It's not that he's slow, it's just that Marshawn likes to dance around more than just burning guys. But that is why he always makes guys miss because he CAN dance.

Lynch has elite lateral quickness and speed though and that's how he breaks his long runs, by getting defenders out of position. He doesn't have great straight line top end speed, but he still runs a 4.5 40. He's definitely more than fast enough. He's a perfect style runner for the weather up in Buffalo. Thurman Thomas wasn't that fast either and he did pretty well if you ask me. He was inducted into the HOF in 2007. :D

If you want to get technical he ran a 4.46 at the combine, which is a lot closer to a 4.5. Adrian Peterson "only" ran a 4.4 flat. The point was that Lynch still has enough long field speed to break a long run, but it's not going to happen that often because of his running style. He's not a downhill runner when he gets into the open field. He runs laterally and makes people miss tackles.

Well the electronic timed 40 is also not as accurate as people think. It's started by hand, so it's never 100% right. That's why every scout and coach have their own stopwatch, and Lynch was timed between 4.38-4.45 by hand.
