  • If you can use VFW (Video for Windows) codecs, try x264vfw for the video stream. I use that all the time on my videos and have little trouble with YouTube.

  • camtasia studio 7 is a pretty good video editor

  • For what its worth.. I view most of your videos on an Android phone in HQ with no problems.

  • Sony Vegas is Great, But it's a 6-700 Dollar Program, if you want ALL the features & professional effects. I've always wondered if the LPG Smell Would Gum up the compressor, I find it leaves a sticky smelly gunk when used with certain Propane regulators.

  • haha! LPG used for A.C , i seen cars crash in korea that used it and the a.c condenser & grill became a BBQ GRILLE !

  • I am a Sony Vegas user, it does work well for me, hopefully, it will work well for you as well.

  • Holy crap, that poor little engine. Can't wait for the autopsy and laugh at the previous owner. :)

  • I'd offer to donate a core-2quad q9450 and gigabyte mobo but shipping it halfway around the world might be risky.

  • USE AVC video codec at 1280 x 720, and at 20,000,00bps. it works good for youtube!

  • I would check your local classifieds for a used Core2Duo system, even an early core2quad. Pentium D was a horrid thing when new, and a cheap used core based system will run circles around it, and run cooler. I know here in the states, a used 300USD desktop would probably get you something with probably 3X the performance.

  • @Shoteen95 I agree with u there but better just go for the Core 2 Quad & be done with it not much difference in price these days, I use a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU myself its awsome, Q8200 @ 2.33GHTZ x 4

  • dam youtube been messing with my vids for a wile.

  • Pentium D CPU's naturally run hot. So it's not uncommon for the fan to run at full when the cpu is under load. You may want to look at an after market cooler.

If you are installing Sony Vegas you will want to have around 4GB of RAM for it to run well. I see a few people are saying to get a better graphics card. It's not going to hep you with rendering, as most editing programs use the CPU. the bigest problem i see with that computer is a lack of RAM. 1 GB is not enough.

  • have a Zalman all copper cooler that may fit it. I was told that the GPU helps with video processing?, but if not I will focus on Ram more than anything

this little lenovo microtower/desktop sure does make a good heatpump tho :D

  • @Aussie50. The Zalman cooler will work if it's for socket LGA 775 CPU.

A graphics card will help a little with video play back. So if you have something laying around you may want to trow it in.

But rendering times and over all performance of the editing program will mostly be dependent on CPU speed and cores, and available RAM.

And yah Computer can throw off a hell of a lot of heat. I keep the heating vent in my Computer room closed all year. and it's always around 25c in there.

  • @BlueFoxTV yeh it can get up to 40* and over during the day, running PC's all day in that heat will do no good :(

the Zalman cooler won't fit the pentium D either :(. its made for P4 / Athlon only

  • @Aussie50. Man i wish i could have 40c heat. right now the hottest it get is 10c. Dam Canadian weather :(

Sucks to hear that the cooler wont fit. Heh. Knowing you. You could probably modify it to fit.

  • @Aussie50

I'm sure you could make a bracket for it to slap on that processor, You've got a whole shop at your disposal. Break out some zipties and get that cooler on there. I've used many heatsinks on many chips they were not 'designed' to fit on, you just gotta get the mounting even and firm.

  • @Aussie50 You are correct aussie, having a decent dedicated GPU will help video rendering. I would recommend a decent cooler as well concidering your high temps in the summer. When you do get decent temps/cooler try and overclock the pentium D if you can as that will help with rendering times.

  • @Aussie50 hey mate, if you can find yourself a half decent nvidia geforce card would help greatly. something like a nvidia gt250 would work great for video editing/processing.

  • @Aussie50 I have edited videos on a computer with 512 mb of ram and a 16 mb really old GPU, that was my editing computer for about a year. It's annoying, but you can do it.

  • @Aussie50

A GPU will help with rendering if you're rendering the video with your GPU, which in most cases you don't, by default it's CPU and RAM, just thought i'd throw that out there :P

  • Do you have steam Aussie 50?

  • @hamcheesesalami yeh that's where I buy all my games now

  • @Aussie50 That Sony Vegas is a Complicated POS i have it & it does my head in so i don't use it i just use windows live movie maker because its plain & simple to use & works well, Good luck with Vegas ED & I Recommend u use a Quad Core Pc for it as i do, it makes a big difference...

  • @Aussie50 I now have Terraria and Limbo on Steam.

  • Can't wait for the video, good luck with your upload problem.

  • 2of2

For uploading to youtube your best bet is to render it from vegas or whatever editing program you are using at as close to its original format as possible. for example if your camera records in MPG2 render it into MPG2. Then use a seperate compressor to compress it for uploading. Personally i use a free program called Handbreak to do this. Which converts to MP4 which i then upload to youtube. The MP4 files will be about 1/3rd of the size of the MPG2 files.

    Hope that helps

Ed, vegas in great. I use vegas for professional work and know alot about it. Feel free to message me if you cant find where stuff is id be happy to help out.

Also you are going to want ALOT of ram. 1GB DDR2 just aint going to cut it really. I have 8GB of ram in one of my laptops i use for editing everynow and then and i sometime hit that. For what you do. 2GB preferably 4GB would be fine.

  • Hey ed whats the specs on your machine there?

  • @insane569 Pentium D - 2.8Ghz with 1Gb DDR2 ram, on board GFX.

i will try and shoehorn a full size gfx card into it soon, just modify the case cover so I have room and more fans

  • @Aussie50 Not bad on the CPU. a video card wouldn't hurt and definatly add more RAM. Pretty reasonable.

  • @insane569 yeh IBM build these things like tanks, but not for video editing :(

  • Windows Live Movie Maker works great. I uploaded almost 30min edited without issue

  • I been having trouble with Youtube also I try veges too Youtube fail to connect to sever

  • Another recommendation you can try for compressing is VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.

I tried the fancy Adobe Premiere (Expensive software) but it fell short on the compression part, so I used it for editing and VirtualDub for compressing and that turned out to be the best way as VirtualDub doesn't have much editing features.

  • sorry to about your computer problems assie50 but you'll fix it in the end.

  • Yes, I use Sony Vegas Pro 11, good stuff :o)

  • blast out the computer heatsinks with air, vacuuming doesn't even get half of it. Processors throttle down when they overheat. You could also check to make sure the power supply is giving out proper voltages.

  • @Metalcastr yeh I never use vacs on PC's since they generate too much static, it can kill a PC.

the heatsink is good, but the PC is working overtime with no proper graphics card to handle the bulk of the rendering

  • @Aussie50 blowing air cleans more than

installing a graphics card will help too.

  • Sony Vegas Pro works for all my youtube uploads 100% of the time

  • Make a video with bigger file then use a converter to convert it to a different file format, it also makes the file smaller depending on the settings. I use Prism Video Converter.

  • Vegas is pretty great. I loved it when i used my old camera but ran into problems when i switched to a new camera. I had to find a balance between video quality and file size. I only have this problem because my camera uses AVCHD though.

  • You should get a new computer with windows 7.

  • @wtf0804 I'll build somthing up, I have a Athlon X2 with Win7 but thats my games/bedroom PC

  • Maybe you could try PowerDirector?

  • wow youtube loads vids really slow, well i hope this gets straightened out soon as we all enjoy your vids, good luck and cheers mate!
