  • categorizing certain bands into certain categories of certain music is certainly ignorant and certainly closed minded....just sayin......have a nice day...certainly

  • Alice in Chains is Metal

  • @W78516 No.

  • @W78516 None of Alice In Chains albums or songs have ever been categorized as a type of metal. Alice In Chains is simply grunge music. I don't want to start a fight with you. I'm just telling you what kind of music they are categorized as and what they're not categorized as.

  • @EddieGuerreroFanatic That's fine. To me they are Metal.

  • damn nature.. you scary

  • @korno96 fuge you

  • All of the great grunge bands had their own style. The ones that just play grunge normally suck or at least have one good song

  • stop trollin

  • who made this.. this is not an official alice vid... obviously

  • layne is vocals isnt he?

  • @macgw86 no layne past away in 2002

  • @macgw86 yes on all the albums prior to this one. He passed away in '02.

  • They are about to release a new album soon. Also Soundgarden and Black Sabbath also plan to also.

  • Question: I havent heard much of the new album yet because I havent really gotten around to it so those who have it will see this as a stupid question, does Duvall do ANY lead vocal or its it mostly Jerry on Lead and Him on Harmonies/backup? Not that I care much because Jerry has an iconic voice, just wanted to see if I could give Duvall proper judgement so I dont end up like some who bitch about him simply because he isnt Layne Staley.

  • @Blackdragon52k As far as Ive been able to tell, Only Jerry does lead vocals.

  • @Blackdragon52k I Think the only Song thats mostly Duvall is Last of My Kind.

  • @Blackdragon52k Yes Duvall has songs he sings lead on. The album is a good mix of both Jerry and Will harmonizing and they both take their lead on certain songs. Most of them are Jerry, but I think that's a good thing. It's like, man. Jerry, sean, and mike are all here, Jerry is singing.. and you can just feel the presence of Layne. Duvall helps to top it off to give it that new sounding edge. Private hell sounds so much like Layne it's scary.

  • These guys were going platinum when justin beiber was just a glint in the eye of the man who raped and knife fucked his mother....

  • Pure grunge music. Heard this song a ton if times, and its still growing on me

  • @MadVinylist Honestly, they're more of an alt-doom metal band than they are grunge. Grunge is rooted in late 80s indie rock and hardcore punk. AiC's roots lie mostly in Black Sabbath and other early doom bands, with some influence from the Seattle alternative scene.

If they sounded the exact same and came out of any city besides Seattle, they wouldn't have ever been considered grunge at all. They never sounded anything like Nirvana, Mudhoney or any of the bands from Sub-Pop.

  • @BroadwayRonMexico Bullshit. Grunge is a very hard to idenity type of music because there are so few bands that make up the genre. Alice was one of the pioneers of grunge. They fall into the same catagory as rock, alternative, grunge, metal, and so forth. As do so many other bands in the grunge scene do, especially NIRVANA. Just because they are not from the sub pop label does not mean they are not grunge. Grunge is defined by clothing styles, deep dark lyrics, heavy riffs. you don't have a clue

  • @PezoCon Except Alice in Chains sounds nothing like Nirvana, and rarely wore clothing associated with grunge. AiC favored denim and leather jackets over flannels

Their lyrics were also far closer to what you would find in doom metal than you would in grunge. Grunge lyrics tended to be more dadaist (old Melvins, Nirvana, etc) or political (Pearl Jam, Mudhoney). AiC's lyrics are usually about drugs, death and/or despair

  • @BroadwayRonMexico There are similar songs to Nirvana. You just haven't heard enough of their music. A lot of Alice's songs and lyrics are unique in their own light, NO ONE sounds exactly like them, and NO ONE sounds exaclty like Nirvana. And NO ONE sounds exactly like Pearl Jam. But, you can find similarities. Grunge was the dawn of a new yet small genre of music that blew up, which really is only from Washington. And my ass they didn't wear flannels and clothing like Nirvana

  • @PezoCon I've heard their entire catalogue. I can count on one hand the number of songs that sound remotely like Nirvana. They have FAR more in common musically with early doom metal bands (hell, half of Facelift sound more like 80s hard rock than grunge) than they do with the other Seattle bands. If their break out hit would have been "We Die Young" or "Sea of Sorrow" rather than "Man in the Box", they would never have been lumped in with grunge (at least not any more than Sanctuary was)

  • @BroadwayRonMexico And how the hell would you possibly know what type of clothing they prefered. lol. Did you ask them personally? Maybe you saw one poster and heard some songs they played on the radio, that's about your vocab of Alice in Chains. Man, you can't characterize shit here. You failed at proving Alice is not Grunge. Lets take a poll. Everyone, is Alice in Chains grunge or not? Thumbs up and yes/no. Prepare to eat an *e dick

  • @PezoCon Maybe because they wore leather or denim jackets in videos, concerts and photoshoots far more than they ever wore flannel or anything associated with "grunge" fashion.

  • this song is badass, and so is the video.

  • this song is so Alice in Chains, from riffs, Layne's style harmony and of course Jerry's unique guitar sound. i love this song and i'm just like you, AIC for life!

Didn't maynard sing for aic during their first reunion gigs in 2005 live on this tsunami benefit thing? maybe they still have a good connection and adam jones made the video?

anyway song damn good and album fuckin awesome

  • Gunge is not gay, and Alice in Chains is not Metal.

Sorry man, Alice in Chains have their own style.

  • Grunge is not gay. You are.

Alice in Chains have their own style.

  • @Lubu616 FUCK OFF! I'm fuckinn gay and I'm listening only to that kind of music! fuck madonna and other kind of shit!!

  • Comment removed

  • Hands down one of their best song, i literally melted in to my chair while listening to this song stoned

  • This is so fukin good...

  • It would be cooler that the solo were longer

  • And also Jerry is a mostly a great guitar player who sings.

  • I dont think Jerrys vocals drown Duvalls at all. If Duvall wanted to drown out Jerrys vocals he very well could because he does have stronger vocals. But don't forget they sing together. I think they do a good job of blending the vocals. Actually they are doing it better than when they first started.

  • @W78516 Yeah, I agree on all those points. I watched some AiC live performances from 2010. DuVall's voice is more prominent than Cantrell's because singing higher notes require you to sing louder. But I'll admit...some songs on the new album weren't mixed well enough to my tastes (like All Secrets Known and Take Her Out). You have to turn the volume up beyond what's normally desirable to hear all of DuVall's background vocals and some guitar notes. Other than that, I'm cool with it.

  • INTENT OBSOLESCENCE BUILT INTO THE SYSTEM...

  • Having been a fan of AIC since college when Dirt came out, this is the best AIC song since Jar of Flies IMO. I like Duvall's singing and style. Yes, Layne was an irreplaceable vocalist, not only in AIC but rock period, however, AIC is still obviously capable of making better music than most bands out there these days.

  • I absolutely love this album. It's just riff after riff with awesome vocals. Layne would be proud!

    This song is amazing.

  • AIC are back !

    This sound rocks !! THX

    Laney RIP

  • It's hard for me to find a song on the entire album that I don't like. It's NOT the same band as before, but they are DAMN good with the new band member. Much better than Chinese Democracy.

  • so crazy song

  • fucking awesome

  • Such a brilliant song. Dark yet inviting.

  • brilliant video by a truely fantastic band. long live alice in chains!!!

  • IF I HAD AN ACID BUBBLE, IT WOULD POP AT 2:43!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!

  • Alice in Chains made a way better comeback than any other rock band i know of. Its a pleasant surprise that this band didnt die like every other Seattle band form that era. This is the LAST true rock band.

The new singer is great. Layne was great but this band must live on for music's sake.

  • I absolutely fucking love this band. They make unique fucking brilliant heavy rock. They kicked unbelievable ass with Layne back in the day, and now have come back with a new singer William and have finished right where they left off. This is brilliant music! I can't believe they can still kick so much ass. Amazing album, amazing song! Alice In Chains is god!!!

  • "Intend obsolescence

    Built into the system" part......

    SPOILS THE SONG !!!

  • @AliceInVains how true!

  • @AliceInVains

I agree totally. I'm just not liking the change in tempo @ 2:43...I know a lot of others will disagree. Big fan of the album, and of the band since the beginning. Deep song here, but that riff has no place in this song IMO

  • @mike38261 We agree totally !!

i´m big fan, but that part spoils the best song on this album

  • @AliceInVains Reading this comment just spoiled the song for me.

  • the very first time i heard this I knew this was it. the way they sing the verses are just so heavy. and alotta of you haters have tried to kill them off, SURPRISSSSSSSSSSSSE IIIIIIIII REMAINNNNNNNNNNN.

  • @pepetigs You are dead right!!!

  • An amazing song on an amazing comeback album...I wish I had more hands so I could give this song more thumbs up!

  • i think i am on acid

  • probably duvals most vocally prominent song on the record, strong song but i still think Private Hell is the most complete song on this album. cant wait till the next one looks like they re having fun together

  • wow who would dislike this video all those who don't can rot in hell

  • Intent obsolescence built into the system

  • Mi favorite Song !!

  • i love the bass riff

  • 2 people need to amuse themselves in their very own private hells

  • thank you guys for continuing to do what you love, inspiring me to continue... myspace dot com/johnnytrippman

I wish i could play and write like Cantrell, my playing is so opposite, flashy, i would trade it for three chords played sick as Jerry can make them sound...

  • @AjaxFansnet -Well said.

  • esto es puro arte AIC, sin duda alguna

  • they play the shit out of this live, even though they play the shit out of every song

  • Best song on the album in my opinion

  • 1 person needs to check his brain

  • 1 person has a lesson to learn.

  • Que video tan raro ¡¡¡¡

    :S

  • come to MONTERREY MEXICO

  • this song deserved a real videoclip :(

  • Eu adoro alice in chains!!!

  • Cuek!!! ............me esperaba mas!

  • me gusta

  • I'm eating acid today

  • 2:43 favorite riff on the whole album. :)

  • this is awesome (and so is the interactive version) (and so is the album) but i hope for your next record william's vocals aren't so buried in the mix, he sounds amazing but is often drowned out by jerr

  • Genial !
