that was the time Germans actually played for Germany.. today the sport just became a big huge advertising commercial; buying foreign players because it takes too long to grow good domestic ones. This wasn't the issue back in the day, that is why the Netherlands had all dutch players, Germany had all Germans, Italy al Italians, England all English, Yugoslavia all Yugoslavs, etc. Today, all I need to do is point to France.

@bachjupp Thats just pure bs. If some1 lives all his life in a country, speaks the language perfectly, or is maybe even born there, how can you not consider him having this nationality. I dont think a nationality only depends by the ones of your parents. And what about if some1 has 2 nationalites , because his parents have a different one. Obviously you go for the more successful nation, or if your not such a good player, for the less succesful one so you can play.

I was 14 at the time and thought Holland were the best after their performance against Brazil. But they tried to humiliate the Germans and that combination of arrogance and naivety is so self-destructive.

Ja, die Vorarbeit von Bonhof war schon Weltklasse und extrem abgbrüht vorgetragen wenn man bedenkt, daß er zu dem Zeitpunkt gerade mal 22 Jahre alt war. Der TV Kommentar war zeitgemäß und typisch Rudi Michel. Richtig geil kommt Müllers Tor wenn man sich dazu den Radiokommentar von Heribert Faßbender anhört.

Damals sollte man halt so neutral wie möglich kommentieren.Ich finds immernoch besser als der Steinzeitton den man Anfang der 80er immer hören musste.
