The first school shown Intake High School Arts College is the one I use to go to. I remember getting a letter sent home because of this:') Its now called West Leeds Academy though. Its just kids being kids. Nobody ever messed about in the lessons with teachers they knew wouldn't let them get away with it. I'm not saying they're perfect angels either...

There does seem to be a dumbing down of the masses. Not sure who or what is to blame for it exactly though. Seems to be a conglomeration of everything. Government, school system itself, parents, media, business...all seem to be a part. I notice that schools here in Canada seem to have forgotten all about spelling and grammar. Even the teachers make regular and simple mistakes. There is too much emphasis to learn higher end Mathematics and not enough on basic language abilities.

Behaior isn't actually getting worse, it's just a myth. Pupils will always take advantage, where there are idiots who refuse to implement any behavior strategies or classroom management skills. this has been the case since the 1800s!

all over the uk in schools kids are getting worse look at the world around them . look at how this country is rotting from within . a few months back a teacher in a relatively nice school almost killed a pupil by battering him senseless . if guns were legal here or more easy to get this country would be notorious . seriously . we just get battered or stabbed up mostly

i live in leeds uk , intake high school is not a bad school . my old high school john smeaton high school closed down a few years back after repeatedly failing its ofsted inspections , the worst school in this city is either south leeds high or city of leeds high school trust me

The large problem that I see is that she is not even TEACHING.

They give the kids papers and expect the kids to teach themselves..

The teacher and kids need to communicate the whole class period and teach each other, anything.

It's annoying and ignorant for distant individuals from a completely different background to the kids in the video to come out with primitive crap like 'beat em' and 'chuck em out'.

A greater emphasis on ensuring teachers exert dominance over their pupils would have a greater effect in the short-term. Body language is the key, regardless of the teacher's powers, kids recognise the authority of a dominant character. Don't 'ask', 'tell'.

The clear solution here is STABILITY.

For the teachers to know where they stand, and what to do with problem students, a fixed set of rules.

Then the kids will know where they stand and that is the most important and simplest way to have happy, stable kids ready to learn.

Becoz frankly 28 supplies in Year 10 GCSE is ridiculous, criminal even. They teachers are inconsistent so the children will be misbehave. The teachers are like that cos of experiments with the education system in 10 years.

After 8 years of teaching I've finally had enough of deteriorating pupil behaviour. On paper, there are the sanctions but they are rarely enforced. Poor management is a major factor. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy. I have a right to do my job without having to listen to foul language and abuse on a daily basis! I have been off work for 2 months now...and it is sheer bliss!

I can just agree with those of you who say that it is definitely not the teacher's fault if classes are like the ones in the video. In my opinion, those kids have real problems (maybe because of their education at home or because of social circumstances) and the sector of education shows just one part of the effects this situation has. The solution would be not only to improve standards at school but to cope with social problems, such as poverty, immigration and difficult family situations.

I can't speak for the UK, but here in the U.S..with all the needless things our Gov. pays for... (limo rides..hotels for bigwigs and such) why not put security in each classroom? Teachers stay safe, students forced to listen. Find an entertaining way to teach them. Along the lines of Schoolhouse Rock or something that makes it a bit more fun. You would have a winning combo.

As a kid with two parents as teachers, you wouldn't believe the amount of sympathy I have for them and others in their profession. It is in no way the fault of teachers for slipping standards, it is the government which hamstrings them at every opportunity with needless regulations, bureaucracy and cuts in materials. . It's disgraceful, and right wing scum like the Daily Mail should be ashamed for accusing the teachers for this disaster of an education system.

Security in each classroom is as much as a waste as the limo rides, etc. that you mention. Spend that budget on salary increases to incent teachers to stay & give them proper supplies and materials.

Take it from me--I used to teach in an inner city in New Jersey. $35K in 1990 was nowhere near enough money for me to stay, esp. when I could get the same money for teaching in the suburbs.

If there were any gods, I would thank them all that I have now retired. My life as a teacher even in quite smart schools and colleges became increasingly stressful in the last two decades. My advice: take up any profession except teaching.
