  • @qoas001 Are you serious? I've never worked at a NEW car lot, but I worked at a shop that sold used cars, and we'd easily spend 1-2k on a car, and flip it for 3-5k lol...

    Hell my friend that worked at a local Mitsubishi dealer would make anywhere from $300-$1500 per car he sold, and you know damn well the dealership was making more then that. Come on now, you can't fool everyone.

    And if the place you work for really doesn't make good money, then they/you are doing something wrong.

  • Sold cars for 2 months, worst job ever. Management / closer would make the deals after I worked with the customers. I did not even know what i could sell the car for. Most cars I sold I made under 100 bucks. One time 25 bucks for a 17000 car.

    Every time I asked a question I was asked why I wanted to know that, Just do your job. oh yea and cold calling. Yea call a person out of the blue and see if they want to come down and buy a car today...Are you kidding me. What the hell is that.

  • So.... Let me ask you a question. If you were selling your car and two different people offered you two different amounts for your car, would you take the one that was lower? No! You would take the offer from whoever was offering you the most money for your car. Same thing. Do people not expect businesses to make a profit?

  • there is a M,S.R.P (manufacturer's) suggested retail price.negotiations is then what the dealer is willing to give up in profit. PROFIT is not a BAD word!! it is what keeps the economy going. With out any kind of "profit" there is no Business .....and that is what is wrong with america today! before the Internet customer just went in to there local dealer and drove off in there NEW car "HAPPY!!" Now everyone think the dealer is just there to rip them off.....NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!

  • Someone told me that he was shopping for a car, agreed on a price and they asked him how he was gonna finance it. He replied that he was paying cash, and they responded, "That's gonna be $500 added to the price then", because they wouldn't make any money on the financing. He walked out.

  • Some states do have cooling off periods for car sales, up to 3 days in some places. Check your local laws.

  • First of all, you can not sell someone a car when they do not even want the car. Second, you can not sit someone down for financing when they do not know what the hell is going on. Third, you do not continue to bother a customer when they have already told you they want to shop around !!!!

  • The only time you get a FINAL price is when you are finished buying the car. You will never know how much you are really paying for a car... until you drive it off the lot. Salesmen will say anything to get you to come back. Honest and professional salesmen don't promise unrealistic discounts.

  • Just so the guy with the accent knows how much of an idiot he is, Saturn does not always charge sticker for the cars. Its just an ad. Oh and most people cannot go for a 4 year finance term because their monthly payment will be out of whack so most people go 60 months or 72.

  • Yes, but most people who buy Saturns are dummies anyway. Why in the world would someone pay inflated sticker price for a piece of crap like a Saturn. Their former competitors like Ford Escort, Dodge Neon etc. were much better cars and because their prices were negotiable, nobody paid retail. People saved thousands. But these cream puff customers were afraid to deal, and wanted a nice "experience" so they paid a premium for an overpriced inferior car. Saturn is almost gone. Good riddance.

  • You know what is sad? What is sad is that the last two posters are why car sales people get a bad name because of amateurs like them. Not all car salespeople are the same. There are alot of us out there who have spouses,families, friends, etc. and a part of our community and we are Professionals. We will be at the same dealership for years to come. We will treat you like gold and continue to cultivate a great relationship and actually some of our awesome customers become personal friends.

Car dealers always cheat, and that's okay, but they never want to bargain. I've never paid dealer invoice for a car, much less MSRP. Anyone who does, I don't care what kind of car it is, is a tool or a fool.

If you want to do better than that fine, then YOU negotiate that price. DO NOT expect the dealer to negotiate against themselves!

  • I just had to post on this one. Its always the peple that come in the dealership and cut the hell out of the deal that" think" they got ripped off. Its our job to hold gross, let someone come to your job and try to neg. your hourly pay or something like that, you would hit the roof. Another thing, if someone starts cutting the price on a car on my lot then i start cutting things off the car. I plan to give them a FAIR deal not a big steal.

  • how is it ugly? the only reason a strong economy ever existed in the first place was because of profit. And if a customer lets me make profit I am far more likely to want to help them down the road. I am very good at what I do and as a resuly my time is worth something. Car sales people are not voulenteers. They deserve to make a living just like everyone else in the world. And if you do not agree with that then I ask you who the real thieves are.

  • i got fucked by my own "FRIEND" when i went to buy a new car from him. after a few days, i knew i could have gotten a better deal. but, now i know for the next time.

  • look its easy for the total amount of what you financed is what the payment is based off of so lets do the math if your total number after interest is 20k then for a standard 60month term lets say you want 200dollars a month right well 200x6=12000 then math says your payment needs to be higher to reach the 20k number right?So more betweeen 300-340 should cover it im drunk give me a break on math.FOr the WHOLE TOTAL OF 20,000 so imagine the payment if the total is 40-50ka 60mont term ppl want?

People behave that way because they've never been punched in the face for doing so. Do us a favor, and piss off the wrong person - the average emergency services response time is 17 minutes, which is more than enough time for you to bleed out.

  • nothing wrong with trying to make a reasonable profit on a car. problem is most people assume you are making so much more. and if they know that you aren't really making any, they justify it by assuming you will make it up on the next person.

  • All of my customers are happy with me (obviously) and even the people who have not bought from me still like me. I have gotten bitched at more from my managers for not saying wise ass comments to customers, I do not work for that company anymore because I refuse to be a jerk, even if the customer is a prick to begin with. I dont lower myself to that level for aybody.

  • I do not agree with dealers selling vehicles for several thousands of dollars over what the average value is. That is not the way to do business, even though its legal and they can do that, they wont last long.
