a guy named glyn davis used to run this bar until he was fired in spectacular circumstances. go to you-tube site "glyn davis coepptube" and read the comments to find out his story.
To anyone who has seen this could you explain the ending (spoiler) Pacino's girl puts on his hat and glasses and the camera pans to Pacino who looks at us through the mirror all the while NYPD has another murder? Sooo is Al now the suspect??
The leather/BDSM gay-bar disco scene depicted in "Cruising" is a bit theatrical, but that's pretty much how it was in the late 1970s and early 80s, only there was a much more overtl (and anonymous) sexual activity engaged in by the patrons. I understand William Friedkin needed to tone it down or it wouldn't pass the censor, but cutting 40 minutes from the film seems a bit like overkill. I'm sure the great American movie-going public could have taken a rawer, rougher version of "Cruising".
The New York of the late 70's/early 80's had a plethora of wild, ultra kinky leather bdsm gay bars as depicted in Cruising. It has a documentary atmosphere to it, i've heard rumors that the director had to delete more than 40 minutes of bar footage too "rough" for mainstream audiences to handle
Hey, calm down, I thought the film was hilarious too- where else could you see Pacino doing poppers while dancing like an enraged spastic... Nevertheless, that leather bar didn't smell of flowers...
its not deniro, its PACINO, oh and by the way the director tries to fool the audience by having monre than one killer, notice that the actor in this scene playing the killer is a different one to the actor who gets caught at the end of the movie?
oh, fuck off. this flick was fucking killer. especially the scene where deniro is dancing at the leather bar to mink deville!! fucking hilarious awesomeness overload!!!
I think "shit" is the operative word for this scene- that room certainly smelt of shit and at least one of those guys was up to his elbow(s) in the stuff, too (pun intended).....
this was a disturbing movie due to the murder aspect, but the acting was superb!! the movie also shows how hard it is to be different in this country. i feel that people who are gay should be left alone and be able to live their lives in peace-and i think it is wonderful when they adopt children. i also think gay marriages should be sanctioned in the whole country and world. i am 63 and over the years have had some of the most beautiful gay people(male an female)as friends. thanks for posting!

There are a lot of remixes of this scene on You Tube. More modern music and playing with the visuals.
