@nastik1987 I respect your opinion, but I believe she's just as beautiful when she goes for a conventionally pretty look at times and when she goes for a more artistic, unusual look. I think she definitely knows that there going people may not find her meat dress or her big hair and avant-garde makeup beautiful, and that's fine. To me, her being herself regardless of what form she takes is what I find most beautiful about her, and I think that can apply to the "good hair, bad hair" concept.
@snowbrown1000 I'm from Africa and while people get relaxers we don't go about dissing each other over hair types...and a lot of people, if they do get relaxers only get them after they finish high school
@nevashiva Probably because you can find out about that in the movie. Or you can research it on your own. The movie "Good Hair" goes pretty in depth about that.
Tyra's hair isn't natural. Natural means wearing the hair in its natural texture. In this video, Tyra is actually wearing her hair but it is still relaxed. Sooo, without the relaxer, Tyra's hair wouldn't look like that.
@nigeriansista she had already explained that she said for her to wear her natural texture she would have to grow out the relaxer, and that takes years. even so, it's still her real hair no matter how you put it
@nigeriansista she had already explained that she said for her to wear her natural texture she would have to grow out the relaxer, and that takes years. even so, it's still her real hair no matter how you put it
@Fay101 hun, that`s not sick..so what if you`re sleeping with your clips?it`s ok.. I cant really understand you, cause I`m white, but fuck my skin color.. I dont have the very same issue, but sometimes I hate my own hair too..And I am so,so sorry cause you`re feeling sad.. Every woman has at least one thing that she hates on her body, that`s normal..But there is no such a thing as a natural beauty.. I hope that you`re not feeling sad..
@Fay101 you`re more than welcome..And I totally agree with you..All those girls in the show business that we look up to got flaws just like every other normal girl..and when we say-Ahh,why dont I look like that? -its because we`re not made of photoshop, and we aint got no makeup artists around us..Even Tyra is wearing a fake hair,so what? She`s a great model, and I`m sure that you`re a great girl. And gurlie,we`re all using beauty tricks,so it`s ok to wear clips.. :)
chris is trying to make a point about how the indian people who are being exploited are being so ripped off and then she just cuts him off about some romance shit lol !!! chris rock youre the fucking man !!!
@queenworldskate I dont think his point was only about being "ripped off" but moreso the religious implication. These Indian women are giving their hair as a sacrifice to "gods" and other women are putting that same hair on their heads. And yes Tyra totally ignores this message...
@Jazzymlh oh yes yes i agree,in my context of 'ripped off' i mean the whole lot. ripped off to me does not just refer to money, also refers to being taken advantage of.quiet disgusting that information,i thought that would be more of a topic tyra should cover =)
I saw GOOD Hiar, when the part about perming your hair can break off when your older, that's because when your older your hair loses it;s strength and begain's to come out, that's why you see a lot of bolder older black women.
i know a girl at my school, she dyed her hair so much that it broke off. She stopped dying it and wears it natural now, every now in then she put her clip in weave in.
the same chemical that they use in deliptory creams. so when women or men use cream to remove hair, its the same chemical slightly weaker to straighten the hair.
This has to be one of the funniest Tyra episodes I've seen. Chris Rock is hilarious! I was laughing the whole time. By the way, I think Tyras hair looks beautiful the way it is in this episode.
No, not all weave is Indian Hair, most are plastic, therefore synthetic, few people can afford human hair, and I think someone would rather not wear someone elses hair. I know I may sound hypocritical, I wear half wigs, which is plastic and am freaked out by the idea of wearing a human hair wig.
I am black and before I put relaxer in my hair it was long and thick and puffy (my father is mixed so part of my hair was straight in its natural state), after relaxer it became thin so now am I dont use relaxer that often I just wear a wig and my hair is past my shoulder now and much thicker almost there
the same thing happened to me. I had VERY thick hair and the relaxer thinned it out. Right when my hair first firt began to fall out something tragic happened to me that helped me realize that hair is not so important and it gave me the courage to go natural early so I kept most of my hair. It's half way down my back now when straightened, pat my shoulders when curly (wet).
@musepigg I am so happy to say, that this Sambo, Chris Rock, movie flop, like all of his movies, at the box office! LoL! Hey Chris baaaaby!
You toped your own flop record!! With this one! Darling HaHaHaHa! Good Hair?! Only a Sambo Moron, would think of some silly crampo! Like this bullshit! Hey Chris!
It is funny how tyra looked at the girl with weave, lol. Tyra said it is not like she does not want women to wear weave. she just wants us to embrace our hair. also take care of your real hair. in the other video the white girl said her white friends told her you are a white girl and don't need extensions. to be honest women regardless of their race don't need tracks if they just eat right and take care of their hair. That includes black women as well.
you know that not only black people get puffy and big hair.... this is dumb and racist! any race get puffy and big hair... just because you see white celebrities with "nice" straight soft hair doesnt mean all white people have that too... plus its not only white celebrities but black or any other celebrity that makes their hair like that, so its a definat effect coming from them!
yeh thats true but black peoples hair is much more harder to handle trust me you'd have to see how long they have to spend on their hair to believe it. i agree you dont just have to be black to have kinky hair but tyra said that already. So whats dumb and racist about it?!
i know that for black people, the hair is far more thicker and harder to handle, but its not that, its just that she keeps referring back to white people, where she should refer to the media. they were discussing it on the View and Whoopi Goldberg was referring the influence, for "good" hair from what we see on the magazines and tv, which i think its a far much more correct statement. it's just i feel like tyra being racist because of how she keeps going back to white people
@korny6665 ... yeah she is focusing too much on the black people, I think the documentary of Chris Rock will send a message not only to the black community but to every woman out there. I mean, what woman hasn't done something to their hair or put chemicals in it?.. we always want to change either the shape of the colour of it, we all women tend not to be happy with our real hair.
@korny6665 ... I know lol I'm from Spain and me and all my cousins have puffy curly hair.. well me after putting so much crap in it's straight now, and I regret!!.. I miss my puff hair now ;(.
Black women need to learn how to take care of their natural hair. When weave is being pulled out, a lot of the hair has to be cut of because it is tangled, and cannot be removed. This is sad. maybe that is why some black woment's hair cannot grow. Alot of it has to do with genes too tho.I wish black women would stop wearing all these weaves and getting perms, and take better care of their hair. This is not who we really are people. Be yourself, and stop trying to look white or indian.
if ur white then u have not got a clue how it feels. Black women have got teased in school, girls etc. because they think nappy hair is yucky. and i was one of those people. its horrible. Thatswhy when i was 10 my mum put a relaxer in. i had no clue what i was getting myself into. now im going natural. I agree with everything u have said here dont worry... Im just saying u cant chat if u dont know the situation and self esteem issues we have
Yes I am a black woman. And I had very kinky hair as well. My mother relaxed my hair when I was eight. So I know about those knots and the pain.I think as blacks, we must educate our little girls(kids), that our hair is still beautiful, even tho it feels and looks different from the girl's own next door.If we all stood up for this, you will see a great difference in the self esteem. We are all programed to believe that nappy/kinky hair is bad, and it is not.
Good hair is well kept and taken care of. That is good hair. Bad hair is when it is not combed and kept up. Everyone needs to understand that there are just different types of hair quality out there. Why do we make these things into prejudices? this is just ridiculous. We have beautiful hair.and i believe that we as black people need to show it off, and leave the weaves, sow ins, and all that stuff behind.Black hair is managable. just get the right products and you will see. I did it.
Yeah i agree. I actually get sad.... when people say mean things about afro hair. makes me wanna cry. I used to get teased so badly i would cry for ages. even the black girl was joining in. the one with relaxed hair.
Its just... its terrible. I look up to people like india.arie and alicia keys. good on them for wearing natural hair.
I look up to them too, they are very strong sisters. I believe it takes a strong black woman to do this. Strong in the sense of self-esteem-to me. People of the same race make fun of each other when their hair is exactly the same way without relaxer, that just doesn't make sense. I guess they are laughing at themselves. It makes me sad too.I am glad the Chris Rock did this movie to really open our eyes to see what is really going on. Good luck with going natural though. I think you will love it.
Yeah same. Yeah i know, its not just "manageablity.." its self esteem issues which i completly understand. But now i want 2 be different. Get my afro back for good.
Yeah i know... black people should know better and just stay quiet or stick up for there black sisters.
Yeah its horrible. im actually at school and when we do science tests we use sodium hydroxide. and we have to be careful with it since its a irritant. But if its so bad for our skin whats the difference between skin and hair? its a chemical and is damaging either way.
yes i know. Im wearing plaits right now and this bengali girl was like why dont u change ur hair? i just shrugged my shoulders. and then she said to me to straighten it or get it like my friends hair. which is an afro but softer
i followed the link and the website forces you to take a survey before you can even play a vid....a complete waste of time....i shouldn't have to do a survey to watch a video......
I'm from Chennai, India.
