.
Enjoy that used supercharged while it lasts then dumbass. After market exaust doesn't add much horse power but on a street racer denotes that this guy invest money in performance. That car was supercharged 1000% so agri child
@AgentStyles That is what I hear I've never driven an s2000, but wanted to buy one for a while except i had to get rid of my z for the fact I live in Pittsburgh and the winters suck. And also they are hard to find in this area for less than 20,000 with decent miles.
That mustang was not supercharged lmao. Those tires would have been decimated off the line. And not to mention it would have pulled much much harder top end....

@AgentStyles Bottom line that Mustang was supercharged and had an after market muffler to say the least. You're weighing that against 2 back seats and a couple extra inches of trunk space? That super charger kit + muffler was at least $8,000 parts and labor and for about that you could drop a TT in that Z; and that stang would be a speck in the rear view ;)

@AgentStyles My first car was 240 SX SE, second 300 ZX TT, now 350z Greddy TT, I know what these cars can and can't do. That stang was supercharged, get a copy with the real sound I guarentee you'll hear it. Stock 350z 2005 vs vs. Stock GT the Z wins every time.

@TommygunnZ33 Actually is gearing, at those speeds i dont think weight is a problem anymore, a car with 2.73 final gearing will be slower off the line than one with 3.23 but if they both keep going the 2.73 car will eventually catch up and pass cuz the shorter gear makes ur topspeed go down cuz engine reaches top rpm, unless he has another gear in the tranny then thats another story.
Ouch.. beat by a 2 valve which I assume is modded? Never been a huge fan of the 2v 4.6 mod motor but I will say it can run pretty decent with trick flow heads. And no.. the new Z will not get anywhere near a 2011 Mustang GT. I can't remember if it was Motortrend or Caranddriver but the 370Z was only a half second quicker in the quarter than the 2010 Mustang GT. Just sayin...
@boondocksaint18 Definitely didn't mean to diss the 370 as I do not dislike that car. I just wish that Nissan would put the 5.6 liter V8 in the Z.. maybe call it the 560Z with 450 to 500 horses. That V8 is now making about 400 horses in the new Infinity QX. If Nissan did that? I'd be all over that thing like white on rice!

@hopcup1 i agree that Z's are better, but also remember that it takes a mustang gt to keep up with a 350 or 370. now the new 2011 mustangs are supposed to be a good deal faster than any of the predecessors, but even still a Z will give it a run for its money any day of the week. and i'll always favor a Z over a mustang.

And my other friends 350z is back in the dealer at 73k miles because of transmission. I love both cars, and the 350z sure is sexy.. but again, I love both cars. Its a DOHC 4.6L and it is faster than a 350Z 3.5L. Sorry to all you whinners, put a turbo in the z and a supercharger in a cobra or even the SOHC gt and the outcome is the same. ANY car can be fast, it just takes money.

But, this isnt about my car, its about this guys mustang, if it is a cobra, then everything is explained. Cobras are fucking fast. but i know for damn sure a GT will not beat a 350/G35.

@ShepperdW no mustang was sold as a 4.9 ford called the straight 6 a 4.9 and rounded the early 5.0 up, there was also a 4.2 in 1982 that came on automatic gt mustangs, that engine was a joke.

@jmrub06 Hmm that's funny because my friend has 520k miles on his 99 Mustang and still runs healthy as mine, without an rebuild either. And my other friends 350z is back in the dealer at 73k miles because of transmission. I love both cars, and the 350z sure is sexy.. but again, I love both cars. I don't hate on ANY car... except the Smart Car.. but I don't count it as a car if it's the size of my dinner table.

I found one on the sidewalk on a hilly place and decided to "scientifically" test out the structural strength by attempting to roll it down the hill. Turns out it's quite strong when rolling down a hill. But paying for some of those panels sucked. How can shit plastic panels cost that much? Oh wait it's got a mercedes logo on it.
