Hovercraft arriving at Dover

i like hovercrafts, but they are inefficient. first you have to level the whole "aircraft" and then move it (not to talk about the rubber on the bottom.....)

but: i love those things!!!

I had the pleasure of "flying" the Princess Anne from Dover to Calais in 1978. The ride was quite noisy, more like a ride on a noisy turboprop airliner than a boat. Unless calm, the motion was also rather abrupt as waves struck the vessel, producing a sychronized head toss action of the passengers. The fastest ever crossing of the English Channel by a commercial car-carrying hovercraft was 22 minutes, recorded by the Princess Anne SR-N4 Mk3 on September 14, 1995, for the 10:00 a.m. service.
