I can't get this working with Arabic. Quite annoying actually since the cancel button doesn't work either. When it gets stuck on analysing I have to kill the app
sorry buddy, but unless you have your hands on cutting edge military hardware, your portable device probably doesn't have anywhere near the processing power to do the above. So when, you ask? Maybe in half a decade.
That is AWESOME. That is amazing work with the google goggles.
One day, this will not require a trip to the server to do the work. The device will do it by itself, if you just download the database first. Get to it!
You have to put on CLosed Captioning - it's hilarious. Googles own Closed Captioning translates the opening sentence as "Muhammed of the Sciences that who doing results administrators" and the restaurant menu as "space and that was what a was of what she may strip". WTF!?!
Oh my god, yes. Absolutely HILARIOUS! I also really like "carrot recognition" towards the end. And there's also talk of "civil war homes" or something. It's just awesome.
This looks awesome! Google Goggles is a cool name for a visual translator! When there are actual goggles involved I hope they'll do more than just translate! I'd expect a full HUD with features like zoom, night vision, infra-red and maybe X-Ray? I can't wait for when speech recognition and translation will lead to the Google Babble! (The logical choice of name rally after this and the whole Babel fish paradigm!)
babelshot app for iphone already does this. Pretty acurate if lightning and fonts are ok, and it uses google translator. But probably google will come up with better image recognition.
Finally, I've been waiting for you to do this for ages.
But you should also allow people to upload a picture from a computer (ie, its note sent from the phone, but it is taken by another computer, shunted over to a computer and via the browser for instance, sent to be decoded)
I would imagine with 4g up and coming, real time translations is already being developed.

and when are we gonna have something that doesn't revert to servers, a local on the machine software?
