what i dont just dont get as stated if they did erase past history.. then well loads of people come up with different storys we all know that however there are lots of different batman comics.. we all know that bruce waynes parents dyed but the different writers put differnent interprations.
so some of the other chracters storys will be slightly different aswell.
I have been reading DC comics since the early 90s, and I for one do not care if DC completely starts over with new origins for their heros...infact, I hope that they do. I remember what they did in the mid 80's and I thought it was absolutely great. I think that a reboot in needed at least every 25 to 50 years to sort of unmuddy the waters. Im actually excited about this new deal.
ARIDIAN SYAF of the new BAT-GIRL..did a page for my horror comic TERRORKLOWNS which is at indyplanet . com . it's the openning page. It's great to see him move up in his career.
That would be nice if it is another universe! Switching to Marvel is a bad thing, those money hungry fieds. I half way with this semi-reboot. I am with phyiscal comics all the way, I am just not a digital comic person. Have to have tangible comic in my hands. Great video!
really at least SOME titles are haveing some decent ends, like superman, sure could have been some more stuff after what happens right now, but it seems like hes haveing a good ending, cept like batman, he seems to be like not haveing something as good.
@piloneman Its better to read from the issue number then someone starting from issue number 900 or something it is better for upcoming artist like me to get a better chance also
@TeenTitansDcu1 I see. But this reboot idea from Didio and Jim Lee's the worst and stupidest yet. I cannot begin to tell you and cannot emphasize enough how upsetting this. I had trouble sleeping because of this. That's how bad it upsets me. DC comics and Superman's part of my world and I grew up loving the DC universe over the year and having this is like being ripped away and as a long-time fan, it's not fair.
The DCU will just erase the time line that killed Flash but its terrible Damian is Now Robin with Bruce wayne which in Batman return which stated They can never work together
They say reboot, but one look at the costume designs and very little has changed.
Since everyone is speculating and jumping to conclusions, let me give mine. Its gonna be more of the same. Batman will still be an overpowered badass. Superman will still be boy scout. WW will still not resemble a Greek Amazon. GL will still not be creating starships or huge mech armors and be content with laser beams and giant fists.
I still can't believe they made it so Young Justice (the thing that brought me in to DC comics) never happened. If this turns out to be on another universe I'll support them, if not, I think I'm just going to have to go over to Marvel.
DC already said all the Origins are staying the same. It's NOT a story re-boot, Dan and Geoff already said that it's more the storylines are going to be written for a more "today" audience.
Interesting. I stopped reading about 2 years after the Crisis on Infinite Earths when they chucked all of the history I'd loved & grown up with. I understood their reasoning but think they created as many new problems as what they solved. Then stuff got convoluted all over again because they have so many writers/editors that have their own ideas and end up contradicting each other. They need a few people to just watch over continuity to make sure that doesn't happen and look at stuff long-term.
i am utterly and completely pissed! but I totally saw a move like this coming because of all the previous Crises! like it has gotten so convoluted over the years that by now, i'm no longer sure which comic covers what version of a character, and the multiple people under the same guise, and the dozens of groupings that all include the same characters, like really, who is who? what just happened to the alien kid from krypton, the rich child seeking vengeance, and the mighty amazon princess?
I love Tim Drake too! I'm really worried about all the different side characters that I follow, especially because if they're making the older superheroes young again, then the newer characters I love (Tim, Kon, Bart, Cassandra, Jamie, Damian, Steph, etc. etc.) might not exist.
I was talking to my local Store and the owner said that DC did this same thing 25 years ago and he seemed to be fine with it, just about 5 or so years ago they did a little one, reboot... It's to clean up the multi-different Batmans, Supermans, etc.... My partner said that he remembers the last reboot, I've always been a Marvel person so I'm not an authority...
WHAT THE FUCK WILL HAPPEN TO BATMAN INC. IT JUST STARTED!!!!!!!!! if they change the entire universe im switching to Marvel again. @batmanarkhamasylum10 Yup all gone. Blackest night, Killing joke, Death of Superman, Knight Fall. All gone!!! Its like "One more day" only much worst.
their going to reboot every Comic every hero? no offense to u since im not a big comic reader but maybe their doing it because their stories are getting stale and need to start them over? i dont no
@fandude15 I would agree with that ! a lot of the current stories are getting stale.Hhow ever i don't think there going to wipe the slate completely clean !!!
@Reborn8303 well their not going to stop selling the old comics right their just not going to continue the story their going to say last issue then relaunch it from the beginning theyve done it before how else did they get different robins if they didnt restart he would have tim drake
@fandude15 From what i have read about this reboot its mostly going to be a younger prespective of all there hero's Im getting there not going to get rid of anyone or older books or story's just New storys with the Heroes being younger
@fandude15 How do you know for sure their not going to stop selling the old comics? Cuz Jim Lee and Dan Didio was planning to erasing so much stuff, including Superman issue #1 from 1938, which is not only real stupid but an outrage as well and earlier this morning, i had trouble going back to sleep because this was on my mind because that's how bad this reboot is bothering me.
@piloneman i have no clue at all about anything comic business related so idk but from a normal business stand point to stop selling the originals would b insane i agree with a reboot but not the stopping of people from reading the other issues i mean it gives a reader more diversity to b able to read comics from 1938 or 44 or 67 or 2002
i herd the reason they changed the universe and superman costume its because DC lost the rights to action comics #1 this or last month in a lawsuit from the family who created superman
Marvel tried this for a while back with the whole Onslaught thing. I don't know what prompted the Heroes Reborn story that brought everyone back into the Prime Universe, but I would not be surprised if people just were not responding to the concept so they abandoned it and eventually tried again with the Ultimate Universe.
BTW they are saying that it is NOT a reboot, but a new DCU. Whatever that means
Dang I accidentally commented this on the wrong vid, I'll post it here anyway, Bob Wayne a VP in sales for D.C. said this " (And by the way, let me just reiterate this point: this is the launch of the New DCU. It is not a “reboot.” I think you will soon discover why that is.) "
I'm sure you're tired of my rants by now. If they do this, I'm going to drop DC all together. I already dropped Wonder Woman (one of my favorite characters) because of they're f**King with her history. re the new costumes and the necklines, what? do they all go to the same tailor? LOL! If they make this a temporary run till someone goes back and fixes what Reverse Flash did, I'll just skip it.
I hope they dont ruin it and get rid of the secondary characters... but it wud b good to have sum fresh story lines... Wer can i see pictures of the new first issues??
"And that's what happens if it's got no Robin in it, people!" Yeah man, my comic guy told me about this yesterday, and I was like WHAT??!!! At first I thought it would be an Ultimate Universe kinda thing too, but he said that he heard it's gonna be all 52 titles going to number 1. This is making me think it's all a publicity stunt and the stories will just carry on but the issue numbers will all change to number 1 at once.
"DC's Senior VP Sales, Bob Wayne has issued a statement to retailers making it clear that while the DC range of comics will be relaunched, it is not a complete reboot!"
Hey, what do you think of Young Justice the cartoon? I actually like it, and is done really well (maybe not so much with the canon though)! Or have you seen the comic animes, such as X-Men or Iron Man? What do you think of them??
I thought they did that in Crisis on Infinite earths & Zero Hour. Hmm... another catharsis for the DC universe? They described it before as giving an "enema" to their existing continuity.
This is the BIGGEST news in comics since DISNEY bought Marvel. (People also thought that it was the END of the world.) According to Dan Didio, they are NOT erasing their history. The primary characters will be younger than they are right now, and a lot of the BAGGAGE will be removed to give them a FRESH start. DC knows where their bread is buttered. They won't alienate their readers. 【ツ】
They should do a series of stories showing the origins in each title, but starting again is crazy.
They're switching to digital comics? That's so sad! Woah. It seems to me the whole industry is built on collecting the comics. It might be inevitable in a sense, but it's too soon for that!
Ive been reading comics for about 15 years, all because of one book, Robin. When i was a little kid and saw that book with Robin and his 2 colored cape, I begged my mom for it. And even when I could only afford 1 book a month it was Robin. I was a lil upset when he was changed to Red Robin but I still love it cause its Tim. If they reboot him out, Im done with comics. I know they arent real people but its almost like losing a friend. lets hope for the best. MTGGLF
I agree with you Paul. I Hope DC doesn't forget about the current readers. Alot of people will be pissed if everything they've built up until now will get completely erased. They cannot erase everything. They know they'll lose alot of money. Let's say they gain ten thousand new readers, but they lose one million+ readers? That's a pretty big loss. Do the right thing DC, have the regular universe & have this rebooted universe be a new younger alternate reality, an ultimate universe if you will.
For all we know, it MAY just be a publicity stunt to boost sales. Reseting certain titles back to issue would could just mean that all previous issues will be regarded as a volume one set, and the issues that follow are a part of volume two. Marvel did something like this with a few of their titles (particularly Spider-Man) but they didn't erase any of the character's history. I can still sympathize with the people who are worried. That's a lot to absorb in such a short time.
One thing I've come to realize is that every time a new writer starts on a comic it's practically a reboot. They might continue where the previous writer left off but things that happened ten years ago might as well have never happened. That's pretty much why I stopped reading Marvel. The characters barely resembled the ones I grew up with anymore.
I just posted to raporfest about the idea that this might be an "Ultimates" DC, but I don't see that happening. If they're truly struggling that much, would they be able to maintain all these additional titles? This kind of effort has "backlash" written all over it... THANK YOU, DILDIO!!!! "Let's attract new readers by giving a fresh take on established characters, blahblahblah"... Answer me this, if these readers weren't drawn to the "old" characters, why care about "new" versions at all???
I've NEVER been into DC so this change could definitely make me give it a shot since I won't have to know all the back-story behind the characters. But IDK, I <3 MARVEL..
DC has a nasty habit of rebooting their unverse every decade or so, so I'm not 100 percent surprised over this. But not even Crisis destroyed everything, so the fact that DC will *probably* wipe clean everything just stinks. Although I hope that alot of minor characters would be redone better ( *prays to the comic God that Solomon Grundy gets turned into a central character*).
Now changing Supes' costume is borderline madness.
@Psythr666 Back in 1998, DC had Superman go through an metamorphosis where his powers became energy-based and he had to wear a containment suit to keep from falling apart. He could also turn his powers on and off like a switch, though this left him mortal and vulnerable. I didn't follow the storyline closely and I don't know what triggered the change but it was a very big deal at the time. A number of comic fans were up in arms. About two or three years later, they changed him back.
I can imagine. In fact, even though I'm not a Super fan, I'm upset over hearing about this. I just hope they don't decide to turn him into a human that gets his powers through a Thor-esque plot device. Or, worse, an Ironman ripoff.
@Psythr666 I could see them doing that in an alternate universe serial like Ultimate DC or something. Changing that much that quickly would tick off too many fans, and even though many people aren't familiar with the comics themselves, they have a basic understanding of who Superman is. Change that and it will make too many people recoil. Superman is as much a part of America's culture as the Statue of Liberty.
Omg!!! aren't you that little kid from the andy griffith show?!?!? :o!!!!

if youve been following DC avidly since the 1980s to now.. then you KNOW the MESS thats about to happen here.
Firstly ALL the creative teams here and even most of the redisigns will be gone by the following year.
( Example.. the ZERO hour relaunch amounted to nothing by 1996)
Then there will be the CONTINUITY mess trying to explain old stories with the NEW U.
(example... Crisis on Infinite earths created the same mess that lasted until 2005's sequel)

I'm freaking out!!!
I would love an Ultimate DC, but to redo the whole Universe....I would have to boycott them for that crap!!!

@Rikun1
