Great question. How much would people be willing to pay to buy into Medicare? We could comfortably afford $200 a month for a family of 3.(we were paying Kaiser $1,200 a month, the same as our mortgage before we dropped the plan) Some idiots would scream that buying into Medicare to gain affordable health care would be a form of taxation. God help us.
The answer I have heard from some in congress is that "it would not be fair to the insurance companies"... I can NOT stand to see the words "fair" and "health insurance" in the same sentence.
A more sincere answer would be: "you can't get a public option because I care more about my campaign contributions than human beings".
Very good question by the way, nobody has really answered it yet.
