Yeah, they change completely the style of the "voice", i think this is a mistake, but Tarja is too much opera, so, in some songs, I prefer Anette, she have an angel voice, but it isnt the essence of the proposal of the band.

Personally I like Liv Kristine better she can sing good in any genre and has more of a vairety to her voice unlike tarja who could only sing classical. Anette is terrible, she has a different style, which is rock oriented, that being said everything written pre- darkpassion play was written for tarjas vocal stylings and range, which aren't anette's. she sounds good when singing songs from dark passion play, but not songs like this that were written for a different singing style, I mean listen at 4:03, its just painful listening to her try to sing that.

We all have to remember that Tarja Turunen is an opera singer(full lyric soprano) and Anette Olzon is not. So, comparing these two different singing styles, it is just impossible. @RigamonteDiego I know that story, thank you. Still a classical voice is not originally meant for metal, it was a rather new thing to do as they were one of only 3 bands to do such a thing back then. As you pointed out yourself, saying they were different.
But now they are different again, seeing as now there are so many bands who have copied the metal band with classical singer concept. Now a modern singer but without a metal rasp is the more unusual thing.
@RigamonteDiego It's actually the other way round.. a modern voice is originally more fit for metal than a classical one. That was the original concept of Nightwish with Tarja: Having a voice that did NOT fit, as a contrast. Well, they changed that concept, THEIR choice.
It's also the other way round with the fans: Tarja did attract more hysterical teen girls than Anette does now. Just look at the first row in End of an Era: Full of wannabe Tarja clones crying their little hearts out.
What did they think? That They will find a singress who can replace Tarja? It couldn't work! Fake Ever Dream! Tarja was an ocean soul, and now we have the end of all hope! And Tarja, I'm Forever Yours!
@ionutzbr94 No you're right. Anette probably sings better many songs of Century child and Once. Since the songs were written in a less "operitic" style, and Tarja -live- sang them not that way at all, since her technique was more oriented to classical.
If you listen Nemo with Anette, I would say as well that it's better with her voice.
@ionutzbr94 It depends on your taste. Tarja has a more mature, smoother voice with a greater range and more power. Annette has a raw, emotional voice, a lot sweeter and sometimes more accessible. Personally, I love them both, and think they each bring magic to Nightwish, which will always be my favorite band.
@pinkannon I agree with that too, I like that there are two singers and how anette does sing the old songs because I find it's just new life and new style to the old favorite nightwish songs. It's a great thing really to hear songs you love performed by the same band only with a different feel because of the singer. Every one else needs to realize that if they don't like the new versions of the songs with anette, than they can stick to the old versions with Tarja, and everybody wins
@ionutzbr94 I just have to say that I've listened to both gals live, and I haven't come across a live video where Anette is off key. Tarja on the other hand has sang off key more than a few times live. I do like BOTH Nightwish girls voice/songs, so don't start complaining to me haha.

She sings with her top voice while Annett Sings with her gut. The difference is that Tarja sounds ethereal, but some of the faster songs she would lose range in the middle. Annett cannot sustain the notes Tarja did, but she can belt louder.
Tarja was not replaceable, but Annett is a "ROCK" voice. Like Nancy Wilson from Heart, or other famous Women of Rock. But I don't not hear pop.
Anette isn't bad at all, she is good. more then good. but u can't compare here with Tarja, because they are different. Drums and a violine are both instruments, but comparing them would be a mess.

Anette is terrible, she has a different style, which is rock oriented, that being said everything written pre- darkpassion play was written for tarjas vocal stylings and range, which aren't anette's. she sounds good when singing songs from dark passion play, but not songs like this that were written for a different singing style, I mean listen at 4:03, its just painful listening to her try to sing that.

We all have to remember that Tarja Turunen is an opera singer(full lyric soprano) and Anette Olzon is not. So, comparing these two different singing styles, it is just impossible. Those who comparing, are not a truly fans of the band. I personally love their music, old and new. It has helped me to get forward in my life for the last 10 years. Thank You, Nightwish

i am NOT a nightwish fan, but without tarja they are a complete different band and the music does not match to the voice any more. but maybe they will find together again, like the guano apes.

I like it. To be honest I preferred Tarja's voice, but Anette has a good voice as well, and considering how much of a bitch Tarja turned out to be, I think they chose a good replacement. She seems much more level-headed

We all Should have had more faith in Tuomas when he recruitted Annette, Given a bit of time, she has matured into a real front woman for nightwish, something that they have never had, Much love to Tarja but she was as animated as a wooden box live, I feel bad for doubting Anette.

Tarja Turunen was fired from Nightwish after their final concert on the Once tour. The letter given to her that terminated her involvement with Nightwish stated that they had not talked for a year, that the band felt that she was being greedy, and that she did not have Nightwish as a priority anymore. Disagreements between the band and her husband also played a factor in her dismissal.

Im sorry for Anette's fan but i really think that nobody does Tarja like Tarja.. Its just that Tarja has the oprah voice and Anette sings like if she was talking. Im a Tarja fan and i've seen that Tarja is doing pretty good alone. if you wanna see Tarja singing without nightwish well here is a good video that i guess she made it because she's showing her feelings for nightwish. The video is called "I walk alone", in my opinion, its pretty deep.

@RigamonteDiego I know that story, thank you. Still a classical voice is not originally meant for metal, it was a rather new thing to do as they were one of only 3 bands to do such a thing back then. As you pointed out yourself, saying they were different.
But now they are different again, seeing as now there are so many bands who have copied the metal band with classical singer concept. Now a modern singer but without a metal rasp is the more unusual thing.

@RigamonteDiego It's actually the other way round.. a modern voice is originally more fit for metal than a classical one. That was the original concept of Nightwish with Tarja: Having a voice that did NOT fit, as a contrast. Well, they changed that concept, THEIR choice.
It's also the other way round with the fans: Tarja did attract more hysterical teen girls than Anette does now. Just look at the first row in End of an Era: Full of wannabe Tarja clones crying their little hearts out.

@ionutzbr94 No you're right. Anette probably sings better many songs of Century child and Once. Since the songs were written in a less "operitic" style, and Tarja -live- sang them not that way at all, since her technique was more oriented to classical.
If you listen Nemo with Anette, I would say as well that it's better with her voice.

@ionutzbr94 It depends on your taste. Tarja has a more mature, smoother voice with a greater range and more power. Annette has a raw, emotional voice, a lot sweeter and sometimes more accessible. Personally, I love them both, and think they each bring magic to Nightwish, which will always be my favorite band.

@pinkannon I agree with that too, I like that there are two singers and how anette does sing the old songs because I find it's just new life and new style to the old favorite nightwish songs. It's a great thing really to hear songs you love performed by the same band only with a different feel because of the singer. Every one else needs to realize that if they don't like the new versions of the songs with anette, than they can stick to the old versions with Tarja, and everybody wins

@ionutzbr94 I just have to say that I've listened to both gals live, and I haven't come across a live video where Anette is off key. Tarja on the other hand has sang off key more than a few times live. I do like BOTH Nightwish girls voice/songs, so don't start complaining to me haha.

@ionutzbr94 It's you. They are using Tarja's original vocals as a backing track for a reason. I love Anette, but I am really disappointed with her lack of range on this song. I get that she's not an opera singer, and that's fine, but damn, she can't even get CLOSE to the notes Tarja hits.

@teherlon Tarja is not an Opera Singer.
She trained in Chamber music.
She sings with her top voice while Annett Sings with her gut. The difference is that Tarja sounds ethereal, but some of the faster songs she would lose range in the middle. Annett cannot sustain the notes Tarja did, but she can belt louder.
Tarja was not replaceable, but Annett is a "ROCK" voice. Like Nancy Wilson from Heart, or other famous Women of Rock. But I don't not hear pop.

Anette isn't bad at all, she is good. more then good. but u can't compare here with Tarja, because they are different. Drums and a violine are both instruments, but comparing them would be a mess.
