At the time he tells Riddle about the Horcrux, Riddle already had made his first one (by killing his father and putting part of his sould into Marvolo Gaunt's ring). As for how he ended up in the orphanage. simple, Mom passed away when the dad left. the dad was under a love potion, they had a child, she quit giving him the love potion, he left and it caused her so much pain that she died.

In fact, during his, shall we say "jon interview" with Dumbledore, he appeared -- while not totally transformed, certainly different than normal. His eyes would flash crimson at times, and they were beginning to narrow themselves. His skin was pale and he was loosing weight. He was in the process of transforming, however it is unlikely that he would have appeared as he now does, without Wormtail's ritual.
@cowtowngrl Wormtail fed the weakened Lord Voldemort on milk from Naigini. This, certainly, had some effect. Yes: killing and performing the Horcrux-creation ritual might have had some effect on his appearance, however it was primarily the snake-milk and the fact that he needed to have a new body created, which is responsible for how snake-like the Dark Lord looks...
Remember: Voldemort does NOT care about "sex" or dating, or whatever. He is far beyond such earthly occupations.

Lord Voldemort probably had a normal nose right up until he tried to kill the infant Harry, and lost his body. The flat nose with enlongated slits really goes a long way in changing his appearance, and if he still had a normal nose he would probably look quite a lot less snake-like.

There, he tried posessing many creatures, even a person or two (which was hard as he was so weak), and in the end he found a snake to be the best to his liking. That's why he has Naigini: She's the snake he posessed in Albania, and now one of his Horcruxes. She is significant to him. Slytherin and all that.

horcrux is a thing that you split a part of your soul into so you dont die. He has done it 7 times so his soul is all cut up and what not making him not look good anymore.

@ivkoacount its really, really, really hard to understand the WHOLE story, if u only watched the movies! In the books, everything is explained much better and thereare other memories like : Voldemorts parents and stuff.
im from germany, icannot explain everything in english (: but i can just advise u to READ THE BOOKS

if you havent read the book, it's a way to help you not die, Riddle fears death, so that's why he did it. he kills someone, splits his soul with a spell and conceals it in an object and doing it 7 times is very dangerous which is why Slughorn is shocked by it. As for how he ended up in the orphanage. simple, Mom passed away when the dad left. the dad was under a love potion, they had a child, she quit giving him the love potion, he left and it caused her so much pain that she died.

@Undergroundlich See, but I don't think the attraction holds when The Dark Lord reaches his twenties, and becomes all pale and snake-like.
Bald, red eyes (which are now slits and NOT regular pupils), completely hairless, cold, veinous (of the vericose variety).... and check out those finger/toe nails! Then there's the teeth on top of all that.

I mean i understand after with him being basically a parasite on quirrel and being brought back to i guess human form which showed his inner evilness(don't know if thats a word) but i don't understand why he changed before all that is it because of the horcruxes?

@cowtowngrl Ah, yes: Tom chose to make himself look more snake-like as he went along. In fact, during his, shall we say "jon interview" with Dumbledore, he appeared -- while not totally transformed, certainly different than normal. His eyes would flash crimson at times, and they were beginning to narrow themselves. His skin was pale and he was loosing weight. He was in the process of transforming, however it is unlikely that he would have appeared as he now does, without Wormtail's ritual.

@cowtowngrl Wormtail fed the weakened Lord Voldemort on milk from Naigini. This, certainly, had some effect. Yes: killing and performing the Horcrux-creation ritual might have had some effect on his appearance, however it was primarily the snake-milk and the fact that he needed to have a new body created, which is responsible for how snake-like the Dark Lord looks...
Remember: Voldemort does NOT care about "sex" or dating, or whatever. He is far beyond such earthly occupations.

@cowtowngrl Right: Lord Voldemort did look rather odd even then, however not quite like he does at the end.
It was a slow progression. When he killed James & Lily Potter he was certainly a sight to behold.... unnatural, but even then not what he became after the rituals and horcruxes and all that.
Dark Magic.... leaves traces. :)

@cowtowngrl Voldemort's "job interview" with Dumbledore was well before he murdered Lily and James Potter, and at that time he looked very snake-like, but still not fully "Dark Lord-ish" He could still go about in polite society at that time without causing everyone to run in terror.
As I said, it was a slow progression which quickened with the addition of snake milk and the horcruxes.

@cowtowngrl ...and the snake milk + Wormtail's ritual in which the Dark Lord's body is recreated... he may never have actually attained his current level of snake-like-ness if his original body had never been destroyed, when he tried to kill Harry as a baby.
Grindlewald, for example, is another very dark Wizard who did not look like a snake. Dark Magic does not necessarily make one appear like that, one needs to sort of want it and work towards it, which Lord Voldemort did.

@cowtowngrl The nose I think is the primary feature which was changed by the snake milk feeding (which went on for months and months) and the subsequent ritual. Lord Voldemort probably had a normal nose right up until he tried to kill the infant Harry, and lost his body. The flat nose with enlongated slits really goes a long way in changing his appearance, and if he still had a normal nose he would probably look quite a lot less snake-like.
His eyes became red much earlier...

@cowtowngrl It's important to understand the snake connection. After the Dark Lord "died" while trying to kill Harry, his spirit fled to the forests of Albania. There, he tried posessing many creatures, even a person or two (which was hard as he was so weak), and in the end he found a snake to be the best to his liking. That's why he has Naigini: She's the snake he posessed in Albania, and now one of his Horcruxes. She is significant to him. Slytherin and all that.

@cowtowngrl Yah, dude, I know what you're asking, and I've answered it. Lord Voldemort is only about 26-28 years old when he kills Harry. Before Harry was born, during Voldemort's mid twenties he looked like we have discussed.
And yes, it is referenced in the books, by Dumbledore. The "job interview" bit is one of those... all of that is before Harry. They make references to his appearance several times, and yes: His appearance before Harry.

@DarthZimmeris Voldemort was in his 50s when he tried to kill Harry. He was born on December 31, 1926 and the Harry potter series take place in the 90s. Harry himself was born on July 31, 1980 and Voldemort tried to kill harry on October 31, 1981.
