  • Listen to my story. This may be our last chance.

  • It's really cool. Could you make one of the Skyrim's song?

  • great vid but whoa u look just like one of my friends :P keep up the awesome theremin work! u r a master :D

  • i'd imagine it wouldn't sound as good without the soundtrack in the background.

  • That is.... that is... that is... one of the most beutiful ways to interprete such a great song! simply amazing!

  • Brilliant!

  • Thank you for this. Thank you not for the choice of song, nor the elegance in your composure. Thank you for keeping something so obscure and wonderful as the theremin alive. By the end of my life, things like this will be dead and forgotten.

  • Tidus: "AH HA HA HA.."

    Yuna: "Hehehe."

Tidus: "HA HA HA HA HA HA"

    Tidus and Yuna: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"

  • @cProg1x lol, god damn dubs.

  • @cProg1x Mordekaiser "HUEUEUEUEUEUE"

  • AH! HE DISAPPEARSS

  • Thank you for being one of the few that play this instrument.

  • I bought a keytar to be different, but now I want a theremin lol

  • I think the Beach Boys used the theremin in their music. Instrument goes back a bit. A band called Ulver used it on their fantastic Shadows of the Sun album too, very sad sounding. Great job dude,

  • @pineapplepeanuts The instrument used by the Beach Boys was in fact not a theremin, but a similarly-sounding instrument called the 'Tannerin'. The tannerin is played by moving a sliding bar along a variable resistor.

  • @Nix6p No kiddin, I'd love to have one of those :-)

  • What's the name of this instrument?

  • @EliteSasuke clues in the title 'theremin' :)

  • I think I heard this theremin instrument before but.. it is not so famous like other instrument...

    wow so beautifull

  • What's with the sudden and random 'gorilla hands'?

  • cool (:

  • why are his hands always distorting?

  • @tonderus8 It is because of the way the video is compressed. The kind of compression used does not produce good results for moving parts of the image (because it is haghly compressed). You see it just with the hands because it is the only thing that realy moves here.

  • @tonderus8 That happens when you play theremin too much

  • dude i give u infinite/5 for this u r incrediable plus this is my top 15 favorites in FFX and X-2 keep it up

  • incredible version !!!

  • Beautiful!

  • This song is so nostalgic for me D:

  • This is the most beautiful rendition of "To Zananarkand" I have ever heard in my life.

  • @Snakemast345 Agreed, no other versions got anything on this one

  • PLEASE DO THE MEGA MAN 3 THEME! THAT WOULD BE SOO BAD ASS!

  • @KenderikGamer Theremin can't do staccato.

  • @OriginalAkivara hahaha It dosnt have to be perfact :P

  • its funny how....only the pixels are messed up where his hands are....and never anywhere else...like his face or whatever......it's like he's got the Devil's hand! RAWR!

  • HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO PAY TO BUY A GODLY INSTRUMENT LIKE THIS

Morshu: You don't have enough. Trust me.

  • @GoldenPickaxe For that one, probly around 3000$... but you can get cheap theremin for about 80-100$, won't be as good as this one though :P

  • I have a shivers...awesome@@!!!

  • Dude, seriously? i like this theme better now :)

    THANKS!

  • so many people that play this overdo on the vibrato but your's is perfect =)

  • @DarkJoker7 Yeah, one guy posted a vid on YT on a tutorial for a theramin. He said that vibrato sounds much better. WHUT?! No, it makes the song worst. In my opinion, this instrument is like a violin or hi-piched cello. Try wobbling a bow on a violin on purpose and see what your music director does to you.

  • @Snakemast345 Some cases call for vibrato, but not all. It's the ability to transition between the two smoothly that really matters.

  • you my friend need a bigger stage!

  • God called and he wants his theremin player back.

Such a crazy instrument. It must be so hard at first keeping your hands still without pressing on strings or anything but you seem to have no trouble. I have just discovered that thing but right away I recall hearing that instrument being played on Whole Lotta Love before the solo.

  • dude has nothing on Jimmy Page

  • @hemet92544 Jimmy Page sucks at theremin. All he does is wave his hands in a random fashion while Randy (the dude in the video) actually plays a song. Now go troll somewhere else.

  • @c4r50n1 your momma was a troll, on your daddy....., try copying this into search, bitch.......... "Jimmy "Wicked" Page"

  • be still my heart.... so very beautiful ... in so very many ways.....

  • Wow, impressive!

  • this is awesome.

  • hi, this is a nice piece ^^

does anyone know how much a theremin will cost?

  • beautiful with this magic instrument!! i would like playing as well!!

  • Pretty nifty rig you got there. Bonus points for covering FFX!

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • this is so kewl kennnnyyyyyyyyyyyyy (cartman voice)

  • I.. WANT... ONE!

  • Beautiful, this is my favorite theme from all the FF games, i would go to sleep humming this and the song of spira when i was playing it, absolutely amazing.

  • sounds very 'eastern'

also reminds me of the comfort and warmth of mr rogers

  • @sacan1 Mr rogers in a bloodstain sweater, it was the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny.

  • Is this guy famous in theremin circles? cuz he is amazing

  • I've watched you play, and I've watched a child try to play it... I want to play it myself, but, I don't think I'll ever get to such beauty. Such shame and sadness.

  • god, that song is so beautiful it almost made me cry

  • @MrSamus101

No joke man. I got chills listening to this.

  • @beasta every time, every single F***ing time.

  • When my wife and I got married we had this song play in our wedding.

This song is definitely one of the best Final Fantasy songs ever made.

  • i dont know what THAT is, but it sounds beautiful (':

  • i wonder who really disliked this i mean id personally want to meet them to see if they really missed the like button or if theyr just fucktards who appreciate nothing in life

  • This is quite incredible! I've been watching your videos and you keep taking my breath away with these beautiful pieces. Keep it up Randy!

  • his hands are very jerky. I think he may be faking. Then again, it could just be crappy video quality

  • @darkdudironaji some people when they play, don't move their hands, but more their fingers, and since he was articulating the notes quite well, I would think that it would require some jerky movements to separate the notes so that the notes don't run all together.

  • @atherrien95 i guess that makes sense.

  • @darkdudironaji thats him adding vibrato

  • The original normally gets me (whoever composed it already manage to make it tear-jerking) and nothing really gets to me (as if people don't say that enough in this thread). This was that and then some. I commend you. Great work!

  • I find it weird to say this but the way you played that song.. It brought tears to my eyes for the sound was so.... breath taking.

  • DONT GET THIS INSTRUMENT HOW DOES IT WORK

  • @sskeyblade

    kill the caps bro

  • @sskeyblade it works when you move you're fingers ^_^

  • @13BLACKKAT13ily spirit fingers lol, all shit talking aside thats cool

  • incredible

  • Wow, that's a spooky instrument. It sounds like a person humming, to me!

  • Your intonation is very good for an instrument of such versality!

  • do u take requests =o. harry potter theme would sound kinda cool. that or halloween town. u know all the classics =p

  • If any song can move me to tears...

  • IM THE 200000th VIEWER! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!! LLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Are they dynaudio speakers?

  • Great video!

  • Dude thats awesome. How did you record The Thermin? i actually want to build/buy one but i don't have a clue which or how so can you fill me in? Is it possible to have one that you can have different sounds to it like a MIDI Thermin lol

  • This is an extremely difficult instrument.

  • I think Moog does Theremins 2

  • wait a min.... doesn't it stand "Moog" on that instrument? in that case its not a theremin. This is a Moog synthesizer created originaly by Robert Moog.

  • @DJCOPPY2K9 actually i believe it is a moog etherwave pro theremin.

  • This particular instrument is made by a Russian scientist named Léon Theremin (θɛrəmɪn) , 1919. 1920 he moved to USA & played in an orcestra. He returned to Sovjet (Russia) & died 1993.

There is also a documentary film made called "Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey"

    released after his death

  • How does this instrument work? I can't believe I've only just seen it.

  • the two silver bars are sensors, his left hand controls the volume and his right controls the pitch. it works by creating to radio signals, the distance from the source, the two bars, interferes with those signals, and the base translates that into sound.

someone correct me if i am wrong

  • @benthedragon That seems to make the most sense, but how would the bass translate the sound? It isn't like a sound card inside a PC.

  • @Snakemast345 the closer your hands are to the bar the larger in the interference is. so you create an algorithm that associates a tone (or a volume level in the case of his left hand) with the level of interference. the process of detecting the level of interference is the hard part but the value it spits out can be easily translated into a tone

  • @benthedragon You're on the right track, but not quite right. It actually has nothing to do with radio signals, the two bars act as plates of a capacitor, and his hands work as the other plates. By moving his hands closer or further away, it changes the capacitance of the circuit which then alters the frequency of internal oscillators. It's pretty much the same principle as what you said, but different inputs.

  • @jeremyliu122 a magnetic field by the antenna and the iron piece at his right hand

by coming closer it produces more resistance and with that energy that is converted to sound.

  • Goosebumps... After 100 times I watched this...

  • that may be the weirdest but coolest instrument i've ever seen

  • Whoa. Wonderful sounding instrument... FINAL FANTASY=LOVES YOU

  • this is quite lovely though sounds a bit lonely.

    lovely, nonetheless.

  • sounds like a ghost theme

  • wtf is this instrument

  • Truly Beautiful, love it the more I hear it.

  • Fantastic work.

  • as lonely or lonelier sounding than a solo violin, beautiful.

  • why does the light change ?

  • This is kinda out there, but if you've ever heard about Tai Chi or believe in it. The area around his hands are manifesting energy through his concentration. It would just explain the weird visual disruption.

  • or it may be that the whole video is skipping, but, as his hands are the only moving thing on screen, that is where the disruption is apparent.

  • No.

  • its so calming...i love it :=)

  • theremin is crazy hard to play >.>

  • This is very very beautiful.I never thought that theremin can produce so nice sound.

Thank you for making this video!

  • great awesome

  • Precious theme in a precious instrument, thanks for this enyoing give.

  • This is the first time i have ever heard and seen a theremin. I have to say it sounded so beautiful. At first i was confused but the sound of the theremin sounds as if it is one's voice and the sound of the piece played was enchanting.

  • i personally was amazed when i first saw it myself. i went out and bought one. its on its way right now and i plan to perfrom infront of an audiance soonn

  • you should play this together with a guitarist/pianist.

  • precioso

  • oh shit.

I got to learn me a theremin.

  • Learned how to play this on piano recently, and hearing this makes me regret learning piano.

  • this is.. amazing!

    it sounds just wonderful!!!

  • Amazing is all I can say. If you don't watch the video it sounds like a woman is right there singing it. Absolutely beautiful.

  • I've only just started browsing thereminist videos tonight but you seem to have the most physical and emotional control of this sensitive instrument. Your pitch and vibrato are superb.

  • @didgeboy287 Playing one is an incredibly emotional experience if you do it right.

  • wow... that sounds so wonderful *cries*

  • Great intonation, good work!

  • *tears*

  • Watching this video gave me goosebumps. Awesome work man, consider me subscribed.

  • Randy George, you do know we can get married.

    LOL.

  • this is... so amazing, I'm more than impressed, and I love final fantasy BTW

  • beatufull

  • Woooooooow! This sounds great, sweet and touching!

  • this is a real musician

sorry not to see him in a label.

  • WoW ! nice

  • exactly

  • A theremin is an electronic instrument with two antennae that operate according to where your hands are in accordance to the specific antenna. Usually the right hand controls pitch, and left controls volume.

  • its a devise that plays different sound depending on shape and distance of your hands

  • Well....I'd have to disagree when you say shape, because what people do with their hands is because of their muscle memory and it is much more effective to move a finger than to move your arm back and forth, It works strictly to the distance of where (how close) your hands are and objects around it.

  • Wow the song sounds really right on the Theremin! :D Thinking about it, I guess those kind of videogame songs go well with the instrument since they are kinda high-pitched, constant notes that flow one into another. Since the Theremin can't cut and jump to a note from another but must "slide" between tonalities with the changing movement of your hands.

..Oh well, I'm trying to explain what I'm thinking but I sure don't really know proper terms. I hope I'm still kinda making sense. XD Good job!

  • dude.... When I read the title of this video I immediately thought "OMG this song is runied" but then the vid played and I felt like a douche. This is a really beautiful cover.

FFX PWNS (and so does your theremin skills :D )

  • Well that's because you are a douche, for automatically thinking it was going to suck.

I'm just kidding don't comment me back with a rant.

    Roflroflrofl.

  • I love this song. FFX is my favorite FF game.

  • omg!!!! someone call the police! a man was playing the theramin beautifully, and he vanished into thin air! :'(

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So, every single sound is produced by the theremin ? or it's like an electronic piano where it just produce loops and beats automatically (I hope you understand what I mean) ?

  • yea it just has the frequency range of all human hearing.

it doesnt create loops or beats its just your basic synth before it had a piano keys

  • ya just the wooooaahahhhallalalaaaaaaawwhaooooooooooooolaaooowalahhhhalahoooo is the theremin

  • Only the constant sound is generated by the theremin. There's a keyboard track, but on a theremin the left antenna controls volume and the right (vertical) one controls the pitch. Great instrument and really simple to build from scratch at home.

  • no the piano sounds that you're hearing in the backround is playing constantly by itself. The Theremin is the changing sounds

  • Absolutely beautiful. Definately bring some tears to your eye! :)

  • WOW. That was perfect! I love that game, song, and I love theremins. You are amazing!

  • I must admit. I'm impresssed. I've never seen a Theremin before. I've been playing music for a while and I want to learn to play one of these sometime. Keep up the good work. Do you happen to take any requests?

  • WHOA

    that was amazing. *___*

made me wanna cry. absolutely beautiful.

  • I suck at playing the FF games.

But I'm awesome at loving the FF music.

    Great Job on theremin, man.

    Peace.

  • wow

  • Wow...

  • great job

  • What IS theremin, exactly? Like how does it work?

  • There are two antennas, one vertical and one horizontal. The pitch is determined by your hand's proximity to the vertical antenna. The closer your hand, the higher the pitch. The volume is determined by your other hand's proximity to the horizontal antenna. It's extremely hard to play it as well as he does in this vid, but it looks and sounds absolutely magical!

  • That's so amazing. I wonder how it detects the hands.

  • It has to do with capacitance. Your hand and the rods/antennas, together act as a capactor. Electral circuitry finishes the job.

  • Insane! Where can I find one, and for how much?

  • Look on Musician's Friend, the highest one is about $500 the lowest is about $340.

  • Oh, well then, nevermind. Although, it's so complicated, I can't expect it to be much less.

  • Theremins are so amazing

  • his right hand defragments because of his awesomeness

  • Absolutely amazing. This is crazy good. Big props to the man behind video.

Does anyone realize how beautiful this version of "To Zanarkand" is?

  • awesome!

  • That is nothing short of amazing. Well done - you're one of the few people who manage to make a theremin sound like strings. :)

  • Awesome!

  • you should do somewhere over the rainbow

  • That would be neat.

  • I really don't know what the hell your doing but I want one.

  • Same here

  • Da kann ich nur sagen "Wahnsinn"

Meiner Meinung nach besser als das Original :D echt super, mach weiter so :D

  • yeah, I agree cokpletely. It is amazing
