So is there anyway to overclock a pc that is HP? I have the processor mentioned above but for some reason I feel it is not operating the way it should, slows down significantly when more than one person is logged on
well pretty much its not just the processor...you have to consider also RAM and what all things are running on the other account...that would usually slow a system down if you are running a lot of apps on one of the user accounts....and no you cannot overclock a locked computer like (HP, Dell, Compaq, Sony, etc.)
helow ther,, ive got a cooler w/c is coolermaster hypertx 3... my temp is playing on 18 to 19. if i overclocked it, will the temperature becomes cooler?
No sir....The temps become hotter...Pretty much when you run overclocked...your chip has to run at a Higher Frequency then it was designed...so thats why it would run hotter...
mmmm its a gts 250 ,i should be good enough for it , your processor is 2.4 ghz now ? , mine is 2.30 , how mutch you think i can overclock it ? but well im planning to buy this month a second gts 250 so then it should be bether also eh
about the fact that the 9800 GT is bether then the 250 gts , not true lol , the gts 250 is the beginning of the 200 series , hes almost the same as the 9800 gtx + a liddle bether im sure about that ^^,but i guess yes you running 200 mhz more then me and your OC your ram also that will be the point
is your machine store bought (HP, DELL, COMPAQ, ACER, etc.). If it is, then you cannot overclock because motherboard is locked. If it isnt, tell me the Motherboard name
well you cannot overclock your computer if it is store bought period. I only use bios to overclock...dont use programs though so i cannot help ya on that one
Why you all oc to 2.6 for core ? I use 235 fsb , and i have got 2.7ghz on core , without any problems .. When ill get cooler for my cpu, i will go on 3ghz for core ;)
There is an update for my bios, but it the download needs to be fucking bought. I hate when it comes to buying on internet. I wont update my bios now.
go to the manufactures website and see if there is a new update. My mobo has a program called @bios that checkes new updates for bios. It's a gigabyte motherboard btw. So you just have to see if there is a new update for it. so far I updated mine like 4 different times since i bought it
My Vista 32-bit shows my overclock well. But i think my motherboard is different. When i push the CPU frequenzy over 230 sometimes the processor starts and sometimes doesnt. When it does it says that my processor is 2.1 GHz. cpuz also shows the same. So do i have to increase
the voltages to make the processor overclock better
mine used to do that to. But after i updated my bios, it will post and then say that it didn't work and reverted back to stock, so you just have to mess around with the settings
well i was running on stock at that temp...you only have to check if your RAM itself will be able to. I use G.Skill DDR2 800 memory, and i have it OC @ 952mhz...so you have to be careful. If you never OC'ed your Chip, i wouldn't recommend it
Alot of people get 2.6.-2.9 out of these pretty easily, aftermarket fan and thermal paste will help out alot.
Also, sometimes CPU-Z shows the 8450 as an Opteron at the top (with Phenom 8450 in the Specification still), make sure to flash your BIOS to the latest or just prior to that to avoid any problems.
Remember, a solid PSU (550+) is a must, being stingy with cheap ones will hit you where it hurts later.
World record on air cooling for this chip is 3.215mhz at only 1.4v on the core.
yeah i just got a 550w Antec true power. i noticed that it thinks mine is a opteron (barcelona) but with my specs of the phenom...I dont want to push it on a fan, maybe when i decide to do liquid cooling on the chip and video card, then ill push it.
Now that's a -really, really good- PSU, quad 12v rails, that's a quality piece of kit 8)
Yea, alot get that Opteron mishap, flashing the BIOS will correct that & add to overall stability and improve clocking.
There's alot of good aftermarket AIr Cooling though, I strapped a Scythe to my 8450 as soon as I got it, as stock Phenoms are known to be very poor for cooling.
It idles in the mid 20's and you ca get loads for around & under £30 ($50) so it's definately worth it. 8)
mine on stock idles at around 27 degrees according to like Temperature programs....But when i look at the bios, it says its in upper 30's...close to 40...The PSU is really really quiet too......only thing i hate about it is, that it is not modular, so i have a lot of cables, i have to hide them on the other side of my Coolermaster cm690 since it has a lot of room :D
Yeah, that CPU temp in the BIOS isn't actually the CPU itself but the north bridge sensor, the 27C is your actual core.
Also version 1.5 of CPU-Z actually has a bug that shows Phenoms as Opterons regardless of BIOS flash, but I flash it as a rule of thumb :p
And yeah, nothing worse than a bundle of cables, i usually wrap 'em in a decent cable tidy and cable tie them just before they branch in their needed directions just to keep it tidy 8)
i just got mine clocked to 2.50ghz easily on the stock cooler. Idles at 19 C. And at full load, never have seen it go any higher than 23 C. I checked the site, and it will run up to 70 C. So im doing great, gonna get it to 2.60ghz soon.!
yes! its the same thing...so you spend less money to get the same performace out of the chip. but if you compare it to a tri-core vs. quad-core...then there is no comparison, the quad would be faster :D
@ anishmonteiro: I'd get a new PSU if I were you, I had a 450w that came with my case, it was seeing high temps not far below yours but I thought it was a mistaken sensor, then the PSU set on fire a few days later, hahahah! 8)
these are ma temp on load. Are they okie? worried about motherboard temp , voltage: Voltage CPU : 1.33 V +3.3V Voltage : 3.36 V +5V Voltage : 5.12 V +12V Voltage : 12.33 V VTT : 1.95 V VBAT : 3.14 V Processor Fan : 5492 rpm Processor Temperature : 45 °C Mainboard Temperature : 55 °C Power/Aux Temperature : 98 °C Processor : Thermal Diode AMD Phenom X3 (Core 1) : 44 C AMD Phenom X3 (Core 2) : 44 °C AMD Phenom X3 (Core 3) : 44 °C
well your PSU is running a little hot....but other then that...everything seems to be running alirght....how many fans are you runnning...need at least 2 intake and 2 exhaust for proper cooling of the board :D
thanx alot, i ve overclocked mine to 2.4Ghz, but my temp is at 52 deg C while playing which is okie.. however the cpu fans running at 5500 rpm. IS THAT SAFE? PLZ REPLY>> thanx
the 8450 is not the ideal cpu for overclocking as its multiplier is locked. Many othe components have to be accounted for such as HT Link and ram. I am currently running this proc at 2,624 Ghz and it was a bit of a hassel to get it there. Vista will show the frequency increase. I did not have to mess with the voltages to reach the speed I am currently running.
well if you overclock it too much without proper cooling, you can damage your processor or reduce the life of it. So you have to have right cooling for it. Like my friend as a intel i7 extreme and he has his chip to 4Ghz, and the processor is at 35 degrees idle. Liquid cooling. hope that helps!
It can do more of course. I just made a video to show just the basics. You would have to mess with the multiplier, memory clock, voltage, etc. I mean i can get mine up to 2.57Ghz if i wanted to just messing around with the setting a little.
What motherboard are you running this on, just curious. I have the same X3 Phenom and trying to figure out how to overclock it effectively like you did.
I can't make a video because I don't actually have one, but usually just simple settings will stop it from being stable, one thing I noticed in the video is that you want to set the PCIE Clock to 100mhz. Also you would want to lower the memory multiplier to get memory stability out of the problem for when you raise the mhz. I have heard that sometimes the phenoms have problems going really high on the frequency, but with one less core the x3's do better. I hope this helps. .
Well the new phenom's are comming out and AMD put them to the ultimate test, 6.3Ghz nitrogen cooled though :D. Quads. I'm waiting on the new ones to come out because they are 45nm instead of 65nm. So cooler and much higher overclocking capabilities. Even though my machine at 2.5 ghz was at 29 degrees when it was idle! :D..........weird!
There also making a x3 core phenom 2 that will be out in febuary but the quads are out tomarrow, there supposed to hit 4ghz with air and the x3's should go i nice little bit higher
they are also making phenom dual's...Weird sort of but they should be just as fast as the tri's. but ill get a quad...just to see what i can put it too. I'll try and get a zalman 120mm fan for it. Copper exlusivly
is your machine a custom built machine or is it a store bought machine(HP, Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc). The store bought machines have locked processors and cannot be overclocked. Only custom built machines can.
It will show as 2.1GHz under Vista because of Cool 'n' Quiet - if you disable this you will notice an increase in bench performance and will show the correct speed ;)
239 host clock for 2.5GHz with memory clock set to 3.33x :)
actually, i just overclocked it to 2.51 ghz. and the memory is at 800 mhz. so i managed to do it. I had a fellow phenom x3 guy show me. Just look at the last message from deadfredvideo.
Pretty much you can do it either on auto or do it on 10.5. I tried it both ways and it gave me the same results. And i dont have an extra fan. I just have one intake, 2 exhaust and then what the powersupply does. I may wana add some more to my case but it is up to you if you want to add more fans.
i need help, my 8450 makes my pc glitch as soon as i apply the overclock to 2.4 ghz
but it can take 2.2 and 2.3 ghz

It can do more of course. I just made a video to show just the basics. You would have to mess with the multiplier, memory clock, voltage, etc. I mean i can get mine up to 2.57Ghz if i wanted to just messing around with the setting a little.

What motherboard are you running this on, just curious. I have the same X3 Phenom and trying to figure out how to overclock it effectively like you did.

gigabyte MA790X-DS4. really easy to overclock.
veca1987 3 years ago
Thanks for the info. I will look into that one. My XFX 750a SLi is a pain to overclock. Can't even change the NorthBridge or memory clock.

hey man
thanks for the vid it was very usefull..know i can get a cheaper phenom and just overclock it!
thegamercave 3 years ago
Yup...That's what i did. I'm just waiting on the AMD Phenom II Quads. They run cooler and can overclock them more.

it shows the right clock speed if you disable Cool&Quiet:)

k, thanks

You can manualy put the voltage to 1.4v kick up the bus speed, lower the htt by one or 2 settings and go up to 3ghz no prob

Could you make a vid to show me...I tried every single combo and some worked but were not stable.
veca1987 3 years ago

:D..........weird!
veca1987 3 years ago
There also making a x3 core phenom 2 that will be out in febuary but the quads are out tomarrow, there supposed to hit 4ghz with air and the x3's should go i nice little bit higher
denrocks2 3 years ago
they are also making phenom dual's...Weird sort of but they should be just as fast as the tri's. but ill get a quad...just to see what i can put it too. I'll try and get a zalman 120mm fan for it. Copper exlusivly

gey guys my bios don't have an option for overclock :( what should i do?
IceBladezzzZ 3 years ago
is your machine a custom built machine or is it a store bought machine(HP, Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc). The store bought machines have locked processors and cannot be overclocked. Only custom built machines can.
veca1987 3 years ago
It will show as 2.1GHz under Vista because of Cool 'n' Quiet - if you disable this you will notice an increase in bench performance and will show the correct speed ;)
239 host clock for 2.5GHz with memory clock set to 3.33x :)
WIN :D
Great video, Aaron :)

btw, i thought that the 8450 could be oced at 2,6 ghz. you need more cooling for that?
pascual92 3 years ago
i tried but couldnt do it!
veca1987 3 years ago
hehe k.
see ya. merry xmas btw
pascual92 3 years ago
actually, i just overclocked it to 2.51 ghz. and the memory is at 800 mhz. so i managed to do it. I had a fellow phenom x3 guy show me. Just look at the last message from deadfredvideo.
veca1987 3 years ago
thank you very much!
so, i did not get this thing..-.. you put there 226, its supposed that it will be multipled by 10.5, right?
you dont have any extra fan, right?
pascual92 3 years ago
Pretty much you can do it either on auto or do it on 10.5. I tried it both ways and it gave me the same results. And i dont have an extra fan. I just have one intake, 2 exhaust and then what the powersupply does. I may wana add some more to my case but it is up to you if you want to add more fans.
veca1987 3 years ago
When I get it will my multiplyer already be 10.5?
adamski895RS 3 years ago
I believe so. I just got mine set to auto and it set it by itself. I also managed to underclock it the first time i was trying...it was funny :D.
veca1987 3 years ago
Thanks so much, i'm just going to set me clock to the same as yours. at least then i will know i safe.
