  • THIS is music.

  • It would be nice if someone would post this video with the first minute or so cropped off. Al Stewart is an arrogant ass

  • wow that's interesting. She was so thin and it's unique not hearing her fine vocals

  • I didn't really know anything about this... it's incredible and awesome! Thank you and,of course, thank to the fantastic (as usual)Tori!!

  • Awesome! wow..real gem of a video..Tori rocks..good on her! and with Al Stewart..love this song!!

  • I'm a bit old to be typing "OMG!" but holy crap, blow me down!! I've never seen this before. Didn't even know it existed.

It's like opening an old love letter and discovering that there was a letter tucked inside the letter. And you've just found it and you're just reading it now, all these years later.

  • Tori Amos is such an expressive performer. Her smiles. Her energy etc.

  • The way tori plays when she's done I bet the piano bench was drenched with her pussy juice.

  • its crazy so much time has gone by i love tori as time has gone on but in the beginning like alot of artist is always the most magical

  • sorry i didnt get the whole story i dont get it why did she have to hide her real identity???

  • tori's real name is Myra Amos

  • This is such an incredible rare clip, THANK YOU so much for posting, it means so much to me as I am a collosal fan Xxx

  • tori and al, oh my!!

  • Tori is so damn hot.

  • Amazing. Blows me away every time I see it. Tori rules.

  • so rare.she was goofy acting and hot at the same time.so cool,so friggin talented.the whole package.

  • This is a very funny story! I wonder if you call Tori "Viliana Tchaikovskaya" today she will remember this. I also wonder why she didnt use this name for one of her alter egos, hehe! I cant believe they had to invent this fake identity to let Tori play...she's laughing at the video so it must have been a very funny moment. Did the audience realize later that this Viliana became Tori Amos later?

  • tori's playing is so incredible it sends chills up and down my spine and makes my eyes want to leak!!! tori's part in this is one of the greatest LIVE performances that i have ever had the pleasure of seeing. i'm just sorry the sound wasn't A LOT BETTER!!

  • 2 of my favorites, thanks!

  • Tori was born in the Year of the Cat (Rabbit)

  • Does anyone know why he called her a Russian musician who can't speak English. I don't get it.

  • Little earthquakes was on the brink of being released and she didn't want to be recognised. Or so it's said.

  • I have read in, several places, that she had a work Visa problem and that is why he didn't use her real name. And, most people would not have recognized her back then. How cool would it have been to be there?!

  • If you had clicked on the "more" part of "about this video" on this very page i put exactly why in my description when i put this video up almost 2 years ago.

  • That's a truly ass-kicking combo right there, that is.

  • Wow, what a cool vintage clip. This goes up there with the Cornflake Girl commercial in the before-they-were-stars clips!

  • i always loved this song, and now i love it even more!!! thanks!

  • That is the most incredible rock piano perfomance I've ever witnessed! She's awesome!

  • WOW! In August of 91 I started seing fliers up for a Tori show. At the time I had not heard her music. Soon after I heard a song on the radio, thinking I like this! Fortunately, the g/f of a co-worker was in charge of voulenteers at the venue, and asked if she could get me in. SHE DID! I got to see the show, met her, talked to her, got her signature, and a hug. I have been a fan ever since. That was the first of 5 times that I have seen her play.

  • This vid is a piece of music history. Thanks so much for posting it!!!

    Rhys

  • well put: a piece of music history! thaaaaaaaaaanks for posting. love Tori..

  • this is great.tori at the beginning of her career.wow she is hot there.i have always liked that song.wheres the cello?hehehe .she was gonna give silent all these years to al stewart.he said honey thats your song.keep it.good advice.a true friend.i love to see tori jamming like that.

  • What the hell is he doing at 6:45??

  • "We've imported um, a pianist for the next song. Let me make sure we're in tune... ... Anyway, we have um, Viliana Tchaikovskaya, who is a Russian pianist who knows not a word of English, and knows not much about English music, apart from the fact that she's learnt one of my songs. Will you please welcome Miss Viliana Tchaikovskaya!

    Hahaha

  • here it is boys and girls: the meaning of the year of the cat for those who do not know. In the chinese calendar and other asian nations, the year of the cat comes every 12 years, and it is supposed to be a year without stress. 1975 was a year of cat. So there you go, now you know. How many of you did not know this? please answer.

  • There is no "Year of the Cat" in Chinese astrology. 1975 was Year Of The Rabbit

  • miaoww.

  • The Year of the Cat comes from Vietnam, not from China.

  • Cat 1903 1915 1927 1939 1951 1963 1975 1987 1999 2011 2023

Those born in the year of the Cat (sometimes known as the Rabbit) are often refined and socially adept, which makes them all the better to have as friends. These clever folk can sometimes be seen as a bit old-fashioned or even aloof, and at worst they can be thin-skinned and devious

  • I am a Rabbit, and sometimes they call Rabbit a Cat, it is interchangable in Chinese Astrology. Some books will call it Rabbit and others Cat.

  • this is great. except for the beginning.

    mumblemumblemumblewhisper. what? mumblemumblemumble...

    ah well.

  • Aww that was great. thanks for sharing that.

  • thanks for posting something i have not seen befor of al stewart , tori amos what a bonus i think al is so underated as a singer/songwriter thanks again ToriAmosMcCartney.

  • Tori's mentioned that this song is a tough one to play, and I don't know how often Al has done this with a piano player. I'd like to know who filmed it and later realized they had something special. I hope she does an all-instrumental CD one of these days.

  • wow, you have some really good stuff!

  • Oh, shes so fuckin cute.

  • This is an incredible performance between two gifted musicians. Thank you for having this here.

  • perfectly phrased!

  • Shit man, I finally find an Al Stewart video outside that other Year of the Cat performance, and it isn't even ABOUT him. What the hell? That's like mentioning Jesus only twice in the Bible.

  • It looks like she is having a hard time not singing with. Her presence outshines him. She gives the piano portion of that song a life of its own.

  • That's a horrid story. I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope all is well now.

  • When I was young they tould my parents to keep a radio on in my hospital room after I had been run over by a truck. This song was in heavy airplay then, I was in a coma for seventeen days. I simply adore the song in it's original state.Mayebe something cerebral, yet, I was overcome by the pianists contribution to this performance.

  • This is really a moment in time. I can't believe this was actually videotaped. Very amazing early performance of Tori. She's having so much fun!!!

  • This is wonderful. So great to see her so happy and really wailing on the piano; just incredible. Thank you so much for posting this! It's nice to see her lost in the music like this.

  • Noteably the whole "Me guitar is out of tune. Make sure t you pike the most accessible key to tune by 1 khz on the end to tune eh?

  • Post note: Those knowlegable of guitar/music; note; he clams his performace anyway early on.

  • Even at that youg age and level of exposure/ experience she was still able to outperform (him) Al Stewart at his ow game. This being said by an old fan of Al's.

  • Actually, Al is very good at sharig a stage. His whole point on bringing her out was to give her exposure, so he was going to let her shine. If he had WANTED to he could have taken the spotlight from her in a second.

  • Hey I'm just here to stir the Al Stewart Shitpot! Actually I'd like see a performance of Electric L.A. Sunset. Don't send out the Al Stewart Police. =:^)

  • Ha now you sound like a Tori hater. Tori's a prodigy beyond any possible doubt...if anything they might be equal. It's impossible to completely strip her from the spotlight. Mozart couldn't do that.

  • Did you just compare Mozart to Tori Amos. I think she's very talented but Mozart is an international icon through various generations and in all different social classes. There is just no comparison.

  • wonderful - thankyou!

  • lol That is so hilarious that they pretended she was Russian!! Tori never stops surprising me :)
